Yeah, but it's
so much Counter-Strike, what is going to set it apart from that game which already has an established fanbase for over a decade? The abilities, from what I've seen more or less just function as different types of grenades for the most part.
Yea, I've played about 5 mins of Counter-Strike and I was pretty lost playing my first games of Valorant last night, although I wasn't last place on my team in any of the games. I was actually surprised at how friendly the guys on my teams were when I told them these are my first games. There's so much to learn about the maps/angles/callouts that new players are at a severe disadvantage. And without knowing the strategy behind using each character's abilities, I felt like I was using my ability just to use it. The only player that has clear abilities that are easy to utilize and understand is Raze (grenades + roomba bomb + rocket launcher).
Really satisfying getting kills and making a nice play though.
20 year CSGO player here. Valorant is just like CS except with one small issue that I actually don't like:
1. The spawns are way to close to eachother. The choke points are literally ten steps out of each team's spawn. I prefer the bigger map set up for CS as it leaves out more fluid gameplay. I can't get over this. as a CSGO player, I like setting up and executing. It seems like with valorant once the round starts, you basically walk the entire map throw abilities and play angles. There is no flow/openess to the maps.
I don't mind the abilities at all. they give it a different feel and can lead to some cool set pieces. The feel of hitting a head shot and getting kills is really nice. CS match making has a big issue with 64 tick servers. Valorant has 128 tick and every shot feels like you hit it.
Competitively - I am not sure how far valorant can go. CS to me, is the best game to watch for competitive team gameplay. It's basic/simple to understand and moves pretty quickly with the 1.5 min rounds. Valorant is that way, but you rarely get "rushes" or fast executes. It's always walking and angle checking, which is fine, but as a viewer i prefer a littler more fast pace.
The game is great outside of my few issues and I'll continue to play it and probably play it even more once my friends can all get it. Until then though, I'll be playing a combination of CSGO, Overwatch then mix in valorant when the group of 5 i play with can get it.
