Re: 2019-2020 College/Draft thread (Part 3)
Paul Reed is a guy i like a lot with a later pick. He has a nice all-around game. Potential to be a good defender with length and finishes well around the rim. Needs to improve the 3, but could be a really nice modern 4 type if it comes around. Shot 39% from 3 on spotups so is capable in that role. Forced too many 3s off the dribble (13% from 3 off the dribble), which brought his numbers down, and consistency/strength is an issue.
Seems like hes mostly projected in the 2nd round. Think he would be a great pickup in the 2nd round

I pretty much agree with that
as far as edwards goes I would take ball over edwards and wouldn't look back (would take ball 1st overall) I would take edwards over cole. edwards vs hayes is a tough one I think ultimately I'd go with edwards instead of trying to get too cute with it
so I guess my knicks board would look like
1. ball
2a. edwards
2b. hayes
3. cole
to get the first 3 we will pretty much have to win the lottery unless we get extremely lucky with the draft order and hayes falls to 7th or 8th in which case I'd jump at the opportunity. But unfortunately I suspect the Knicks might select Cole over Hayes regardless. Just speculating
Not too much of a point in stressing over it until the lottery has happened and then at that point it should be a lot more clear to us. Also if we have an opportunity to move up a few spots from 7th or 8th to select ball at 3-5 I would trade assets
I'm not too high on haliburton, I think if that's the skill set we want for our PG we should just commit to developing frank ntilikina at PG instead who I believe has a similar defensive oriented skill set and draft another position like toppin avdija okongwu hampton. then in that case perhaps look at backup caliber PGs at 27th maybe you get lucky and tre jones or theo maledon or one of those sleeper guards falls there. Also could be the plan if we took edwards
Completely agree.
This is a very realistic plan B because if all the top guards are gone before we pick, it is absolutely likely a top big has fallen to us. In that case, the worst thing we can do is to draft a mediocre PG with the top pick only because it fills a need.

This could be a great year to trade down if we stay at 6 or 7. Move back into the teens and select a fast riser like Lewis, Ramsey, or Vassell. Acquire more assets and keep building. 2021 draft is going to be loaded.

There's a lot of guard talent to consider and I guess he doesn't stand out physically.

I like Kira, Ramsey, nesmith, seddiq, Stanley, nwora, tre. Most guys people have been naming with Ramsey being my favorite if he’s there.
Ramsey won’t make it to 27 after workouts, unfortunately. One of the better shooters in the draft with an aggressive defensive mentality. Philly snags him in low 20’s.
Would love to have him.
Tommy Beer wrote an article about how the Knicks should look to take on contracts with picks attached this offseason; the cap is going to be lower than originally projected due to covid-19, so some teams will look to trade out of the draft/cut cap commitments as a way to avoid paying the luxury tax. so we could/should pick up another 1st
Love Ramsey too, but do we know if prospects will still be able to workout for teams with everything going on?

I don't see how he stands up the with the physicality of the NBA game. His lack of stength and length will hurt him in the NBA.
I think he has like a 6'2 wingspan and he will get pushed around. I don't think he shot it as well as people would have thought so he kinda doesn't impress me as much.
I'm more interested in Kira Lewis Jr. or Tre Jones in the later 1st round if we don't go PG with our early pick.

Anybody else get Cole Anthony just in for himself but not as good as he thinks vibes from him like DSJ? Want no part of him.

He's not my top choice (I prefer Lamelo or Hayes) but I could get behind Cole because of his mentality. He is a dog, and dogs thrive in NYC, DSJ is a frog.

And he will fit next to frank. He is a true shooter, can pass with both hands, and has grear bball iq. I see alot of mark price in him and because of his skin color i think he is being underrated.RHODEY wrote:mpharris36 wrote:RHODEY wrote:

No, cole had to play that way because he had no help in unc. His bball iq and shooting is much better than dsj now.8516knicks wrote:Anybody else get Cole Anthony just in for himself but not as good as he thinks vibes from him like DSJ? Want no part of him.

Na his teammates just suck and can’t hit open shots... that’s why he averaged so few assists and was forced to try to do so much on his own.
He’s got nice handle and can get to the rim and make plays... just has to make better shot selections.. has a bit to do with not being able to count on bad teammates too tho.

After a hot start Nico just didn't look good in conference play. Put up some horrible shooting numbers. Mark Price was a beast in college. Averaged 20ppg and shot 44% from 3 as a freshmen in the ACC when it was stacked. Was ACC freshmen of the year. (The 3 prior years it was Jordan, Perkins, Ralph Sampson). He was underrated as a nba prospect. Nico didn't look close to that level though.
I see Nico as more of a G off the bench. He probably needs more time/development, and might be better off staying in school.

Not at all. DSJ gave a totally different vibe. DSJ for one did not make his team better and as the season went on you can tell he gave up on his team. With Cole he made his team better, he did his best to keep his team involved and allthough he didn't have shooters around him (which is Why he had low assist numbers) he continued to move the ball and put his team in position to succeed.
I've said this before that like Melo, because his team could not produce, he would always end up with the last second shot because his teammates could not produce and it hurt his numbers. But because he was so good after their first 5-6 games NC was top ten in the poles, without him they dropped beyond 25. When he came back it was a little too late, they were out and he was stuck trying to show that he was healthy. Then the season was canceled. I would have love to see what they would have done in the tournament.

The game was different for sure, but Mark Price was on higher volume against better competition. He took 5.9 3's per game, and 16.5 fga as a freshmen. Nico took 5.1 3's, 11.5 fga.
Its really just more so how good Mark Price was even in college. Not many guys like Mark Price
