UVA is my collegiate team... dude is a VERY hard worker and excellent defender. I doubt he'll ever be an all star but he reminds me a lot of Buck Williams (for those who remember him). Plus dude has ice in his veins. Can guard any front court position depending upon matchups and has developed a reliable jumper

I did 20 boredom rolls on tankathon eariler

we got picks 1-4. 8/20 times. That's 40%, pretty close to the actual odds of 37.2%

Out of those 8 times, We took LaMelo 5 times (3 times with the 1st pick, once with the 2nd and once with the 3rd, and 1 each of Wiseman (3rd, LaMelo and Edwards went 1-2), Edwards (2nd, LaMelo went 1st) and Avdija (4th, Lamelo, Edwards, Wiseman went 1-3)

The other 12 times, we got either 7th or 8th. We took Hayes every time. Did not land 6th, 9th, or 10th. The odds of selecting 6th, 9th, or 10th are extremely low.

We will very likely be selecting 7th or 8th. Hayes should be available there and that's who I hope we would draft. However Cole is also going to be there.

LaMelo, Edwards, Wiseman, and Avdija are always in the top 4 and the Knicks would draft them in that order based on who is still available. So the chances of drafting Wiseman or Avdija are also low and would depend on getting 3rd or 4th and LaMelo or Edwards not being on the board. I have seen scenarios where the Knicks take LaMelo 4th because Wiseman Edwards and Avdija go top 3.

What I might expect based on this assuming no trades or anything wonky
Hayes or Cole, 62% based on Knicks preference between these two
LaMelo 27%
Edwards 5%
Wiseman 3%
Avdija 2%
Haliburton 1%

Edit: after rolling the crap out of it enough, I did manage to get 9th (3.7% chance). In that scenario Hayes is gone and they take Haliburton with Cole still on the board. I still think the Knicks would take Cole over Haliburton but I suppose it's not impossible so I accounted for it

We definitely do not talk enough Precious Achiuwa in here. This is the Siakam/Isaac type forward that fits in so well in today’s NBA.

One of the better defenders in the draft, has the ability to play effectively along-side Mitchell Robinson by stretching the floor, and also the ability to play small ball Center if need be.

The way he gets up and down the floor is ridiculous. Scores in the post, shoots the 3, puts the ball on the deck, and uses both hands. Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t even make it to pick 6.

Also side note is dude is from Queens. Would love to take the hometown kid.

Yeah, I agree with that take. I don't see him as a big scorer so think that will limit his ceiling. I think he can be a good role player that you like to have on your team. But even in this draft, not sure I would take him top 10 for the Knicks. He reminds me a little of Frank as a prospect, in that he is gonna need time and be developed, and he may end up just being a role player but comes with a lot of risk. If he goes to the right team he could be valuable. Think for the Knicks that could end badly, and there might be better picks for us.

I think it depends on which version of Deni we’re getting. Is it the FIBA version of a playmaking wing or the Maccabi Fox version
Who’s an catch and shoot wing and off ball cutter? Obviously the former is much more valuable than the later.

IIRC there was a part of the euro league season that his team was pretty banged up and he ended playing back up point for Maccabi. I’d love to see some footage of those games to see how he handled it. That be huge deal, if he was successful running point on one of the best teams in the second best league in the world.

He does look like a good passer, but he needs to work on his handles. I don't know if I see him becoming a big facilitor, so think odds are he is more of the latter. But maybe he can be like a Diaw/Ingles type, with defense and a little of everything. Again, that could be a good player. Just see him more of a role player, where I would prefer others.

I think Diaw and Ingles are good comps but those guys became really good defenders which Deni would need to become. IDK I just don't like the idea of making a top 6-8 pick a guy who really can't get his own shot even a little bit. I'm not expecting a primary ball handler necessarily but somebody who I know at the very least has a bankable offensive skill outside of stand still shooting. So much has to go right in his development for him to be more than just a neutral wing IMO.

I'd much rather take a chance on Halliburton/Killian/Cole in that range who I think have potential 2 way ability but have some more juice offensively.

I really like Haliburton’s fit with this team based on his skills and BBIQ. I really don’t like Cole and think he’ll be a bust or bench piece at best. He’s too ball dominant, has questionable decision making, and not a great shooter.

Haliburton has a low ceiling. Other than shooting he really doesn't do anything all that well from an NBA perspective. He's got a high mechanical dribble and no one in the NBA is going to fall for that weird jimmy shake he does with the ball in front of him to create space for him right now, so he's not likely going to be able to create off the dribble. His passing also is kinda mechanical tbqh. He is smart and that helps him not turning the ball over and get to his spots on defense but he's hot and cold there as well. but assuming the Knicks pick in the 6 or 7 range it would be too high to take him. He's really more of a college star type and probably is more of a catch and shoot type guard in the NBA. Haliburton isn't a needle mover which is kinda what the Knicks need...IMO.

Just finished and uploaded my latest Prospect Breakdown video on Anthony Edwards. I have him as number 1 on my draft board. His offensive package and physical gifts are bananas. But don’t worry I hit on his weaknesses as well.

I don't buy into his shooting either because his form is weird. He did make a great percentage in ncaa but I feel like he's one of those guys where it will drop when he comes into the nba. No numbers to back that up just a gut feeling. Also doesn't try to get to the rim and not really a dynamic playmaker. The good thing about him is his defense. But like I said before, we have a frank already who fits that whole profile and franks shot and confidence has shown some flashes of improvement too

Yes. Just lose that last game of the season and we're 4th instead of 6th with much higher odds.

But, maybe they finally get lucky for once in our lifetimes. The improved draft odds give them a better chance then we ever have had before from this position

If you look at the numbers we actually got lucky to get 3rd last year.

Deni's defense looks good and seems like one of his strengths, but it's so hard to tell how that will translate over to the nba from Europe.

I def agree and would rather target Hayes/Haliburton/Cole..Hayes is the guy i really like out of all of them.

Was bored so I took my chances at 20 --

TANKATHON SIMULATIONS
10. Haliburton (Cole 11th)
7. Hayes
8. Hayes
4. Avdjia
8. Hayes
6. Hayes
4. Avdija
6. Hayes
1. Ball
2. ball (behind Wiseman over Edwards)

1. Ball
6. Hayes
7. Hayes
7. Hayes
8. Hayes

7. Hayes
7. Hayes
7. Hayes
3. Wiseman (Edwards1; Ball 2)
4. Avdija
Hayes 12; Avdija 3; Ball 3; Wiseman 1; Haliburton 1
1-4 ( 7 /20)

I got pick 6 three times and we took Hayes every time.
Avdija seems like our solid 2nd chance in my tries at least.

we got picks 1-4.

So what your really saying is maybe our front office should have told Miller to play the young kids instead of keep on winning. And we would have had a better draft position.

The season got cut short and Knicks are 1.5 games back of 2nd worst record in the league. 1.5 games! Nobody except the Warriors created much separation in the tanking war

Alan Hahn had a good suggestion today on Facebook, that would help the Knicks out a lot. I think we all realize that the regular season is over. If they can finish the year at all we're just getting the playoffs. Since some teams have played like 67 games and others have only played 63. So he suggested that we roll everyone records back to their 63rd game and it would put us in a three way tie for 4th, instead of 6th.

That’s a really good idea. It’s also true these records are based on uneven amount of games played. That adds a whole other layers to a already complicated situation. This is probably why they keep saying they want at least a few weeks of games before the playoffs. They need a uniformed number of games played for both playoff seeding and draft purposes. If there is no longer a season they should roll back to 63 games.
