I don't think Hayes will be there at #11 and no way OKC takes that offer for Paul.

Thanks for helping! Also, how far off do you think it is? I like Paul as a veteran to help the young guys develop.

I think they might be looking for a pick especially if they are taking on Randle. Paul would be a great vet presence but his contract is pretty bad. Just looking ahead, it might cap us out for the next 3 years so think i might look at other options. But if he is able to keep his p?ay up at this level it might not be bad

I'm warming to the idea of CP3 on this team, if he can be a mentor to a young PG that we draft, we could hold onto him and possibly move him into an assistant coach role in the future once his career is over, you need guys like this around the front office. Man but that contract even final year is 44mill player option 21/22

I wonder if RJ hampton stock falls and we can move up from 28 and grab him

IMO I think CP3 will be a Knick. Theres too much smoke. Rose's biggest client stuck in OKC now available to go to New York where tthey are looking for someone to put fans in the seats and make the franchise relevant again.
There are pitfalls to this, but I ultimately believe CP3 would have a positive impact on the franchise.

That 2021 player option is scary though. No doubt he wants his money, but I think there could be a "blend and extend" type of deal should NYK be in position to land a top notch FA.

From a financial standpoint if anyone is interested:
CP3 stands to make $44mil in 2021. I think it could be expected that coming off that contract he's going to look at a mid level exception level type deal for 3 years (3 years 33 mil) from a contender.
The Present Value of those 4 years at a 7% rate is $67 million.
Now you just need to solve what the equivalent contract would be for CP3 to earn the same amount of money from the Knicks but taking a significantly reduced amount in Year 1.
A contract starting at $17.5mil for 4 years get you to the same place. If Rose and CP3 are as close as I think they are this is something they could get done.

So the Knicks could open up $25.5mil of salary cap space in 2021.

Rough math but a roster consisting of:
RJ
Mitch
Frank/other (4/40mil contract)
CP3
2020 1st round pick
2021 1st round pick
2021 Dallas 1st round pick

would leave about 60mil in cap space. Could be enough to persuade multiple players to join

Paul wants to fight for a title. He doesnt want to be a rookie babysitter. If he comes to the Knicks, he may try to get out sooner as possible.

Besides OKC will not trade Paul unless they receive premium assets. Paul is playing really good and OKC dont need Cap Space (small market slow rebuilding team in a weak FA class).

I wanted Paul last year when I thought they'd have to give us a pick just to take on his terrible contract. If we give up assets for him we're idiots. I don't care how bad we need a PG

Chris Paul is a high risk high reward guy. He is such a wild card. He can be a all star guy but he is an injury away of being a cap space nightmare. We are far away of being a contender. There are no reason of a such move.

To make things worst, Chris Paul had a great last season. His price is up. He has already played more times on this shortened season (62) than he had played past 3 seasons (58 to 61). Everybody knows you must not buy a product with a unstable price when the price is up unless you are desperate.

yeah, but i also understand that he could set the team on a good course over those 2 seasons.

i'm not considering chris paul for Ws and Ls in the short term. i'm considering him for setting the on-court product right, regardless of his total number of games played. he adds value from the bench.

not saying it's the right idea, but i get it. this isn't just any vet. you look at what he did with that OKC group people counted out and think he could be great for your kids the same way.

i wouldn't want to part with significant assets to acquire him. but i'd consider it if OKC were looking for cap relief. like you say, we're not contending just yet. CP3 is an ultimate rebuild vet.
