The dumbest part is MLB has basically done it via a conference call forever. There's no reason the NFL couldn't just copy them.

With the NFL, it's always about revenue. They probably see this altered draft as lost cash coming in the door, so they're going to whine. Plus, this was to be a sort of NFL grand opening for Las Vegas, so they're doubly pissed. Compared to the losses other businesses(farms, restaurants, etc) are taking, with much less likelihood of recovering their revenues, tough toenails, NFL.....

Even more annoying are the fans complaining that the draft is going on. Like can we as sports fans have some fun at this time? I can’t play or watch basketball. I can’t go to the sports bars to watch anything. As an RN I spend 12 hours a day taking care of very sick patients, at least 4 days a week. Can I have a couple of days where I just zone out and enjoy watching the NFL draft?

I don't understand why they don't want it now. If they push it to June and by the grace of God we can function as a society again, there is no way in hell I'm staying in 3 nights in a row to watch the draft. If they have the draft during a lockdown with all parks (just got an alert :( ), golf courses, and restaurants closed.....Sure I will stay at home and even watch it live through the commercials. Just put Mel Kiper back in his basement studio, have every agent who wants his client publicized send them a decent camera for reaction and interview, and have Goodell announce it in a robe- still better than having random people due it and trying to be funny/unique.

Absolutely. Some distraction is good in times like these.

Godspeed and major hat tip to you and all front line workers. Stay safe out there.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

I’m being lazy right now but I really hope this thread picks up some steam. The draft is the ONLY sports thing going on that has some semblance of normal for me !

Ding ding ding. And personally, I'm tired as hell of the televised hoopla that the draft has become. Having seven rounds stretched out for three days is ridiculous.

If I'm a GM for the NFL draft and I don't see a player I really love, I'm trading most of my picks for future picks. Rookies won't get a real camp this year and that will set them back, plus if they actually postpone some of the NFL season (latest news is we might not see any sports until Thanksgiving) it's pretty much not worth it. Imagine rolling the dice and having two picks in every round next season.

Not ideal for fans like us but it might be what's best for the team.

Or, you may see teams reaching on 'day 1 ready' talent and leaves more, less ready talent available for later picks.

Dream scenario
1. Murray or Queen are available in first, but I am thinking unlikely

So next dream scenario
2. Trade down with a team looking to take a QB in the first to get the extra year.
Pick (trade value)
GB 1st (620) GB 3rd (124) for LAC 2nd (525) LAC 3rd (235)...that would give us 37, 62, 71, 136, 176 in the first 5 rounds

37 - Reagor, Ayuik, Mims
62 - Clyde Edwards H
71 - Logan Wilson/Davis-Gaither/Willie Gay/Jordan Dye
136- Proche/Lynn Bowden
176- Antonio Gibson

From the CBS composite big board

Code: Select all

For LB's, Simmons goes the first ten, by most mocks. Marshall and Queen go anywhere from #20 to #40, with most speculation leaning to #20 #25(from what I've seen). Baun usually falls in that same range, but some see him as an Edge, some see him as a hybrid.

Also, I've seen more predictions of Tackles, or other Oline in that #5 to #25 range - one source guessing up to 10 oline guys in the first!

Then, of course, how many teams go into the QB sweeps?

A long-winded way of saying, either the primo WR the Pack wants is there, or do the trade back into the early second and combine some of the draft capital to pick up another third or forth round pick? I can't see them hanging on to three sixth rounders and two sevenths.

There are some decent options there

I think 3 WR will for sure go in the first, after that it is all bets are off because of how deep this WR class is. Jeudy, Ruggs, Lamb should all be off the board. So I could see something crazy, where because of the depth, people decide to wait, potentially pushing a lot of 1st round talent into the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Or, we see a big run on WR because no one wants to miss out on grabbing a playmaker.

I'm just excited with the WR/ILB talent in this draft.

I keep coming back to the kid from Southern Ill.

Simmons is 6'4" 238 lbs
Queen is 6' 229
Murray is 6'2" 241

Chinn is 6'3" 221. Doesn't have the bulk of those guys, but is that what we really need? Derwin James was 6'2", 215 when he came out and Chinn is an even better athlete across the board while being 6 lbs bigger. I love the idea of adding a big, athletic monster-back in the middle of the defense.

Idk man, I mean I’ve seen you pimp Chinn pretty hard over the past few weeks and I’m genuinely wondering what you’re seeing besides an athlete? The ONLY thing I see Chinn has in common with Derwin James is physical size. He shows insanely poor awareness on the back end, constantly putting himself on an island by misreading plays. I’m really not sold on him at all. Can his physical tools make splash plays from time to time? Sure. Will it show up in the pros when EVERYONE is bigger, stronger and faster? Idk. Are you willing to gamble the 30th pick in a critical draft? I’m not...

Aaron Rouse is probably my favorite comp for him. (shout out MCG).

Obviously I could be way wrong but he just doesn’t show a ton of smarts out there. And that’s a big red flag to me. With how advanced and high powered offenses are in the NFL, a player that just runs around like a maniac that can’t ever seem to be in the right place at the right time, I don’t see him making a huge name for himself.

Having said all that, I’d like to close by saying what I say at work all the time: “I’m just a dumb mailman, wtf do I know”. Lol.

Will be interesting to see if guys with injury red flags really fall. Without being able to bring guys in I could see teams be very risk adverse.

Looks like the T group late 1st or 2nd round is pretty good. WR would be a more exciting pick but might be better to grab the T early and take advantage of the WR depth mid rounds.

what are peoples top three choices for WR, LB, DT, and OT for the Packers knowing obviously they have to acquire them at different points in the draft.

Anyone have any good podcast recommendations to prep for the draft?

Now that I have kids I just don't watch enough college football to have any real knowledge of these players.

WR (no order) - Aiyuk, Mims, Reagor

LB (order) - Murray, Queen, Brooks

DT (order) - Raekwon Davis, Neville Gallimore, Ross Blacklock

OT (order) - Austin Jackson, Josh Jones, Tyler Biadasz

That’s just who I like at 30 at those 4 positions you mentioned. Doubtful any make it to 62 but we could get lucky I suppose.

Kiper and McShay did a mock where they each drafted an entire team of rookies. Haven't listened to it, but it would probably be a good change of pace and show who they think the best players are rather than teams drafting for need.
