Knicks need to go after Donovan Mitchell

Post#1 » by iLLmatic860 » Sat Apr 11, 2020 12:08 pm

Disgruntled CAA client who also endorsed Leon Rose recently

We failed on taking DSJ from that draft. Frank is still TBD but we absolutely need to send Randle, Filler and both Mavs picks for Dmitch

There’s also a “Trades and Transactions” thread.

Start at this years Knicks pick, plus RJ, plus more first-round picks, plus anybody else on our roster they like.

Only Mitch is safe if they move Donovan instead of Gobert. And they would definitely move Gobert first so this is a pointless exercise.

I think you need to sell the Jazz that our lottery pick being the center of the your package for Mitchell. You need to try to keep RJ and Mitch to give Spida someone to play with when he gets here. Knox, smith, 2020 lottery pick, 2021 Dallas pick, 2023 Dallas pick isn’t a bad package for a team ready to rebuild. Toss in the clippers pick if you need too. Dmitch isn’t anthony Davis and 3/4 firsts would be a major haul for him.

I don’t think the Jazz are anywhere near wanting to rebuild though. They’re a home team for playoffs in the West, a tier below the true title contenders but a damn good team.

I’d wait to see if this “tension” between Mitchell and Utah is even real. Let it burn before trying to make a move. I’d give the lotto pick this year for him.

If the Knicks want Mitchell they'll likely need to AT LEAST (emphasize AT LEAST) start with either their own 1st round pick or RJ Barrett. No one other than Mills and Perry (and Knick fans looking through rose colored or the wrong prescription glasses) thinks that those 2 Dallas picks are worth much of anything with Doncic and Porzingis there for both seasons leading up to their respective drafts. Nor is Knox, Smith, Frank or any of that rabble of blahness going to be fronting a package.

If Donovan asks out they might not have a choice and a lottery pick would be very attractive asset.

No we absolutely do not need to go after Mitchell. That would be a classic Knick move.

I hope the Knicks stay cheap and keep building from within.

Why? Only the pelicans have the type of draft capital we have and they’re going to be mostly late round picks too. We actually have a lottery pick to offer them.

DM is good. Real Good. But I'm not sure you go after him if it costs you RJ or Mitch (which is the only way Utah agrees). Like jvsimone stated... you have to have someone here for DM to play with

I think he meant that we never drafted DSJ, we drafted Frank. Later traded for DSJ in the KP trade as a do over but that's besides the point.

In any case I'm in no rush to take a shortcut when there's nobody really here to build a team around him with. Itll be like Carmelo all over again. That's pretty much how I feel about any trade for anybody. The only trades the Knicks should be exploring are ones where we're earning draft picks and young prospects. I mean, there are some I'd consider where we give up one pick and maybe one youngins but they don't include RJ/Mitch and they probably wouldn't be for anybody you'd go crazy over.
