Though he is from Miami, he got my new found respect.
And it is always a shock to me to see so many homeless people all around in Canada and USA during the trip last year.

Sorry to hear that. One day at a time. You both are gonna get your unemployment on steroids and other government assistance, and no one is getting evicted.
Be safe.

They're finding traces of new coronavirus on surfaces in cruise ship cabins for as many as 17 days after passengers have left. It's obvious that this virus is nearly impossible to contain, the only chance is social distancing/quarantine. The U.K. found this out the hard way. There's no easy solution here, the economy is going to take a **** kicking but you have to get this virus under control. I'm beginning to think that the only thing that can save the situation is for the science community to find a vaccine. Otherwise, you have a health or an economic catastrophe, either way there's going to be a lot of pain.
Science needs to come to the rescue here.

I don't think Trump is mentally ill. I think this is more-or-less the bottom line.
The cost of shutting down the economy for longer than a month or two is substantially more than the cost of letting the hospitals and the healthcare system getting overwhelmed and overrun. The reason why the stock market is precipitously dropping every day and the Fed is going all-in is because things are much, much worse than they are revealing to us. They must have crunched the numbers, and the states cannot afford the future unemployment payments, the pension funds cannot afford the market to crash 70-90%, the federal government cannot afford to bet more than than a $2T stimulus (10% of the economy).
In every war, there are casualties. I believe that Trump has decided to sacrifice the elderly and the healthcare workers in this war. He royally f*cked up containment and mitigation measures are failing; they aren't even being followed by the American people and many also don't want to follow them. A lot of the things they do in Asia cannot be done here because people care a lot more about freedom to do whatever they want without consequences than the good of the collective. My mom could very well die from this, but this is the country we live in, for better or for worse.
As a medical student who is one year away from being a doctor, a fiancé and sister who are bother currently doctors, if you sacrifice the healthcare workers you are truly f*ckd. Those are probably the one population of people you and afford to lose any of

What an atrocious bill the suits just passed. They should all be beaten physically in front of the whole country on national television. Every republican, democrat, libertarian, independent, whatever.

The Senate Democrats sold us out. The is a "transformative" slushfund for large corporations. Disgusting.
Anyone who think that the establishment democrats are going to come to the rescue of small businesses and the working families are sadly mistaken.

Democrats Are Handing Donald Trump The Keys To The Country
The Senate coronavirus bill is shocking.
By Zach Carter
The emergency coronavirus legislation that the Senate agreed to on Tuesday can only be described as an outrage. It is not an economic rescue package, but a sentence of unprecedented economic inequality and corporate control over our politics that will resonate for a generation.
It represents a transfer of wealth and power to the super rich from the rest of us, with the support of both political parties ― a damning statement about the condition of American democracy.

I just realized that the local liquor store charged me double the price for each of the two bottles of wine I bought last Friday.

My brother, who I live with (I’m 32 he’s 34) was tested positive for COVID-19 a couple days ago (NJ). He has had respiratory and other medical issues before. Grateful that it was discovered now and not in two weeks when I’m sure hospitals will be flooded.
I haven’t showed a single symptom yet, but I’m worried and suspect I might have it as well. Can only hope and pray. I know the mortality numbers are pretty low for people our age, but then I’m hearing about people in London getting discharged and then getting it again. **** is scary.

Absolutely. This isn't even debatable. It's somewhat amusing how Republican politicians often come across as so inhumane - at least when there have been outrageous quotes with indecent content, it's been safe to assume for two decades now which direction they were coming from. I know this is a very controversial statement, but then again, it really isn't.
What I find most ironic in that regard though is that Trump's biggest goal - outside of ruining any of the country's foreign relationships by building walls, wildly accusing and slandering foreign politicians or even stealing foreign countries' medications - has from the start always been to deteriorate and abandon a long due health care system in Obamacare that had just been established and trending towards eliminating social disadvantages. Now here's what Americans get if their politicians would rather cut those costs than invest to provide unlimited and unprohibited access to at least decent quality health care.
But hey, here's a thousand dollars. Go make America great again.

Re: OT: The official Coronavirus “Oh sh*t!” thread
Trump in a nutshell:
1) Isolate America in the international community, deteriorate an already chronically neglected health care system.
2) Awake to the reality that socially responsible health care is crucial to the status as a first world nation and that you need international interaction to prevent all types of threats (like corona, but others too of course). This is cynical.
3) Provide people with cash that isn't even sufficient to pay a single rent or treatment.
I'm not saying Obamacare would have solved the crisis. Obviously not. But America obviously needed to develop in that direction and who knows how much better health care would be by now had it not been abandoned. Trump could have renamed it out of smug self-satisfaction, but he chose to undermine the idea categorically and save costs instead.

I'm really sorry to hear that man. Hope you have a cushion to tide you over until this blows over.
Thanks, I thankfully do have a cushion as we had been diligently budgeting and saving money for the past several years hoping to buy a house so if it comes down to it I can dig into my savings to get by. Also we have a 5 month old baby, so perfect timing for all this. I’m paranoid we are going to bring him home the virus.
