I have a cloth mask that I'm debating on using for a grocery store run.
Wear it. It literally cannot hurt. The more it is normalized the more people will do it. Be a trendsetter.

I feel like reality tends to have a liberal bias. CNN is middle left, MSNBC tacks left of them. Fox news never was news. It's whole purpose is to be a right alternative. They don't even have a death count on their website. But most news is corporate center. Not one station supported Bernie and went out of their way to discredit and bury him. They got excited over **** Amy Klobuchar. They push candidates and ideas that the moneyed class supports. Overall they all push a narrative.

Deblasio was using the gym till the very end and vocally defending his choice, so he wasn't always vert enlightened, but a mile away from Georgia's governor.
My issue with the blaming the governor's...isn't a national emergency supposed to fall on the president and executive branch of government? I don't even remember who the governor of Florida was on 9/11. Is is supposed to matter? Isn't it the federal governments role to protect us? Or do we send state militias to Iraq/Afghanistan?
To me it doesn't matter your political stripes. The federal government absolutely failed all of us. And the head of that government literally said he accepts no responsibility and rates his response as a 10/10. Now he's got his corrupt son in law giving briefings and running a shadow task force. What is this corrupt crap. Nepotism should disgust everyone. What is this crap about social distancing guidelines with the president and vice president standing a foot away during a pandemic national crisis?
Remember Cheyney and the undisclosed locations the second 9/11 happened? At least they understood the chain of command and what happens if the president is attacked. It would be a cruel joke to them if Trump and Pence got infected and Pelosi became president. How can anyone take these people seriously?
Why is it the governors jobs to protect us? Stop outsourcing the responsibility of the executive branch and Presidency!

They don't have enough tests. Some say to be considered recovered you have to test negative two consecutive days.nymets1 wrote:Pharmcat wrote:nymets1 wrote:USA has over 10,000 recoveries now. I went through all the US states on bing.com/covid and I see a lot of states with 0 recoveries and the only state I see with a couple hundred recoveries is New York with 411 and than I see the small states like Delaware, New Hampshire, Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico and that's basically it. Something tells me they haven't updated the recoveries for the US states. Cause I added up the recoveries from each US state and it don't come close to the 10,365 recovered number in the USA.
Can we really trust the numbers since we don't even know the denominator of total infected ?
I believe the 10,403 recoveries for the USA that the website shows but there's something wrong with putting the recovered number for each state.
New York has 411 recoveries
Delaware has 49 recoveries
North Dakota has 43 recoveries
South Dakota has 51 recoveries
New Hampshire has 91 recoveries
Maine has 68 recoveries
New Jersey has 53 recoveries
New Mexico has 31 recoveries
California has 6 recoveries
All the other states I think are showing 0 recoveries. My math doesn't come anywhere to the 10,365 recoveries in the USA.

Read something last year stating that ~ 50% of people depend on their very next pay check to cover their expenses. Meaning losing two straight paychecks automatically puts them behind mortgage/rent payments.
This is why financial advisors have stressed having 3 months of income saved up. It’s easier said than done but it puts you at ease in most scenarios.
I’m sure this will change consumer spending behaviour.

Wonder when they'll raise the death rate? I know the WHO set it at 3.4% a while ago but we're over 5% now. We're a little over 2% with almost 2% in serious condition here. With the amount of obese people in United States we'll probably end up being a lot higher than South Korea. How often do you see an over weight South Korean?

This is just an estimate.
But it seems accurate that if we continue social distancing for another 3-4 months it'll be business as usual in August

The death percentage doesn't account for all the asymptomatic people who haven't been tested + the symptomatic patients who have it and recovered without ever being tested. Its extremely tough to estimate what percentage of people with the virus are asymptomatic.
South Korea ramped up testing while countries like Iran and Italy have high death %'s partly due to people only getting tested if they're showing severe symptoms.
Where I live, you weren't even allowed to get tested unless you said 1) you recently travelled or came into contact with someone who tested positive and 2) are showing symptoms.

I have a friend who most likely had it and was not allowed to get tested as it a couple days past and he had relatively now symptoms. I am pretty sure his brother gave it to him. Who knows who else he came in contact with that just don’t have any symptoms.

When did this become the thread for everyone do share their dumb opinions on "news bias"?
Stop making so much work for Dirk!!!!!!!!!
(Also "bias" is irrelevant - all that matters is accuracy. If don't like NYT/Wapo/WSJ because they are "biased" then your problem is actually with reality in most cases)

It's very clear that we are just not testing enough and are still mis-classifying a lot of deaths.
I'm really worried this thing is going to totally overwhelm the system in some areas and we won't see it coming.

Iceland are the only country testing random people to get a feel for how many in the population have it.
They found that 50% of people are asymptomatic.
They also found that from testing 15,000 people that were asymptomatic that they likely have 0.9% of population infected.
That is nearly 4000 people in their country.
Only 4 people have died there so far, there numbers have doubled in 10 days so even if you double their deaths for the time between diagnosis and death still unaccounted for, their mortality rate is a bit over 0.2%
Yes, the actual best mortality rate number we have right now is 0.2-0.3%, which makes it three times deadly as the average flu. The hospitalization rate is high, the r0 is high and we have no herd immunity so it's infecting masses of people fast. these are the major problems with this disease and why it's creating so many problems. It also highlights how fragile our health systems are, they seem to go along at the bare minimum of funding, any slight elevation in disease presentation creates a huge problem.
This also highlights that the US with a 2% mortality rate is likely under testing by a factor of 5 to 10.
