I'm a bit puzzled by this pick. McKivitz is a tackle where we now have Williams, McGlinchey, Coleman and Skule. With RG an open competition (although I assume Brunskill will win the job) and Richburg coming off a bad injury, I would have thought picking an interior lineman would be a higher priority than another OT.

Maybe he can play guard.

No, Kwon is decent. But the Niners essentially have 3 starting CB spots. Witherspoon sucks; he should be a backup free safety.
He's the one who needs to be upgraded.

The Niners ideally should get someone to start opposite Sherm and use K'Wuan as the nickel guy. That makes the most sense when you have an entire offseason and round of FA to do that.

You have to strike while the iron's hot. I get building for the long term, but when you have your chance, you can't let it slip because you completely ignored a starting position or 2.

There's Dre Kirkpatrick. He's a lot better than Witherspoon. Aquib Talib might have some left in the tank...

Let's home someone pricey gets cut for cap reasons.

Maybe he can play guard.

He played one game at guard in 2018 and played the Senior Bowl at guard. All the rest of his games in 4 years of college has been as a Right Tackle. So when you say "maybe" he can play guard, that's a very big MAYBE.

I think anybody drafted in the 5th round is a big maybe

While that's true in general, I think drafting a guy based on a sample size of one game played is a much bigger "maybe" than typical. He must have looked unbelievably good in that one game, so good that his college coach didn't put him back at that position.

McKivitz himself doesn't know. In his interview, he said he does not know if the Niners want him to play OT or G as he didn't have contact with the team since the Combine.

We will need most of that to pay Trent Williams. He will restructure this last year on his contract but I'm sure he will eat up a good portion of that newly freed up $$.

Guys change positions on the line all the time. There is a transition, but it's not like they are asking him to play QB or defense.

He's got some decent blocks in this clip. Looks like Toilolo's replacement.

Lynch did nothing but bolster our roster this offseason. He gave away players that wouldn’t make the team, got draft picks in the process and dumped millions in cap space. People still doubt this guy?

Woerner's scouting report:

The good:
Good size and athleticism
Good hands
Very good perimeter blocker
Versatile (played H-back, end of line, outside, slot)

The not so good:
Goes down fairly easily on first contact
Not used much in passing game
Can get rag-dolled by strong edge rushers

He wasn't an every down player but we aren't counting on him to do that. If he has good hands and is a good blocker, sounds like he has the potential to be the upgrade over Dwelley that we were looking for to back-up Kittle.

Kittle wasn't used as a receiver in Iowa either
