Jared Savage, anybody? 6'5 with what looks like a 6'10 (+?) wingspan and good athleticism. Came away really impressed with his shooting form. 84% from charity stripe to go along with 39% from 3 on 160+ attempts.

blk% = 3.5
stl% = 2.1

1 of 12 players in the country to record 201 rebounds, 31 blocks, and 33 steals, apparently, which are very specific numbers.

Here's a clutch shot with a better look at his form:

Apparently he went on a nice little run as well:

Has Buddy ever been that level of defender?

Yeah I definitely have Ramsey in my top 10. His offensive numbers are depressed by Texas Tech’s slow pace (plus the overall team was weaker than it’s been in the last couple years, like Zhaire Smith was able to play off of Culver and this year’s team has nobody even comparable). Also his volume and percentage on three-point shots for his age are more than enough for me to overlook his free throw percentage, at least enough for me to say he’ll be a decent shooter in addition to being plenty explosive for a 2-guard.

Decided to look into Ramsey a little more.

Only 9 freshman in the entire country racked up a 2.5 BLK% and 2.5 STL%...

Among those names were Scottie Lewis and Patrick Williams.

He's the only freshman to put up those numbers and shoot over 40% from 3 this year.

...

Decided to expand the search back to 2008 (as far back as barttovik lets you go) to see how much of an anomaly his numbers are.

list of freshman posting a 2.5 BLK% + 2.5 STL% + shooting 40% from 3 (13 players):

robbie hummel
gordon hayward
justise winslow
tyrese haliburton
glen rice
kevon looney
jah'mius ramsey
dimitri batten
paul george
larry nance jr. (3-7 attempts)
elijah minnie
jaren lewis
shawn johnson

if you filter it down even more by adding at least 100 3PA, you get 6 players (ranked by BPM):

hayward
winslow
haliburton
ramsey
batten
george

Quinton Rose from Temple looks like an interesting wing to take a flyer on late in the draft. Overall, his numbers don't pop out, but I can see him in a limited role as a bench 3&D wing if he can develop a corner 3.

6'8 / 190 lbs. / 6'8.5 wingspan

23.9 ast%
1.5 a/to
79 ft%
3.4 stl%
2.4 blk%

Some fun facts about Anthony Edwards:

Using the filters below, I sought to see how many players in NCAA (high-major only) could replicate Edwards' defensive production.

Code: Select all

Usage ≥ 27; Games Played ≥ 5; Def Reb % ≥ 14; Block % ≥ 1.5; Steal % ≥ 2.2; Height ≥ 72; Height ≤ 80; Class = Fr; Conf = High Major;

Here's what I found (in order of D-PRPG*)

1. Marcus Smart
2. Zion Williamson
3. Terrence Jones
4. James Harden
5. Josh Jackson
6. Anthony Edwards
7. Markelle Fultz

notes

> Edwards' 3PR is by far the highest on this list at 48.6% w/ Smart at 35% and Harden at 29%

> Edwards' has the lowest block @ 1.6% w/ Harden and Smart just above at 2.2%

...

Next, I wanted to see how many other freshman matched Edwards' USG% and 3PA.

Code: Select all

Usage ≥ 27; Games Played ≥ 5; 3P att. ≥ 225; Class = Fr; Conf = High Major;

Five made the list (in order of 3PR; 3P% in parentheses):

1. Mike Rosario (.302)
2. Trae Young (.361)
3. Anthony Edwards (.291)
4. D'Angelo Russell (.411)
5. R.J. Barrett (.308)

notes

> Edwards' O-Rtg is 103 as compared to Barrett's 108. Not bad when you consider he didn't play next to a Zion and Reddish.

> Makes you wonder what Edwards' 3P% looks like at a USG rate closer to 20 at the next level and 3PR closer to 30 than 48. For comparison, Steph Curry registered a 3PR of 56 @ Davidson in his sophomore year.

But it is bad.

Edwards chose to take a lot of these lazy 3's, though. He always has played like that, whether it was AAU or college. Essentially, if you see him to dramatically lower his 3PAr there's a good chance that's because he didn't pan out as hoped as he had to change his approach to the game to fit in. And if that's the case, he probably wasn't worth the top pick.

I saw it in the other thread. A lot of people probably have an issue with his potential but he's so advanced as a big that he's an easy fit for most personnel groupings. Every team in the top 10 can use Okongwu, it's all about do they want to draft him.

Most definitely. My concern is just his size. It's far easier to get away with being 6'9 w/ a 7'1 w/s in the NCAA. Honestly can't think of many effective starting centers with comparable size at the next level. I think he fits with certain teams, but generally I question if he can even be a starter, and if he can't be, I don't think he's the Harrell, Kanter, or Olynyk type.

Noticed Toppin put 18 points on 11 attempts and 9 boards vs. Kansas... in 40 minutes played.

List of Toppin's opponents. Won't be that easy in the NBA, young fella. I think Kansas, Colorado, and Georgia are the only ones who have NBA prospects on this list.

Jared Savage needs more love, guys.

3.2 BLK% and 2.6 STL % versus top 100 competition while playing on WKU. 18% DReb%.

39% 3-pt shooter. Absolute sniper from outside.

Yeah, this dude popped for me while watching Bassey tape. Have not heard his name at all on draft twitter, pretty strange. Seems to be a solid seasoned 3&D type in the vein of Desmond Bane/Skylar Mays.

Yeah, it's weird. I guess TCU and LSU are bigger programs than WKU. That's probably a factor. Also, Savage had a pretty low USG rate. I think it was around 11-12 so maybe there's just not enough exposure.

Another thing that pops out to me about him is rim-protection potential. Dude has good hops and made some nice blocks in the tape I watched.

He's 23, seems not to have drastically improved and played a mediocre schedule. Not surprising that he's not being talked about a lot. I mean, where do you rank him? If it's not in the first round, it's really not surprising that people don't talk about him much.

D-PIPM numbers for bigs

Image

Honestly didn't expect Carey to be that high but his trend dips in conference play as well as Achiuwa's but not as much.

Tillman's progression leveled off around the 70th game so I think he is what he is... which is pretty damn good.

Look at UA's trend still skyrocketing.

Okongwu showing some steady, but small progression towards the end. Dipped a little around beginning of conference play, but looks like he adjusted.

Stewart and Oturu's defensive ceiling isn't very high, comparatively.

Also, Carey's O-PIPM trend is by far the best followed by Tillman and Smith (pretty close here.)

Jalen Smith also showing some nice steady progression. Sort of mirrors Okongwu's progression line.

Not pictured, but I really wish Queta would have came out. His D-PIPM #s absolutely dwarf Okongwu's even post-injury. Special big.

Trevelin Queen's PIPM is crazy. Never thought it would be as high as it is when looking into him.

Also, Ayayi's PIPM kills Lewis Jr.'s and Anthony's. I've always questioned my decision to put Ayayi so high on my board, but this is just more evidence that he should be higher on everyone's board. Think he translates to the NBA a little better than some of the other guards.
