For everyone talking about “take Obi”. I want to counter with the 2009 NBA draft (aka the last legit PG draft)

Everybody knew that was a PG/guard draft. However the Knicks after missing on their two main targets (Ricky Rubio and Steph Curry), had what I assume was a tantrum and chose the PF Jordan Hill over DeMar Derozan, Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holiday, Jeff Teague, and Darren Collison. If the Knicks had just picked a PG (or even a guard like Derozan) we would have likely been better overall for the next few years but they went after a PF in a PG/G draft.

Now Obi isn’t Jordan Hill he’s a better player, but we need a PG, and it’s a PG draft..... Let the Wolves or Cavs who are good a PG go after the scoring PF. Obi is hella nice but I don’t think he’s the move right now.

Just grab a PG who can actually play PG.

With all the talk of the Knicks having three point guards and four power forwards, Coach David Fizdale introduced a new wrinkle on Wednesday.

He wants one of the team’s power forwards – former Kentucky standout Julius Randle – to play some point forward while also leading the revamped team.

“He may arguably be our most versatile player,” Fizdale said after practice at the Knicks Tarrytown, N.Y facility. “He brings the ball up for us. He’s going to play a lot of point forward, especially when he rebounds it.

“He can post you, he can play off the elbow. I think he’s an underrated passer. Going back to his film now and he does a lot of stuff to help his teammates and he makes good plays. He understands the challenge that I’m putting to him is leadership, defense and making his teammates better.”

It's the same thing with THJ, we demanded too much out of overpaid role players and tried to make them something they aren't. THJ wasn't even bad on Dallas last year because he was put in an appropriate role for his skill set so he could stay within his comfort zone and lo and behold he was an integral part of a winning basketball team and shot a career high from 3

I can’t agree more....

Which is why doing something drastic to remove him is stupid. He isn’t a bad player, he just does t fit the role we want him too. Same thing happened with THJ. In the case of Randle he is a finisher, and not someone who instigated the offense unless it’s in transition. Paying him to be what he wasn’t and forcing the offense to treat him like can fill that position is why he’s failing here.

Obi will be a dinosaur in the NBA. He won't impact winning and will be stuck in positional no man's land.

Too big and not versatile enough to play the 4, not a good enough defender to play the 5. He just screams career loser.

He and Lamelo are the two obvious busts in this draft (to me).

Yea, it is 100% the Knicks own fault. Randle and THJ are who they are and can be good on the right team/situation. I think the Knicks tried too hard to manufacturer stars and justify the signings....especially with Randle. They needed a face of the team and Mills needed to come up with something in free agency.

Randle is just a horrible fit here. We really need to try to move on.

Randle might be my *least favorite Knick in recent years

he's a terrible fit w/ RJ and Mitch and will impede their growth if he stays

Randle is a scorer and rebounder Big. He sucks at playmaking and outside shooting. The new NBA barely needs these kind of players. He makes his team worst because the lack of spacing.

He needs to play as a center in the paint. But center is more needed as a rim protector, what Randle is not. He only can works if there another rim protector big who shoots 3 to defend the paint and can space the floor when attacking .

You also need a PG to keep him from being an initiator of offense and put him in his proper role as a finisher. Without that he is going to continue to do to much.

1st in the entire league in 3 pointers made
1st in the entire league in 3 pointers attempted
Tied for 4th/5th in the entire league in 3 point percentage at .376%

We had the blueprint for success but it was an older roster with a small window of opportunity. The way we won games though was we had an iso scorer, a 1/5 pick and roll and 3 point shooters. It was simple and it worked. Whatever we've been trying since then hasn't and won't work so all this bully ball nonsense and not putting an emphasis on shooting needs to end. Go back to not only what has worked for us in the past but what continues to work for other teams currently.
