I think Ja for ROY should be fairly obvious even though Zion has had a fantastic run since he has come back from injury and certainly has a case. Zion is still the clear #1 guy in this rookie class but Ja has been able to do more this season due purely to more opportunity/availability.

Considering the regular season is over or at minimum significantly shortened, Zion isn't going to have played enough games to be in this race.

Amazed that this poll is even as close as it is. You just can't give the award to a guy that played 19 games, no matter how great he's been. Ja will rightfully be a unanimous choice.

I think it would be close even if they played a similar amount of games.
Zion was amazingly consistent, had a high work ethic and great motor, Morant has a great all-round game, points, assists, defense, effort, and I think there is a chance that he be the best player in the league one day. I think Morant will make his team better, where as Zion could be a Blake Griffen.

If I had to choose one assuming a healthy career I don't know who I'd prefer, but when including risk I would go Morant.

I voted Morant, but disappointed there wasn't a Ben Simmons option.

I love Ja but if Zion plays a full season, he would be the unanimous pick as ROY.

If Zion would of snuck the Pelicans into the playoffs, I'd give it to him, but obviously that's not going to happen due to COVID-19, so going by the games playerd, obviously Zion played to little to qualify, and Ja had a great season and had his team in playoff contention when many thought they would be around the bottom of the West.

Can you elaborate a bit more what you are doing here? I am assuming it is points per 75 possessions and the amount under/over the league average TS% for their position, but I have no idea tbh.

Availability is the best ability. Ja deserves the award for showing up consistently and having an amazing impact on the winning culture that the Grizzles have suddenly attained. I only say suddenly because I believe this was supposed to be a rebuilding year and Ja said no we are making playoffs. It is not his fault there was little competition.

With that said. Had Zion played. Had he not been injured. It seems to me that he would be the ROY which doesn't diminish Ja's impact or talent. Just means they are both special and I can't wait for all the head to head match ups to come. I truly wonder who has a better impact on winning games... I guess we will find out soon.

I know they have.. but I'm saying they were looking like a rebuilding team this year. Ja came in and said no lets keep it rolling. Did you think Memphis would be in the playoff hunt THIS year?

I got to say I'm the biggest Zion fan but Ja looked amazing and we are all very lucky to have two such talented young players in the league for many years to come!

I'd have to say Ja Morant. I think Memphis was projected to be one of the worst teams in the West.

They're better tha people thought they were, but how much worse than 20th on offense did you expect them to be? They were 16th in defense, and top 10 in rebounding. It seems like they were a little better than people thought because they jumped from 24th to 20th on offense, and they went from 30th to 16th on defense. I'm not sure how much, if any of their improvement on defense/rebounding should be attributed to Morant.

To be honest, I think adding an offensive engine like Morant can make you better offensively and defensively in situations, so he could have a big impact, but you should really be careful how much credit is thrown around for a team's improvement to one rookie that isn't a high level all star out of the gate.

Not that he isn't great for a rookie, but these "well look how good they are, has to be him" arguments just suck, and they always did.

Just look at Zion's free throw attempts. Jesus. But Ja deserves ROY pretty easily.
