I'm dead. My son is posting for me, per my will. I told him to lay on the sarcasm, no one will know.

I've been watching the knicks for many many years even though I'm Canadian. I've been reading this board also for many years, been a fan of the NBA for as long as I can remember. I've always thought that to have a successful franchise you might want to go back and look at the history of the teams that have had success over the years. The one thing I've noticed, especially if they dominate in the playoffs and win titles is that they have a very strong defensive identity.

You can go back to the Celtics with Bill Russel, Bulls with Jordan/Pippen, the Spurs Duncan/Robinson, Lakers Bryant/O'neal, Cavaliers/Heat Lebron, Spurs/Raptors Kawhi and I could go on and on. If your best player is someone who plays good/great defence your chances of winning go up exponentially. The only times that teams won with a player who wasn't great on defence had 4 other guys who made up for them, for example the Heat with Wade (not bad but not great either) and Dallas with Dirk (who was a true 7 ft who was a pretty damn good rebounder.)

Also, if your a team that plays great defence you can be and remain at the top of the league even without a great player, the Raptors are a good example of this. Sure Kawhi put them over the top but they had an even better record when he didn't play, also since he left they're still a terrific team because they play outstanding team defence.

So I've always wondered when drafting or going the free agency route why a team wouldn't concentrate on someone who played on both sides of the ball. I think it's a pretty simple formula for winning in the NBA, give me guys who are good on offence but also play good to great defence.

Leon Rose can thank me later for the advice.

Jethro

PS I'll stir the pot a bit here with this. Porzingis is a guy who can win a championship in this league because he's the type of player that plays hard on both sides of the ball. He's exactly the type of player that the Knicks needed, too bad it had to end the way it did.

book is a monster. his FG% is way better than it should be. really good rebounder and passer. offensively everything you want in an SG.

if i were gonna take a one-sided player... it'd be this guy.

He's Harden 2.0 Eerily similar career trajectory.

It'd be ridiculous if we could somehow get Book in here.

Booker is def worth going in for, but I am not expecting him to be available anytime soon.
And not forget that he is on a max contract.

Here is my interpretation...It still doesn't sound like Perry will be here longterm. Sounds like is helping with the transition until we remake and assemble our front office which will take some time. Perry has the experience to assist, field calls, etc until that time. He has been thru a lot of drafts. It doesn't sound like someone that will have a big say in the decisions anymore though.

The Bulls already hired a new President from another team.

Other teams are making hires around the league.

I don't think time is what is needed. We're nearing 2 months since this hire came to be and over a month since corona prematurely ended the season. Scott Perry and Allan Houston are both good friends with Rose. This "hire my friends" scenario has been the Knicks MO for the last 20 years. Hell, Rose is a friend of Dolan's. Scott Perry isn't going anywhere.

This isnt stupid.... for once.

Considering all the chaos that is going to happen this draft because of no tournaments, it doesn't make sense to throw out the work Perry and his staff did up to now. Also most of the major L's of the last few years can be tied almost directly to Mills. Perry's FA wasn't great but we did flip Morris into a 1st, and in theory Rose will be leading FA going forward .

I am not saying Perry is a keeper but this is honestly the worst time possible to remove him.

I am skeptical too and am not sure what will happen, but will give Rose the benefit of the doubt. Rebuilding the front office is a huge task and probably won't happen overnight. Would rather see Rose do his due diligence and hire the right guy. Sounds like he brought in one of the most creative capologists in the league which is a good start. They did inquire about Arturas but he took a better position with the Bulls. Just from rumors, they have been asking around.

Mills has been the scapegoat for Perry's entire time here.

Dude is flat out bad drafter, look at ORL, look at NYK, he's a bad constructor of a team and last time I checked that's your main job.

Here's to get ridding rid of the last member of the 3 Stooges

Return to New York Knicks
