I also wonder if the housing market would tank in April/May. Hard to buy houses when 10%-20%+ unemployment is going on. I cringe saying it, but there might be some investment opportunities there if you are sitting on cash.

Also, I did not lock in a 2.875% 15-yr rate 3 weeks ago and now it's up .375 despite the fed dropping

Cruise lines, including Disney, are not registered in the US. They don't pay US taxes, minimum wage or have to follow US health or safety regulations. A very small percentage of their employees are US citizens. If they want bailout money let them get it from the countries where they are registered. They certainly aren't essential.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Yeah absolutely. This seems like such a clear cut case I can't believe it's even debatable. You can't do something to avoid the things you don't like in the US then expect US taxpayers to lend a hand.

I think these articles are worth a read.

https://www.financialsamurai.com/how-does-real-estate-get-impacted-by-a-decline-in-stock-prices/

https://www.bankrate.com/mortgages/programs-to-freeze-foreclosures-evictions-from-coronavirus-disruptions/

If there is an impact, it may take months for things to settle, if we're in the gutter still.

Sysco and US Foods look like great deals right now for long term.

Decided to lock in my profits on Square after the 20+% jump today. My gut feeling is that this high from the bailout stimulus won't last very long and most of these stocks will dip again but we'll see. Either way, can't complain about a 20-25% profit after only owning it for a week.

Yeah, not sure why they were so low.

Yeah, I want to eventually get in on Square again as more of a long hold but I think it and most stocks probably has at least one more major dip in it before things start to calm down again.

You get taxes differently as well depending on how long you hold onto a stock... Holding for a year can be advantageous.

Agreed. Sysco gives dividends as well.

Was hoping the employment claims would make the market dip again. I had a few names I wanted to buy, but missed out on the previous dip.

Sysco, Lululemon, Lam Research, IDEXX, Ulta, Realty Income

The market isn't reacting correctly and it's hilarious watching the guys on r/wallstreetbets panic over their SPY puts

Yea, I don't get the positive reaction today. I feel the market (and America in general) has been in denial this week. Things feel more calm.

I don't get it at all. :-?

I'm not sure what the market is reacting to myself. I thought it knew stimulus was coming. Maybe it's Trump wanting to open businesses after Easter? That doesn't seem guaranteed, and could end up being bad for the economy if it exacerbates the # of cases by a lot.

By end of next week we could have all time market highs or a new bottom on this dip?

The market is not a rational force.

We're not even at the worst of this yet.

What do you guys think of the speculation that there will be a higher demand for single family housing as people shy away from high rise downtown condos and apartments?

Seems too early to say. I don't think many people in their 20's will consider that. I think I'm just as separated from people living in an apartment as I would be in a house.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

Last few minutes of the trading day really looks like a short squeeze. Maybe the entire day really. I suspect a down day tomorrow, but I guess who knows, just throwing darts.

I got to think there are a ton of mixed theories. Less people buying in general will hurt the housing market across the board, people with condos downtown at ~$300k+ are just gonna buy big houses in the suburbs, what area will get this growth?

Also, we have no idea how this will hit smaller communities. I could see horror stories of small towns overwhelming their own hospitals without the size to get the attention of national guard temporary hospitals getting built.

tbh, when I first read Mags' post, I initially thought the idea was to move out from an expensive downtown condo/apartment to a cheaper single family house outside cities.
