NBA Only Seriously Considering Las Vegas As Host For Entire Playoffs

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Apr 2, 2020 8:31 pm

The NBA is exploring the feasibility of holding its entire playoffs in Las Vegas, according to sources who spoke with Sports Illustrated.

The NBA has held its Summer League in Las Vegas since 2004, which has led the league to have relationships with hotels and arenas in the city.

With quarantining the players and staff in one location being the only current viable solution for playing games, Las Vegas is the only city the NBA is currently seriously considering.

“We all want to play. But we all know we can’t play until things are dramatically different,” said one high ranking executive from a playoff team.

This would see so awesome.

Imagine all 30 teams in the same hotel

Now imagine cameras everywhere!!!

Find a 30+ story hotel and arrange the sleeping arrangement based on team record!!! Worst teams get lower floors.. best teams get the top floors!!!

Imagine all ~450 nba players all in the same hotel!! Imagine the madness! Imagine the high jinx! Imagine the hotel bills! Imagine the content!!

Have isolation booths set up where players can just go talk to a camera.

Imagine the nba games played, and the only people there watching, are a couple hundred nba players!
USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team

Proceeds to finish 7th and shames the entire nation!

Is he nuts?

16 teams congregating in 1 city only means one certain result: spread of coronavirus

I hope the NBA's insurance will cover this, but I have a feeling it does not

I disagree if they have the testing ability this is feasable.. Teams spread out all over the country travelling via airports is far worse.. this feasable

actually much lower risk than any other option.
NBA player can't keep distance while playing, but this way you can let them keep distance from everybody else.

The real risk is: after you organize all this, what happens if one guy gets sick? At that point the season is over, and it can happen at any moment, even during the finals.

Only FEMA has the testing ability. Last time I'd checked FEMA does not have an agreement with NBA

The Social Distancing rule ought to be observed as much as possible, not only on a personal level but also on a team level. Hence, you must keep the teams apart as much as possible. Seriously, having all 16 teams in the same city is the last thing you will ever want to do.

If you have 16 teams congregating in one city and if one guy is a virus carrier, then he can spread it to all 16 teams, the umpires and the support staff.

But if you only have 2 teams in a city, the same virus carrier can only spread it to 2 teams, 1 umpire and the support staff.

Which is a higher risk?

The lowest risk option (other than cancelling the Finals) is to hold each of the 8 first round playoff series in 8 different cities. So, both playoff teams get to play in the same city during the same series. This will minimize travel requirements while maintaining no more than 2 teams in a city at the same time.

For example, you can have two teams in each of Vegas, Seattle, Hawaii and Vancouver for each of the first round playoff series of the Western Conference.

So, you can have the Lakers playing the Grizzlies in Vancouver, Clippers playing the Mavs in Hawaii, Nuggets playing the Rockets in Vegas and Jazz playing against the Thunder in Seattle.

And then you can hold the Western Conference semi in Vegas and Seattle, etc.

You know, I don't think Vegas has been hit yet, but as a destination city how could it not? The irony could easily be that Vegas could be right in the middle of its peak about the same time that the NBA wants to move in and set up shop. The only way to do this "safe" is to relocate to a high school gym on a small island somewhere in the Pacific.

Or as a hybrid of yours and theirs. Instead of 8 cities-2 teams each, do 4 cities-4 teams each. The city hosts Rounds 1 and 2, then those 4 winners move to the same city (perhaps one of the prior cities, so only 3 of the 4 teams travel) for Round 3 and 4. Lowers the total teams in one area from nba's idea, but also reduces travel from your situation

Ahh no its lower risk to have one destination than multiple.. It effectively ends the play offs if anyone gets it in any city any way..

Which part of the words "Social Distancing rule" did you not get? It does not matter if you live in a red state or a blue state. The coronavirus does not respect state boundaries.
