Re: 2019-2020 College/Draft thread (Part 3)
Does anyone think there's any possibility the NBA would consider ending the regular season and counting only the total # of games up to the least # played by any particular team, as Hahn suggested, so every team has the same # of games played. That would put us higher in the lottery, which would be terrific. I wonder...

Better yet, allow us to declare bankruptcy forfeit them for a worse percentage! (kidding) Also lets' take some draft picks from those taker state teams like Miami and New Orleans.

That would be nice but I strongly believe that this won't happen. I can't see them just pretending that games that were actually played didn't happen and do away with the player stats from those games

I don’t think they have to cancel the games they could just use them for lottery standings.

They should honestly give the top 8 teams in the lottery the same odds if they’re going to end the season today. Would be totally fair.

Good point. In that case I’m all for it. I feel like there would be backlash as it would be viewed as the league trying to help us out or something. Not that I care, they should help us out already because damn

I think you could run a Barrett/Edwards back-court with the right perimeter defender at SF

I mean it’s hard to justify the standings are fair when some teams played 3 more games than others. Win or lose the teams that played less games would be lower by default.
Warriors would still be first in the draft. I don’t know the other teams situation but Hahn said we would move up to 5th. Also this would be pre-lottery so in the grand schemed things the knicks still got to luck up with ping pong balls.

I did the leg work on this
current draft order, games played, games taken away over 63rd game, new record
GS - 65 -2 14-49
Cle- 65 -2 18-45
Min- 64 -1 19-44
Atl- 67 -4 19-44
Det- 66 -3 20-43
NY- 66 -3 19-44
Chi- 65 -2 21-42
Cha- 65 -2 22-41
Was- 64 -1 24-39
Pho- 65 -2 25-38
SA- 63 -0 27-36
Sac- 64 -1 28-35
NO- 64 -1 27-36
POR- 66 -3 28-25
new order
1. GS - 14-49
2. Cle- 18-45
3-5. Min, Atl, NY 19-44
6. Det- 20-43
7. Chi- 21-42
8. Cha- 22-41
9. Was- 24-39
10.Pho- 25-38
11-12. SA, NO 27-36
13-14. Sac, POR - 28-35
differences:
Atl and NY move up from 4th and 6th to a 3 way tie for 3rd with Min, coin toss for order and 3 way split odds
Det down from 5th to 6th
NO up from a tie for 12th with Sac to a tie for 11th with SA, SA loses sole possession of 11th, coin toss for order and split odds
Sac down from tie for 12th to a tie for 13th with Portland, Portland up from 14th to tie for 13th, coin toss for order and split odds
This move would overwhelmingly benefit the knicks moving them from 6th to potentially 3rd. could be bad or good for the hawks, minor benefit for pelicans, blazers. minor loss to SA and Sac. loss for Detroit. could be a big loss for min.
This just seems like wishful thinking by NY sportswriters. The knicks, as usual, won 4 of their last 7 games and F'd themselves over. Tale as old as time.
Also, even if they did base it off 63 played games, I'm not sure it makes sense for it arbitrarily be the last games that they played that they don't count instead of any of the other games on the schedule that they played. Other than that whoever thought of it was trying to help the Knicks.

First this is great work!
Well of course the knicks mess up a tank. They had to squeeze as many wins out of their mercenary roster because they are perpetually stupid.
I don’t know if this is as much a stretch as you think for a few reasons.
1) Knicks are not the only team who could complain about the fact those additional last games played put them at a disadvantage. The pre lottery draft order is based on the worst record of 82 games. With our that possibility it should come down to a equal number of games.
2) All these additional coin flips would add additional drama leading up to the lottery and the NBA needs as much content as they can get. They can use the pre-flips to begin their draft coverage and make a televised event of it. Also they can test whatever system they want to do for the draft lottery ahead of time since meeting physically to do a flip won’t work.
3) The only team that it really hurts are DET and SAC who have to fall back one spot and even then this is before the lottery. They can both still move up 1-4.
4) it doesn’t effect the 1st or 2nd pre lottery odds so GS and Cleveland won’t complain about it. A few other teams aren’t effected either. The only team that takes a automatic step back by this move by default is DET and SAC

Assuming you mean 27, then it depends on who falls to us 1st. If it's a point, then small forward Tyler Bey would be my pick, if a big like Obi or ONYEKA OKONGWU, gets picked, then Kira Lewis , Cassius Stanley or Tre Jones with the 27th pick.
Josh Green from Arizona looks like a sleeper pick as well.

You do realize that the #1 pick gets around $12m for 4 years. You really think the Warriors are gonna pay Wiseman $12m/4 as an unfinished product and with their cap issues. Remember there are no a Luka or Zion in this draft.
