Kendrick Nunn: Heat Are In Playoffs So 'Give That Rookie Of The Year To Kendrick Nunn'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Apr 14, 2020 5:41 am

Kendrick Nunn said that he deserved to win the Rookie of the Year award over Ja Morant due to the success of the Miami Heat.

"I think people will say that he is Rookie of the Year, but I don't believe it. The most value should be in the wins. And we're both starting guards on teams, and our team has been holding it down. We're a playoff team, so go ahead and give that Rookie of the Year to Kendrick Nunn," Nunn told Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Nunn also said that he didn't pay attention to Morant or Zion Williamson's numbers this season.

"I really wasn't watching their numbers or anything like that. I'm just watching them in the game, and see how they're playing and just trying to scout 'em, getting ready to play 'em," said Nunn.

Nunn is averaging 15.6 points and 3.4 assists on the season.

Nunn added that he knew he would be a starter for the Heat during the preseason.

"When we were getting all the rotations together and figuring out the pieces on the team, the impact that I had offensively was needed for a starting position. So my scoring ability was there, so it made sense for me to start from the start of the season."

Well Grizzlies are also in the playoffs.. He has a much better team than Ja and is in the east.. He has done well but Ja has done better.. I think Pelicans have a better team than both but are outside the playoffs and Zion has not played enough games clearly.. So it's not like Nunn has zero points but it is pretty clear cut that Ja is rookie of the year.. That said many great players did not win rookie of the year so Nunn should focus on becoming better rather than an award he won't get..

I'd like to read the full transcript, especially the questions. To be honest, Grizz-Heat could be a pretty good hypothetical series, as Playoff Valanciunas might be too big for Bam to manage. That said, Memphis goes as Ja goes and Nunn might only be the 4th most important player on the Heat roster.

His statement comes across as sounding like that tweet

You have one of the most underrated and underappreciated coaches of all time. Jimmy Buckets, Bam and Dragic are carrying you up and down the court. Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson are better and more efficient rookies than you.

Not true. Also Robinson is not a rookie.
My opinion may not be your opinion or their opinion but I have it.

you lot get wound up easily.

Nunn was a no-one who has had a fantastic season and made a difference.

It would be good for basketball to give it to him.

Meanwhile, in south beach Dwyane Wade is making phone calls to attempt to rig the voting...

Kendrick who?

Ja and Zion are potential future faces of the entire NBA. Nunn is a solid role player. There is no debate. He’d be lucky to receive even 1 vote.

It's not like Nunn's some feel good underdog story. He was a highly regarded high school recruit and talented college player who got kicked off the Illini for domestic battery. The only reason he went undrafted and had to make the league as a no one was due to his own actions.

With all due respect to Kendrick Nunn ... he definitely deserves Rookie All NBA 1st team consideration -- but not ROY.
With the heat, Jimmy Butler also shares the playmaking duties with Nunn, alleviating the pressure of playing PG.

Ja Morant clearly for rookie of the year : thriving / dominating in the most difficult position in the league as the team's best player.

Zion is having an incredible run as well -- but that is also more of a by product of Brandon Ingram transformation into an all-star, Lonzo's improvement from the perimeter and Jrue Holiday returning to an all-NBA defender.
