Kobe was about an inch taller and had a wingspan 3-4 inches longer.

If you are going to compare Jalen Green to Kobe, you need to broaden the discussion beyond measurables and head shots. We're talking Kobe Bryant. Kobe wasn't special and great because of his measures. He was exceptional because of his international upbringing, his high IQ, and his insane mamba drive. That drive allowed him to mentally push teammates to excess yet he'd (eventually) earn their respect, which is a rare skill to have. Kobe was a hard ass. In the Marine Corp, Kobe would have been a master gunnery sergeant. These skills have nothing to do with wingspan. If you're going to say that Jalen Green has a drive like Kobe's please offers some stories as evidence because again we're talking about Kobe.

When I think about the great SGs of the NBA -- MJ, Kobe and Manu -- each was intensely driven, each had an exceptional BBIQ, each was physically gifted. Yet their personalities led them to transcend in different ways. Manu, the son of a basketball coach, killed you with lethal brilliance in countless ways (like his infamous end of quarter scoring barrages). Kobe, the son of a pro basketball player, was ruthless to his own teammates. MJ, one of many brothers & sisters, was so tormented in competition within his own family, that he was already an obsessive competitor before attending college. Yet each of these men were generally beloved by their teammates. They were loved. If Manu died tomorrow, his former teammates would be speechless for days, all of South America would mourn for weeks, while the rest of Hispania would grieve with them.

I refuse to refer to these as intangibles. To you they might be because some NBA scouts examine a prospect like a southern plantation owner would examine a slave. To some, the ability to lead others and command respect are vital for greatness. If there's one position that this seems particularly true, it's SG.

What, beyond the superficial, makes Jalen so special as a SG that he warrants a comparison to Kobe?

i don't think anyone is saying he's the next Kobe, that's an insanely high bar, but he has that old school Kobe 2 guard game, but he's uber talented with a dog mentality that reminds me of guys like Kobe

legitimate elite 3 level scorers like JG don't grow on trees

Right, and Green is 6-5 180 man, it's not comparable, T-Mac also got a lot of length and hoops on him

Being 6'8+ is a real threshold

That's pretty disingenuous to argue 6'7" without shoes. That's at least 6'8" with shoes and a lot of guys would measure at 6'8.5" with shoes being 6'7" in socks. If he was 210 as a "skinny" 18-year old, that's already pretty beefy.

He looks closer to 6'5 and about 180-190. His measurables leave a lot to desire. But I also see what Clyde sees in terms of playstyle, bounce and jump shot.

Just dropped Jalen’s film breakdown. Dude’s game just screams tailor made for the NBA. I think his game is reminiscent of young Rudy Gay and Paul George. Great tough shot maker who sometime settles, crazy athlete, super impressive on ball defender, needs to work on his playmaking. He’s long AF and it feels like he’s taller than the 6’5” he’s listed at. Really intrigued to see what the G-League development program does for him.
