Biggest surprises for me on top of my head are Jokic, McHale, Mourning and Tony Allen not getting picked up. I understand that they are flawed players but I feel like their value to fga ratio is really really really good.

McHale omission is tough to me. I wanted to get him, but I don't think him and Duncan is a perfect pairing. A shame because he's perfect player for these kind of drafts - great scorer who wasn't ball dominant, very solid and versatile defender and could also come off the bench.

Mourning is the only surprise IMO and even then not so much.

Jokic would be a major defensive liability in a pool with Shaq/Kareem/Hakeem. McHale needs the ball too much, post-up iso guys typically aren't highly regarded when trying to build very talented teams. Tony Allen is just not a good enough player to get drafted here, he's completely useless on offense.

I think Jokic and Allen are very very playable in this. I strongly considering going with Jokic instead of Moses. Now granted I had KG and AK47 as perfect PF options next to him, but to me his biggest issues defensively wouldn't be man defense against the elite bigs. Nobody is shutting down Shaq or Kareem or Moses, but he's big enough to make them fight for positioning and you can find some PF's who can handle the help defense.

And Allen is imo the best on-ball perimeter man defender of all-time. That guy always has a spot on a team with this many elite iso wings and guards. He's an offensive liability, but he's not Andre Roberson. He shoots 33% on corner 3's. Not good, but definitely playable. I just wish he shot a little less IRL to make him more affordable here.

Mourning to me is the least playable of the names you listed. He's not as good defensively as the true elite defenders and his offense is too weak to want to use possessions up with him in this. You'd be much better off with Gobert or Deke or if you wanted more offense guys like Gasol or Sabonis.

Didn't see him on the roster page, any chance Baron Davis went this time around?

Didn't go. Just shot too much for me to have ever seriously considered him. Plus I'm still a little mad about 2007 if I'm honest. :D

Updated the Meta in a spoiler on my Roster page for those interested.

Guys I mentioned who I considered draft but no one ended up drafting:

Paul Millsap
Jack Sikma
Wesley Matthews
Don Buse

Other guys I've thought about who weren't drafted:

Nikola Jokic - I probably would have needed to draft him as my #1 guy to even consider him seriously, and such defensive limitations in a big make that not realistic for me to consider at this stage.

Tracy McGrady - may well be the guy I'd build my team around if I were asked to make a 17th team right now.

Luka Doncic - also needs to be the Man, and in the absence of any playoff experience, didn't think I could do that yet

Pau Gasol - the absence of 3's made him a non-starter for me, but honestly I think if he came into the league later, he'd be hitting 3's like his brother, and I'll forever be enthralled with how he immediately changed the Lakers

Lamar Odom - could have been great in this league

Jrue Holiday - actually love him for an All-Time League team, but he shoots too much for the role I'd want to use him as

Alonzo Mourning - I drafted him in another one of these so didn't want to do it again and he's not a 3 shooter, but seriously, dude is underrated. It's not just that he shoots more than the Mutombo/Wallaces of the world, from my experience, he doesn't get the respect he deserves.

I think it would be interesting to rank the teams on each end of the court as well. Dr P probably has the best offensive team, but I would be interested in ranking each team by offense and defense. Perhaps before or after the playoffs.

I'd need to build my offense around Jokic and then deal with the fact that I'd probably have no way of running the offense when he went to the bench. I'd do it if his defense were awesome, but since that's a weakness too, I had to reluctantly let him go. Never seriously considered him, but was sad about that fact.

You wouldn't have to. Rookie Jokic already posts big on-off numbers (+9.5), and a pretty impressive boxscore profile on 7.5 fga. That would require certain circumstances (1st choice C capable of playing PF well for a short spell), not being completely boxed in on bench picks, but not implausible.

Then too (without any claim to expertise) I'm not sure the data supports defense as a weakness (cf: https://www.cleaningtheglass.com/stats/player/1883/onoff#tab-team_efficiency) though relative to elites it is and the perception (which is low) not the reality is what effectively gets to play for you, so ...

Any chance we could do a time limit on the voting rounds instead of a first to 4? I was hoping for some serious discussion on each matchup and I know there's plenty I'll have a very tough time deciding on and I don't want anybody rushing to get votes in.

I like this. 24 hour period. We are in no rush.

There have been calls to abandon the first to 4 votes post. I'm not going to institute a time limit because some threads might just get forgotten and we'll have a 2-1 victory in them which is absurd. I am however ok with going first to 5 as Fade suggested. If there are any thoughts, post them here, otherwise I'll make the change in a couple of hours.

If attraction is the issue, let's make it 6 in R1, 5 in R2 and 4 afterwards.
The issue with per75 numbers;
36pts on 27 fga/9 fta in 36 mins, does this mean he'd keep up the efficiency to get 48pts on 36fga/12fta in 48 mins?
The answer; NO. He's human, not a linearly working machine.
Per75 is efficiency rate, not actual production.

I have a hard time seeing teams get 5-6 votes in this without the thread dying. I was already expecting this project not to finish, although the pandemic may help people avoid losing interest compared to normal.
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

My two cents, four is plenty challenge to get and five will be tough.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
