Taking a break from all things Nioh for a few days after I spent an hour respec-ing a build and inexplicably seeing my DPS drop 75%. I have no idea why.

Anyway, picked up God of War again for a NG+ and it's even better looking than I remember. It's hard for me to envision a game looking better, though I assume we'll see it by this time next year.

Oh, and yea, my PS4 Pro does sound like a jet engine. Seems to be the only one in my library that can crank it up like this.

OMG the Cait Sith cameo was 10/10.

My friend is like 400+ hours into the new FF already lol. I’ve never played one of them before but that blows my mind.

He’s a competitive speed runner and recently got Square Enix to “sponsor” him and give him a free copy of the games so he’s basically just streaming that whenever he isn’t teaching (he’s an English teacher). Apparently he’s had a lot of free time since the game was released lol. I don’t really get it personally but he makes a decent amount of money off it every month so -shrugs-

I already wrapped up Shadow of War. I am not messing with its long Shadow Wars endgame for the alternate ending.

Pillars of Eternity was what I planned to play next, but I'm not sure I'm feeling it. Part of me thinks I should stick it out, but I'm having a hard time enjoying its mechanics after playing Divinity: Original Sin 2. It just feels...dated. I know it is an homage to old Infinity Engine games, but I think D:OS 2 modernized the cRPG to such a degree it's hard to ignore.

Are you playing 1 or 2? PoE2 is so much better than 1. It feels far less clunky, though still definitely old-school, early 2000s CRPG.

The first game. It's tough because I would like to get the sequel at some point, but both games are only going to get harder to play in the future with new cRPGs like Baldur's Gate 3 coming soon.

While I disagree, I get where you're coming from. I'm so glad games like these are still made (or made again, after the re-renaissance), though I'm not super confident they'll continue to be. I know most people agree with you, and PoE2 sold really poorly despite being excellent (IMO, obviously).

Alright, I need someone that knows computer parts better than I do to help me out. I'm looking at finally owning a gaming PC for the first time since I was a kid. I've narrowed it down to two setups that are basically the same price and same specs with the only real difference being the memory.

One has a 1TB PCIe SSD. The other has a 1TB 7200RPM + 512GB PCIe SSD. Which do you think is better or are they basically the same too?

Need more information if you want to try to breakdown which SSD is better, since they have the same base memory system.

If don't want to get into the minutia of one brand/line compared to another, then it really just comes down to if you want/need a straight-SSD or a hybrid. What are you using the PC for? If it's for pure gaming, how much/many games do you need saved in SSD storage at a time?

You want the games to be on your SSD when you're playing them. But games you aren't playing, if you want to keep them installed, you can move to HDD. You can also store music, TV, movies safely on an HDD - makes no difference. But you'll want your OS, photos/videos for processing or editing...basically any intensive task-related data on your SDD.

Not sure if that helps or not, but basically if you think you need more than 500GB of SSD space, then the decision above might be made for you.

ETA: I have a 500GB SSD + 2TB HDD (many thanks to j for the HDD hookup!). I have a boatload of photos and videos, in addition to some TV I like to have stored, so my HDD is filled-up. But I will say I wish I had more SSD space. It's on my list to upgrade and I wish I would have spent the money from the get-go since prices are more expensive now than when I built. I've got alerts setup on 2TB deals.

Thanks! They're both setups from Lenovo; one is part of their Legion T530 series and the other is part of the C530 Cube series. My dad works pretty closely with Lenovo so he has access to a nearly 50% off their prices until the end of the month so it seems like a good time for me to finally take the plunge.

It would likely be purely for gaming; I already have my own laptop for photos/Excel projects and whatnot that I do plus the laptop that my work provides so I don't really NEED the PC for anything else. Based on what you're saying, it sounds like it might make sense for me to just go with the 1TB SSD then? That was the option my dad was in favor of as well. I haven't really kept up with the times as far as knowing all these parts go haha. I probably would have understood this stuff better back when I was like 10 than I do now :D

Got it. So yeah, with pre-built systems I'm not sure you can really to the "analysis", so to speak, to see which SSD might be faster. Like how much faster is a Samsung EVO 860 vs. Intel 660P, or whatever. So it's more just a question of space and need.

And yes, I'd encourage you to go pure SSD given your setup with other PCs and intent for this one. My two cents, but I think that's what makes the most...sense (cents?).

I didn't know jack about this stuff 2 years ago. I built a PC when I was 17 and headed to college, but that was over 15 years ago. Had been a Mac user and console gamer since. There was a learning curve but got a ton of help from folks here and at Reddit. I'm not an expert but do know much more now and try to keep up now, too, since I've made three upgrades since my build (one major, two minor).

It's exciting to see it come together, I'd imagine so even if you're doing the research on a pre-built. Enjoy!

When I was growing up, literally as early as I can remember we had like 4 or 5 PCs set up in our basement and we all played Quake, Unreal Tournament, Soldier of Fortune, and some other games like Command and Conquer and Deer Hunter together. But probably by the time I was a teenager we got our first console and I never touched a PC again after that; it's literally probably been 15 years since I've played a legit game on a PC/laptop.

Golf Club 2019 is free to play for a week on Steam. I took the day off (not because of this, lol) and played for a couple hours this afternoon. Pretty fun, good looking, solid controls, but only six courses. I played through them all, with a round of 18 only taking 20-30 mins. There's also no licensed players.

I miss the old Tiger Woods or Links games that had like 15-20 courses. I mean, there's a course creator mode, but even the best courses from that kind of thing just don't ever end up integrating as well into games.

So anyway, pretty fun. Download it if you like golf and play for a week, but I can't imagine wanting to play more than that.

Man in college we used to play Tiger Woods 2009-2011 nonstop, such a fun game. Going to download this so thanks for the heads up.

I suppose I should clarify that I poorly worded that I won't have time to dedicate to playing Pillars when a newer game like Baldur's Gate 3 comes out, not that the existence of BG3 invalidates Pillars as a good game. I think I'm just not jiving with the Infinity Engine style of real-time combat (I prefer turn-based games), so I'm just going to shelve if for now and try again later. Another month or two won't make a difference in the five years I've owned it haha.

I think I'm going to try to play Hollow Knight or try to reacquaint myself with Monster Hunter World. A replay of Super Mario Odyssey sounds kind of good to me as well. If none of those captivate me, I'm sorely tempted to buy Red Dead Redemption 2.

Assuming it works the same way on PC as it does on console, there’s a ton of amazing courses you can download. The database of courses that people have created is the best part of the game.

What I couldn't figure out/didn't like is how to integrate those courses into the career mode. It seems you're stuck to those six courses only, which is very little variety. Am I missing something?

Had me wanting to play Hot Shots Golf again, though. I downloaded PS Now this morning to play one of the old entries :D

Assuming it works the same way on PC as it does on console, there’s a to. If amazing courses you can download.

You can definitely add them into your career mode. I haven’t played it in a while so I don’t remember exactly how but there’s a way to customize your schedule, customize the competing golfers, etc. I ended up using like 30 other PGA Tour courses and added like the top 200 ranked golfers to play against.

Edit: I’m without my PS4 for like a week so I can’t verify it myself. It’s possible I’m thinking of offline societies but I could have sworn I was able to do it in the PGA Tour mode.

Just started NG+ and I'm questioning why I play videogames and life in general.
