On one hand I agree but on the other hand they went so over the top with their quarantine efforts that it's hard to say. Especially since Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea are so close to the hot zone yet have done a crazy job mitigating the spread without those same measures China took.

They're also draconian. In the first couple of iterations of this thread, there were videos of the brutal checkpoints the police and military set up around Wuhan province and of the technology they used to identify and isolate (sometimes dragged away from families) infected people.

I don't trust the Chinese government one bit, but even for their own selfish reasons, I trust China to have been brutally efficient in limiting the damage to Wuhan in ways other countries couldn't stomach for their provinces/states/territories.

It's still a free-for-all in many US States, and I think *that* number is dramatically under-reported too (though out of incompetence).

If I recall the H1N1 virus in the US caused about 15,000 fatalities, though many think it was much higher. I may be too optimistic but I'm hoping we don't surpass that with COVID-19. Though any amount of fatalities are horrible.

Yeah if we tried that before we hit this point there would have been too many politics involved. Every travel restriction or stop and check would have been accused of some sort of racist, sexist etc... Act.

Over there you can ban winnie the pooh or south park if you dont like it. They can just take authority over your rights and get things in check a little quicker and organized.

How many people do you think caught the virus and have recovered that are not a (confirmed case) ? Or anyone else that wants to guess an estimate at this? My estimate would be 200,000.

In my opinion its somewhere around that or more. I treat it as everyone has it at this point lol

I personally think ive had it back in Jan when i felt like i was getting pneumonia for like 2 weeks. Would be nice if there was a way to know or access to a way

I actually kinda want the whole 327 million USA population would catch the virus before the USA reaches summer and everyone that survives the virus is now immune from it and wouldn't have to worry about catching the virus again this year and next year.

I think they are supposed to have antibodies test available and ready at some point. That would be the thing to know or access to find out for the one's that did catch the virus and have recovered.

I think I might have caught the virus several weeks ago and may have recovered it. I had a fever 2 wednesday's so that was either the coronavirus or the cold/flu.

I don't like the layout/design of that website. Plus their recovered number of the USA of 700 was incorrect when bing.com/covid last night was showing 1864 have recovered in the USA. I like the layout/design a lot better at bing.com/covid.

It seems the numbers stop updating at 9pm eastern time so I try not to update my numbers from last night until it reaches 9pm eastern time.

I hope I'm not right but it's very unlikely that stops around 10-20 thousands. Italy has like 80 000 registered cases and they're already around 8000 deaths. Every day another 600-900 people die. The US already has 100k infected people, worse health system and they didn't even lock the full country down yet.

This is the right time for people to realize that if they vote for an incompetent idiot to be their president he(/she) will handle emergencies like an incompetent idiot.

That's not specifically against Trump, there are a lots of other prime ministers and presidents all around the world who are struggling to understand basic math, basic economics or things that average university students get. In the unfortunate - but quite regular - case when they happen to care only about themselves and their power, you can hear things like a dangerous virus is a hoax or wildfires are leftist propaganda.

Been noticing this growing trend of people reflexively parroting "China is lying about their numbers", which while probably true, seems like missing the boat by an hour and then complaining it left 1 minute early.

Whether or not China's numbers are accurate (likely not as they aren't even testing anymore), we can safely say that large swathes of the world have passed the point where that even matters. This is still a really big deal in many countries, and it hasn't been handled particularly well in many countries.

Our hospitals are already being pushed to the edge, it's going to be much worse, and probably in a much shorter period of time too.

- China is now sending medicaments, ventilators and experts to many European countries to help
- China did hide some information at the beginning of this, but that didn't last long and they told the world about what was happening more than two months ago and other countries, except Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore etc didn't care
- Russia closed the whole border with China two months ago and organized special gates at the airports for people flying in from China, where their temperature was checked and European and American leaders laughed at that, saying that Russia is going to cripple its economy by doing that
- Chinese citizens obeyed the rules during the worst period of the epidemic and Chinese officials didn't act like clowns, encouraging people to go out, like American and European politicians did
