Official Covid-19 Discussion Thread

Post#1 » by wayoftheroad » Sat Apr 4, 2020 5:07 pm

Hey guys, I know there is a thread like this on the GB but that is mostly American related and we dont really have one here for us.

Thought we should have one thread to discuss all covid related issues. If not, Mods can delete.

We can talk about the daily briefings, closures, shopping or whatever.

Thanks guys and stay safe!

doesn't the 'OT: Panic Buying. When Will it End?' thread kind of serve that purpose here?

So Adam Silver said NBA Basketball will return when they get the all clear from public health officials. Without saying the words he effectively canceled the season. We are several months away from that reality and that’s an optimistic stance. Players aren’t going to play without contracts as well. We are absolutely going to leak into territory where contracts will end and the pending free agents won’t touch a Basketball until they inked a new contract. Like why would you risk an injury to play a condensed schedule or playoffs. Especially if you don’t think your team has a legit shot to win.

Ultimately I think this season will be canceled. The title will be vacant. And the new season will begin sometime in November or December. This is the most logical course of action. You can’t have this year screw up the flow of next year unless it was always the plan to start the NBA season much later.

I know some ppl who made less than $5000 last year, it's too bad that the CERB wont apply to them and they cant get EI either as they dont have a job and are looking.

Government should at least offer them something, even $1000 a month would help, half of the CERB. At least in the US its universal to all adults.

BC also supplementing disabled and welfare receivers with I think $300 one time top up. Alot of ppl on ODSP need just as much help to help with groceries and stuff as they struggle already

Nice site. Too bad the death rate by age group page hasn't been updated for more than a month :(

probably the most informative and reputable video I've seen since it's coming from a country that has successfully dealt with the virus and an expert that has experience with other viral outbreaks

Great video. It's mind-boggling how anyone can deny the effectiveness of masks.

The west's inability to admit they were wrong on an issue, especially to admit that "lesser" minds in the east were right (we're taught that only our experts know what they're talking about), has resulted in people dying. It's really sad that they couldn't swallow their pride.

This study was also done

https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-16836/v1

Some key points

"A subset of participants (72/246, 29%) did not cough at all during at least one exhaled breath collection, including 37/147 (25%) during the without-mask and 42/148 (28%) during the with-mask breath collection. In this subset for coronavirus (n = 4), we did not detect any virus in respiratory droplets or aerosols from any participants."

"our study only included symptomatic individuals and common coronaviruses RNA was not identified from respiratory droplets or aerosols of the small number of infected individuals who did not cough"

"Given the high collection efficiency of the machine22, and given that each exhaled breath collection was done for 30 minutes, this might imply that prolonged close contact would be required for transmission to occur"

So risk of transmission via droplet or aerosol around people that are not coughing or sneezing is incredibly low(zero is this study). Zero if somewhat social distancing.

People that showing symptoms should be at home anyways, but if they need to go out they absolutely need to put on a mask

So little testing still, especially here in Canada. The numbers are very deceiving/misleading.

You probably got in at the all-time high which is always a bad time to invest in anything. And in bitcoin your investing for the future not to make gains in the short term. You see bitcoin unlike cash has a set limit of 21 million. Which has to be mined ( lots of computing power and electricity is used) unlike what's being done right now with cash. Making it impossible to make more out of nowhere. It is backed by the blockchain which is decentralized which means there is no one person in control but many people running a ledger that is open to the public and verified by all the miners.
