science for those interested - basically it's a synopsis of a recent genomic study providing evidence that this C-19 strain was NOT born out of a lab and that the strain is of natural origin. [not sure how many people actually thought it was lab engineered, but I'm sure there were some]

Yeah but don't tell that to the medical professionals having to throw away old gowns in exchange for wearing garbage bags as replacements or return to less convenient methods of viral containment by washing and reusing masks.
The supplies are exhausted apparently as the world hoarded them our government acted on the premise we wouldn't need them when they had access and now that we do need them they keep telling everyone we have it under control they are being made meanwhile we don't have them it's not under control...but in the same breath control is probably not realistic with this anymore anyway so it is worthless to expect it to matter.

I am hearing at least locally that grocery stores are getting stocked again and much of the panic buying seems to be over.

That isn't proof imo.
It may very well have not been concocted in Wuhan, but it's very reasonable to think once discovered was intentional bioterrorism spreading in one of the most populated world product supply bases that would certainly not only infect the people there but all the boxes and goods that left there.
We will never know and it doesn't matter now. But it sure would be nice to have a target to reak payback towards besides some fantasy bat crap theory

This is an interesting chart. Michigan has the 5th most confirmed cases despite being the 5th worst in terms of testing. Michigan also lagged behind Ohio and Illinois when it came to limiting the amount of people in gatherings and key closures.

I don't know how safe this is but local hospitals here are recommending extended re-use of N95 masks. They are recommending holding the masks over boiling water for ten minutes for sterilization.

That's a pretty high positive rate still right? I've heard some health experts mention some rough thresholds that mean you are "testing enough" and IIRC it was lower than that (although the fact that i's going down is a good sign).

I am posting these links as a general discussion of the Defense Production Act and why I feel strongly we need to use it, not to discuss any particular people in our federal government. I don't understand why we haven't moved on this already, it's one of the singularly most powerful and proactive actions our government can take! It's an act that financially supports and enables businesses to produce equipment and supplies desperately needed by the American population.

Relying on individual companies to figure it out themselves, try to make financial projections for large capital investments needed to jumpstart new production equipment, forecast orders, etc. all individually makes absolutely zero sense right now, when the government can help significantly streamline the process. Zero sense.

The U.S. government is able to make contracts with industry under the law prioritizing the production of goods in scarce supply. It can also provide loan guarantees or lend money directly to targeted industries, and it can shield them from anti-trust actions resulting from firms cooperating and planning with one another. And if those incentives prove insufficient, administration officials can also use what's called an "allocation authority" — namely, telling firms that the government has the right to purchase their products above anyone else.

"You could use the prospect of these things to get them to agree to what you want to do — it's a sword of Damocles authority, if you will," says Bialos. "Fundamentally, this is a set of tools the administration can use to negotiate with companies in an industry. So if you're short of some product — ventilators, face masks, whatever — you call in the company, survey their capabilities quickly, understand what they can and can't do, and then you start dealing."
