Part of the agency's struggle is tied to the 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act.

The law "absolutely slammed the USPS when it mandated it to pre-fund its retiree health benefits 75 years into the future with $5.5 billion annual payments for 10 years," said Philip Rubio, a history professor at North Carolina A&T State University and a former letter carrier.

“For the last decade, they have operationally had revenue surpluses every year, or ‘profits,’" Rubio said. "But that debt obligation became a politically manufactured crisis."

No other government agency is required to pre-fund, Rubio said.

A bunch of fat white dudes with assault rifles, why am I not surprised. In this particular case I'm kind of, just a little, rooting for Darwin to work his magic.

The problem in this case is that Darwin won't just take care of them, but also of some of the people they get too close to.

They can carry weapons like that as civilians? Those are some heavy duty weapons too not just guns.

Well, looking at that particular lot hopefully no one wants to get close to them in the first place. All sarcasm aside though I agree, they're dangerous morons in the best of times and also in these times, and not just to themselves.

I think Whitmer went too far.

You can't go to the house you own where you are more isolated? Why? I don't want to live in a military state.

She shuts down a bunch of commerce but if the government is getting their cut (alcohol, lottery, weed taxes) it's ok. That's a joke.

This because .03% of the state population have gotten sick.

This is actually kind of funny for NBA players if it happens, since one of the side perks is partying and going out. All it takes is ONE guy on a team to disobey the rules and it topples like a deck of cards.

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/257891/Dr-Anthony-Fauci-Believes-Sports-Could-Return-Without-Fans-Players-Isolated-In-Hotels

"There's a way of doing that," Fauci told Snapchat's Peter Hamby as part of a weeklong interview series. "Nobody comes to the stadium. Put [the players] in big hotels, wherever you want to play, keep them very well surveilled. ... Have them tested every single week and make sure they don't wind up infecting each other or their family, and just let them play the season out."

They would feel like lab rats.

Also, this comment someone made:

Let's treat NBA players like porn stars. Test them weekly and isolate them so they can't contract deadly diseases. Great plan guys! Keep up the good work.

Sorry to laugh but with this virus and no vaccine, if you want sports these guys really are going to have to follow rules perfectly and it won't be easy AT ALL.

Poor Kemba too, one of the reasons he came to Boston was not just for the deep playoff run finally but for the fan experience.

I actually wonder if sports resume, if any of the players end up retiring suddenly or just going nuts.

Well, players only have so many years to play, and even less prime years. There's no assurance this season will resume, and who knows if next season is guaranteed to be a go. If I'm LeBron James (or any star in their prime/twilight years trying to win a ring), I'd be crestfallen.

Well I don't know how this will all work but Dr. Fauci also doesn't seem to want people shaking hands in the near future for a while either. So they will all touch the same basketball?

And......the LA Mayor might want to not have ANY sporting events or concerts for the rest of this year.

And I don't know what they are looking into in Canada either, since people forget the Raptors are not in this country.

If they find a safe location to do this without fans and test them enough I say it's worth trying, maybe. But I just think something will end up going wrong since doesn't it always? lol

Also would be kind of tough for them all too with families at home they don't get to see since well......sports....

And don't forget KAT just lost his mother to this virus.

Kind of besides the point - but Fauci said he said that tongue in cheek.

(eta - technically he said it was "a little tongue in cheek")

Yeah it's tough to tell with Dr. Fauci at times how serious he is but I think he is being serious about not touching each other in the general public for a while. He also knows how serious this virus is IMO, but he has to also find the grey area between both parties to try to say the right things. It gets tough on him to be clinical but open minded at the same time.

With the sports, people forget these are not just robots either. The psychological impact of this virus is on them too and some have gotten it and KAT lost his mother. And a team like the Nets is a playoff team in a state that has been ravaged by the virus.

It won't be as easy as some believe to just "go back to sports" seamlessly right away. It will take some time.
