He was from NJ, yes, but the team's relocation in Brooklyn doesn't make it that too far from there.

He grew up a Knicks fan.

Yeah but too bad the knicks are a laughingstock nowadays.

KAT is one of those Central Jersey Knick fans, those dudes are pretty diehard, plus I think he wants to play with D'Angelo Russell so he may stick around in Minnesota. We got lucky that Kyrie fell in love with the Nets during the Kidd era, I think at that time we were outnumbered by Knick fans in the state substantially.

Yes we were, and that was the genesis of my handle. As a kid, growing up less than 3 miles from the Meadowlands, I still remember being the only Nets fan in my grade. A ton of Knick fans. Loads of Bulls & Lakers fans. No Nets fans.

I think a lot of the problem was due to the fact that for years (pre-YES), the Nets (& Devils) were on Sports Channel which required a premium subscription, where as MSG was on basic cable. Most were not paying for premium sports channels back then. In the pre-digital era, there were not so legal, little black boxes that were capable of descrambling signals of premium channels. If you knew who had them, you could watch Sports Channel (amongst other things) for free.

My dad had a black box back then so I grew up watching the Nets on SportsChannel  we used to watch boxing and wrestling PPVs for free too

Honestly when you look back at the Nets' time in New Jersey, the franchise sabotaged itself so much which led to the Knicks and Sixers taking up most of the basketball fandom in the state. Playing in an inaccessible arena, not being on regular cable television...it's really no wonder why we don't have a big fanbase.

A successful playoff run next season with KD will change the shape of this fanbase overnight.

The Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets are expected to join the New York Knicks in pursuing Tom Thibodeau this offseason.

The Nets fired Kenny Atkinson in March, while the Rockets are widely expected to part ways with Mike D'Antoni.

Thibodeau would have interest in any of the three jobs, but the Knicks are expected to be in the lead as they can pursue him before the Nets and Rockets as they won't be in the playoffs.

The Minnesota Timberwolves fired Thibodeau in January of 2019.

Thoughts on Thibs? I'm leaning more towards D'Antoni to be honest.

I'd be down for Thibs as long as his time away from the game gave him a new perspective on certain aspects of the game. Doubtful though.

As for D'Antoni, I'd be 100% down if he comes with a defensive specialist as his assistant coach.

Dear God no on both of them . Thibs will run our players to the ground and force KD and Kyrie into early retirement. D'Antoni is proven he can't win even with some of the better players. He doesn't give a crap about defense. Man I wish Kenny was still here. Get someone new with fresh ideas, not these dinosaurs that's stuck in their ways.

Thibs sucks, and is a basketball dinosaur in this era. MDA is realistically the best hire we could make. An elite coach who would have won championships if not for some bad luck. He's a pioneer of modern NBA style, and understands analytics driven offense. If Rockets don't retain him, he'll easily be the best free agent option available.

I got to agree...^

Best case scenario....The season resumes and Jacque gets a fair shot with Ky and KD

I'm also warming up to Kidd

We definitely have enough offensive firepower. It's the defensive end that we need to tighten up on.

No to Thibs and MDA. Both run their players into the ground.

This is how I envision KD’s game to look next season. Very few hard drives to the basket. A lot of pin down screens near the elbow.

We need a coach who won’t be against the mid range shot.

Yes to either D'Antoni or Thibs. My preference is D'Antoni, but Thibs is more likely. It wouldn't surprise me if the next coach was somebody with Team USA ties. Both fit the bill, but D'Antoni coached when only KD was on the team. Thibs was an assistant coach the year KD, Kyrie and DeAndre were all on the team together. There may be a relationship there we're not aware of.

I keep looking at that Team USA roster to try to find another player that may be a superfriends target. The ones that pop out for fit (as wings) are Butler, DeRozan and Barnes.

KD and Kyrie will be taking mid range shots. I have zero worries about that. they will take what the defense gives them.

This is how I'm leaning as well. Thibs' style runs afoul of what Marks and the training staff have implemented where player health comes first and foremost. MDA has been around the league yes but he doesn't have a dinosaur mentality and he's willing to try new things. The only concern is obviously he doesn't give a damn about defense.

Too bad we can't hire them both lol. MDA for offense and Thibs for defense.

The Thibs runs his players into the ground narrative is ridiculous. His top players did not average that many more minutes per game than most teams' star players, including KD & Kyrie on their former teams. The question should be why, in an era of chartered flights, fewer back to backs, etc. are we so concerned about 32 vs 36 minutes per game, when guys like Michael Jordan & even the of injured Vince Carter consistently played about 38 mpg during their primes. Even lumbering bigs like Patrick Ewing played 37+ mpg. It's easy to scapegoat the coach, but most of his former players had a strong relationship with him. Many star players don't want to have their minutes limited, and it's not unprecedented that players, especially in previous eras, pay a ton of minutes.

Why is it that years later, the Bulls have still had recurrent injury issues, even with guys that never played under Thibs? Some players are simply injury-prone. Maybe they pinch pennies on their training staff?

Frankly, I also don't care about the back-end of their careers. Do we really expect KD to be here until retirement? If Seattle ever get another team, I expect him to immediately go back. I could also see him close out his career in DC or OKC. Get every minute you can out of him over these 3 years, and don't worry about 35 year old KD.

thibs seems extremely unlikely. he is not a star friendly coach

D'antoni is more that, but he wants too much input on offensive style

ty lue or mike brown make much more sense

I like D'Antoni more, but why is Thibs not a star friendly coach? He had very good relationships with Butler & Rose. He was an assistant coach on Team USA. What makes him not star friendly?

If kat ever decides on which next team he'll play for bet. the two just in case, i think he'll still have a better future in bkn. And it's intrigues me to see him play in their uniform.

There was a player poll last year and Thibs was literally voted 'coach I'd least want to play for'

Whether you like him as a coach or not, he's not a likeable guy, he's a perfectionist, runs hard practices mid season, plays guys heavy minutes, and is really stubborn. Not exactly the guy you'd envision for a veteran team.

A player poll with only 52 respondents that were not allowed to vote for their own coach. In all likelihood, the respondents were likely fringe or young players that have never actually dealt with Thibs or most of the coaches in the league. Very robust data set.

Do you guys think we're kind of at a disadvantage here in terms of the season restarting? I doubt Cuomo is going to allow the Nets and Knicks to open up training facilities (nor should he, it's still too soon). The Nets will need to relocate the team and training staff to an isolated location.

I need to see what the NBA's plan is. One player getting sick will derail everything. Personally, on the human side, I feel like pushing players back out to play while the infection numbers and deaths are still climbing is a horrific idea. I would have cancelled the season.

Also, if we do get the season resumption, do we see KD and Kyrie suit up? Both are 100% now. I see no reason for them not to play if the conditions are safe enough for play to resume.

Considering that training facilities were supposed to be opening tomorrow, things are quiet too quiet.
