No picks until the fifth round or something like that?
Yep. They have a single fifth round pick, and then two picks in the early 200s. Sweet.

We can disagree with the picks but there is no reason to come after the player or give out dumbass nickname like Ai-Yuck. I trust Kyle and what he wants for his offense, everything I have seen is Aiyuk fits perfectly with our scheme and he is very similar to Sanders.

Re-reading my post, it comes off as more negative than I intended. I don't think his 4.5 is indicative, and I think he should be a good fit for our team. My bigger issue is how we're coming out of this round overall, and the fact that we only have three picks remaining. I'm cautiously optimistic about Aiyuk.
Also, I may have been too hard on Shanahan's scouting of WRs last night. Pettis is a headcase, but he can do what Shanahan thought he could on the field. That's more on the GM to find out than on the HC IMO.
I disagree with this viewpoint! He went on record saying that Ai-Yuck was his #1 rated receiver in this year’s class. Ahead of Ruggs, CeeDee Lamb, and Jerry Jeudy. That’s utterly ridiculous and sad to hear / witness. He’s stubborn and stuck on his ways...!
Shanahan has a huge influence on John Lynch in regard to player evaluations—type of receivers he wants based on his scheme. A GM de facto per se.
This is a fans perspective though. As a coach and a play caller, you get the guys that you want for your system and let the others keep their opinions.
The NFL simply did not view Lamb as the type of player that fans did as evidenced by his fall. I’ve seen Thats GM’s have commented on that this year saying just how wrong the boards and mock drafts were this year.

Michael Irvin kept harping on the fact that Jeudy and Lamb and Jefferson too scored most of their TDs from the slot.
So maybe Kyle was looking for pure outside WR, not a slot guy?
I don't think anyone is solely focusing on Aiyuk's 40 time. His game speed isn't particularly fast either. It's now slow; it's just not that fast.
Actually, it's the other way around. Scouting reports state that Aiyuk's game speed is faster than his 40 time. With some guys, Jerry Rice being the obvious example from the Niners, they tend to run faster with a ball in their hands and a DB chasing them than when they just line up to run a 40-yard dash. Scouts looking at his game film say he is fast; his 40 time says he isn't slow but not particularly fast.

Nick Bosa certainly surpassed my expectations, but I did say I thought he'd be better than Joey.
Again, I don't think Aiyuk will be a bad or even average WR. I think he'll be good. But I'm still probably gonna be pissed about the players who went after him.

CrimsonCrew wrote:Bingo, I think you're putting too much stock in what Shanahan says. Coaches and GMs always say that the guy they took was the top of their board, that they can't believe they got him, etc., etc. I'm not saying it's always a lie, but it certainly isn't always true, either. Ruggs was never a possibility for us, so we have no idea how Shanahan viewed him.

I didn't mind the selections but I hated that they gave away draft picks to move up to 25

Hey Crims. Hope all is well with you and the fam. Stay safe.
Yeah, I sorta agree with how coaches tend to fabricate things after the fact. However, history (Shanny’s in particular) has shown that his ratings of players is concerning. Pettis > Kirk; Deebo > A.J. Brown. There may be a kernel of truth to his statement in regard to his player evaluations (WRs).

We're doing as well as can be expected. Got three little ones at home now, including one who arrived in late February, so it's been a handful, but we're managing. Hope you're doing well too.
