To be fair, this was surely shattered already. At least in the young that have travelled and lived elsewhere.

Our GoFundMe care system is clearly not capable of handling this.

(not a political statement, just commenting on how a lot of people nowadays try to raise money for medical costs...)

This is mobile technology (among other methods like card payments and survelliance cameras) South Korea used to monitor and ensure the public were only going out when only necessary, and to track people with the virus, and discovering people who were in contact with them and it has been extremely effective.

I ask this also completely aware that "two weeks" may not be enough, and some places/sectors will be down much longer, but that's not what the question is about.

More about when you thought was your local start date?

I live in Greece. The government shut down all schools on March 10, two weeks and a day ago. We did that when we had 89 confirmed cases. The next day they banned all gatherings of more than 1000 people. More stringent measures eventually rolled in and soon theaters, bars and the like were also shut down (I don't quite remember the dates). Gatherings of more than 10 people are banned as well now. In Sunday, they announced that a curfew will be put into effect as of next morning and that we need to fill out a form (or send an SMS) that notifies the authorities about why we're going out (reasons such as work, shopping for necessities like food, medical emergencies etc). So, we are basically in lockdown ever since yesterday. The number of total cases right now, by the way, is 794.

Personally, I've been staying at home since March 11. I feel that it would be good if we had shut down a few days earlier than we did and I definitely have very real concerns about our health care system since the economic crisis and the memorandum agreements we had forced upon us made sure to destroy our public healthcare. The numbers don't look bad so far but it's a fact that we are under-testing. Overall, I'm just hoping for the best.

I think that's very smart in a place like Greece with so many small islands where one case could rapidly infect a whole island and leave them literally stranded. Also, it is so far spread out geographically that you really have to isolate the clusters, especially if they initially came from Italy, or let's say Turkey via Erdogan's migrant threats. Nice to see a few countries doing it right.

Logical conclusion. Curious to see how many of the sick are the same people who thought this was a “hoax flu” and didn’t take precautions.

my lab did the exact same thing. Whenever I saw him eating a bunch of grass I knew he was trying to make himself throw up.

That's not completely fair. It's not just people who didn't take precautions..

Many people are infected because of their environment, not to any fault of their own. I don't see how those people dying makes the species any stronger. A brave nurse somewhere is dying right now for doing her job.

Don't let media drive us into figuring out who to blame. Who gets a better "grade" for social distancing, based on your gd phone.

People sound a little too resigned to a lot of people dying right now as if they had some duty to do so for the betterment of the species in the future.

I don't agree that not trying to save these lives is for the betterment of all. This talk makes it sound like the argument is "they had it coming". Bull.

We have been able to identify at least 3 clusters and their origins so far. The first cases in Greece came from Italy. Patient #1 was thought to have contracted Covid-19 while she was attending Fashion Week in Milan. That was the first cluster. The second cluster came from Israel. A travel group was visiting Jerusalem on a pilgrimage and that's where they contracted the virus. They didn't show any symptoms while in Israel and only started showing symptoms a couple of days after they returned.

The two clusters were quite different in nature. The first cluster was relatively localized. Patient #1 was from Thessaloniki and the initial cases could all be traced back to her. It mostly remained localized in the city of Thessaloniki, the second biggest city in Greece, so it was a bit easier to track down. The second cluster, though? The people who were in that travel group were from all over the country. So, it was much harder to track down and combat. Western Greece was hit particularly hard by this. Another problem with the second cluster is that a significant portion of the people in that travel group were older. That has, unfortunately, resulted in deaths. The first confirmed death in Greece was in that travel group and he was among the first to show symptoms.

Now, there is also a third cluster that is concentrated in the city of Kastoria. Kastoria is famous in Greece for its fur clothing industry. One of the city's residents had participated in a fur trading conference in Italy and that's where he contracted the virus. He went asymptomatic for a while and, unfortunately, this cluster has spread as well and the city of Kastoria (along with some neighboring villages) has been hit very hard. Doctors from Kastoria are claiming that the city is two weeks ahead of the rest of the country and are requesting immediate help.

Obviously, a lot of community spreading has been happening for a while and a significant portion of the current cases can't be linked to any of the three clusters or properly be identified. That's an issue. We aren't testing a lot. I didn't listen to what they said today but as of March 23 we had only contacted about 6k tests. That number is very, very low. As for the death toll, it was 20 people as of March 24.

One of the reasons why the curfew was imposed in the first place was that some people were trying to leave Athens and other big cities and go to the countryside where they owned properties (family homes in villages or islands). That would obviously carry the risk of bringing the virus to those small communities which could have devastating consequences for these places. So, I'm glad that this curfew was imposed even if I believe that it should have been imposed earlier. Better late than never.

So, all in all, I don't think that we are doing it right. We have done a lot of mistakes so far. We should have acted faster, we should have been testing more and we should absolutely hire many more doctors (of course, the current ruling party is the same one that dismantled our health care system 7-8 years ago so that's probably not going to happen) AND make sure that these doctors have the necessary medical supplies to do their jobs. All in all, I'd say that we've done a subpar job at handling this pandemic. I'm just glad that our handling hasn't been disastrous.

Stay at home order issued for my county starting tomorrow until April 3rd. We're still allowed to go to the park though, so I'll probably be doing that tomorrow. Desperately need to get out of the house lol.

Ah, good thing you mentioned it. Parks were among the last public places to lock down in Greece. You are still allowed to go out and run/job but you aren't allowed to go in parks.
