Mikal Bridges was born in 96. So he was 7 when Lebron was drafted. This essentially means that he grew up adoring Lebron. So it doesn't surprise me. If you are in your 30's or older you would more appreciate what you had versus what's going on now. For Mikal, Lebron is probably the best player he's ever seen. No doubt. But to say he would get 90 a game against the 86 Celtics or any team in any era is crazy. I don't think Lebron wants to get 90.

Lebron might get 90 against them, but Mikal Bridges would still be putting up single digits.

I don't think anyone's lending credence to the 'get 90' part. Merely pushing back on the disrespect illustrated by his tone.

Here's what the Celtics think of LeBron scoring 90 PPG against them:

Different era. Way different. You will get dropped in the 1980's if necessary.

Bird knew it well, went through it with the Pistons. As did Jordan.

The best attack against the Celtics was speed and agility. Not brute force. Jordan was better equipped to attack the Celtics than LeBron is.

Exactly my thoughts

But I think people are more responding to huge fact he’s just looking to say LeBron is way better than Jordan and those Celtics would be helpless against him, which is quite dismissive of and disrespectful to the legends on that team

Well they haven't got to the Jordan Rules episodes yet. You switch out Lebron and Jordan and I have no doubt Lebron would fair extremely well in the 80's or any era, you would have The Lebron Rules and at that point it's about mental toughness. Jordan said many times that the toughness made him better.

Just thought of the proper way to think about those Celtics against any LeBron-led team we've seen.

It would be like the 2014 Spurs against the 2014 Heat.

Just a beatdown that couldn't be avoided. Precision, execution, dismantling.

If you want to score 90 PPG in such a situation, have fun. You're still going to get run out of the gym.

I hated the 1986 Celtics. Really hated them, particularly as a Rockets fan. But they were probably the best team I've ever seen, and I'd probably pick them over anyone except maybe the peak Jordan Bulls. They were like the best version of the Spurs on steroids.

Going to clarify on my original statement. Wilt is the only player to have over 90 points in 1 game and that happened a grand total of one time. One of my first memories in life was the 86 Celtics and they were legit. Do people not know or remember Larry Bird could go toe to toe with Magic and that many consider Magic the prototype version of LBJ. Not to mention that had great defenders in McHale and Parish. This has to be one of most absurd basketball takes I heard from a professional player (realgm has this beat a 1000x)

I've defended LeBron on this board many times. Heck of a player. But not even close to the level of mental toughness that Jordan had, IMO. He's gotten closer over time, but still not close to the same level. Ditto in regards to Bird.

Bird would torture LeBron, mentally. For sure LeBron would get his, but Bird would be in his head on the other end.

It takes a lot of mental toughness to get your butt kicked for an entire game. Physically just get beaten on. I'm not sure LeBron's ready for that. He's big and he's strong and he played football, but dealing with it for 48 minutes in a basketball game is a different thing.

Physically LeBron could deal with it. I'm not sure he could handle it mentally.

LeBron would not average 90 vs the 86 Celtics.

LeBron wouldn't of been in the playoffs in 86.

LeBron wouldn't have came back in that 86 season. Woulda took the year off while complaining that he needs more help to the FO.

& Lets not forget this was 86 Jordan, not 93.

That'd be 05 Bron not 2015 Bron. Way different players. So that's foolish.

Bridges is an idiot.

Exactly. So says the kid who wasn't even alive yet. I watched that Celtics team all through the 80s. LeBron would still be great. I don't doubt that. But, nothing like people think. He doesn't have the mental fortitude to take the pounding in the paint that those guys did. You had to be a dog to dominate in those days. I just don't think he has that in him. Case in point, Jason Terry punked him in the 2011 finals.

Back in the 80s, those guys liked the contact. It's a different era now. Dirk even said something most guys today wouldn't get. He said that he always wanted his defender to body up on him so he could feel the contact. Yes, Lebron is a physical beast but you have to be a mental beast too. Any number of defenders would have gotten up into LeBron and frustrated him with the contact.

Chanel Bomber wrote:First of all, Mikal Bridges may not be able to play basketball as a professional today if it weren't for the 80s players - including the 86 Celtics - carrying the NBA, elevating the overall skill level and heavily contributing to making the game what it is now.

Second, have some respect for your predecessors. You haven't made the playoffs yet. You're a scrub in the NBA until further notice. Those guys have jewelry. Be quiet.

Third, I can't help but think he feels empowered to say that because of the whiteness of the Celtics. Again, STFU. Bird would smoke you and walk over the ashes without even noticing.

Fourth, the game doesn't work like that. There's a reason no one's even come close to average 50 since Wilt. Teams double. Triple. Whatever. They adjust. Again, maybe that's why your career hasn't taken off.

Fifth, LeBron is not on Jordan's level. We know the deal. Saying that LBJ is the greatest makes your story more relevant because you can then say you played against the greatest, thus elevating your own story. No. Jordan was always the favorite. There's a reason LeBron has been the underdog so often and that's because he wasn't great enough to consistently elevate his team above the rest of the competition despite having more than sufficient help since his first departure from Cleveland. This LeBron GOAT talk is absurd.

People - including LeBron who's classlessly feeding this - are distorting reality to create a false narrative and it's honestly a little annoying after a while.
