Why is Obi Toppin's stock so high? I just saw a mock with him going #4 overall? That's crazy to me. He's a bigman that can't anchor a defense and obviously he can't create his own shot.
I don't know how anyone could even consider a big ahead of Okongwu.

Re: 2019-2020 College BBall/2020 NBA Draft Vol 1

Alonzo Verge - 6'3" 167
- 73.7% free throw
- 2.8% steal, 0.4% block
- 18.8% assist
Positives:
Top tier handle and shotcreation. Decent mid-range shooter with a passable shooting profile. Decent point of a attack defender.
Negatives:
Physically weak. No established range on his jumper. Distributing skills are below par for his position.

I hate to invoke De'Aaron Fox's name every time there's a skinny, quick guy that can defend the point of attack and create his own shot at a high level, but Verge has some Fox to his game.

Obi Toppin's stock is extremely confusing to me and feels media driven because he's a big dunker and averaged 20ppg.
I'm willing to expose myself bad takes retribution, but he has all of the makings to be a bust from this draft.

Re: 2019-2020 College BBall/2020 NBA Draft Vol 1
He'll probably be a cross between John Collins and Montrezl Harrell. Strong screen and roll finisher (both). Maybe some shooting range (Collins). Bad on the glass (Harrell) and won't anchor a defense (both).
Taking him in the second half of the 1st round is fine, but taking him in the range where you're hoping to find a franchise player seems crazy.

Can you adjust your shooting mechanics on the fly in the NBA or do you need a stint in the G-League away from the spotlight?
Because Paul Reed is an interesting case. His defense is plug and play but that hitch in his jumpshot is awful. He could really use a teardown/buildup process to his shooting.

Re: 2019-2020 College BBall/2020 NBA Draft Vol 1
I think the thought process for Obi is that Kuzma was a 66% FT shooter in his best year at Utah and a 32% 3FG on low volume which lends to Obi eventually being a "better" Kuzma. He's better in almost every shooting percentage and is more athletic.
If you think Obi can be a better Kuzma and is worth a top 5 pick, then by all means. But what is not factored into this equation is that Kuzma is a complete anomaly as a fringe third option.

Definitely agree. He almost hit that elusive 2 spg 2 bpg season stat that everyone loved to bring up about Thybulle the year prior. The difference was Reed averaging 15 a game and 10 rebounds. I think he'll be picked too high to be stashed in the G-League, but I do agree he needs some time to fix that shot.
If he falls farther than Thybulle got picked, I'll be very confused. After the season Brandon Clarke had, I think people are enamored by that type of prospect.

Elite defense, elite distributing. Elite free throw shooting. Killian Hayes is a perfect basketball player.

I've seen anywhere from late-20s to early 40s for Reed. Without pre-draft workouts, he could be a guy that slips to the 2nd round.
Unfortunately, I think he'll be too valuable defensively to send to the G-League for more development. Matisse, for example, could have used this entire season to work on his jumper in the G-League. But he's too good defensively for Brett to part ways with. So Reed could be a victim of his own defensive talent, in regards to his inability to set aside time to develop his jumper.

Arizona's Josh Greens seems like another likely Sixers pick.
Australian kid. Good defender, good athlete, good size, nice shooting stroke. Not much by the way of creation upside, though.

@Negro
Is Ashton Hagans an ass? Not sure I'd want a guy like this in my lockerroom.

He’s an incredible defender, but really didn’t do much offensively for us. I don’t think he had the equity to call shots at Calipari despite being a soph. His form is not broken and he shoots like 80% from FT.
I wouldn’t be interested in him. Feel like he should have been a CB instead of trying to go pro in basketball.

Yeah, between he and Tre Jones, I think I strongly prefer Jones.
Better kid, better shooter.

If Cole Anthony is realistically slipping I'd put 22nd and 34th to trade up for him, easily the best outcome for the 76ers on draft night

Given Brett Brown's sensibilities, I think it's more likely that we trade up for one of Haliburton, Vassell, or Green.
I don't think the team is interested in going through the growing pains of a teenage offensive star. We're probably putting a heavy emphasis on getting a capable defender that can play crunchtime minutes on a playoff team.

Anthony is a capable defender already with pull-up god upside

Re: 2019-2020 College BBall/2020 NBA Draft Vol 1
His jumper needs a lot of work and he's a really bad finisher right now. Being a capable defender and willingly applying your capabilities consistently are much different things. Anthony was a bad defender this year. Especially once conference play rolled around. I'm not sure how ready he is to help a winning team.
Besides, Anthony should go in the lottery based on his offensive upside. I doubt he slips past #10.

Theo Maledon and Deni Avdija seem overrated.

Have we discussed this dude? Pretty impressive defender and was a decent scorer albeit in garbage competition.
