There is reportedly a "belief around the league" that teams currently out of the postseason picture will not resume play this season.

An unnamed "front office executive" told The Ringer, "[T]he thought is that the league won’t have the time or resources to bring all 30 teams to one location and play out the regular season." The logistics are easier when 16 teams are involved, compared to 30, and teams without immediate championship aspirations might even prefer to sit it out. According to one Eastern Conference assistant coach, "Our players have an itch to get back on the court, but the organization prefers they not return and risk injury when we are already looking ahead to next season."

Makes sense. I hope this leads to them rolling the records back so they are even and the knicks move to a three way tie at #3

Do teams 1 game out of the 8th spot get to continue to play? What about 4 games? Where do you draw the line?

Article seems to indicate the teams already in playoff position. I think that's the only way to do it, though it screws teams on the cusp and unduly rewards teams just hanging onto the 8th spot, but that's the way it is.

As a Knick fan, watching the "top 16" finish out the season isn't that interesting to me, but I guess it's good for the fans of those other 16 franchises

I just don’t see them continuing the regular season. They might as well do the playoffs, speed through it and crown a champion.

Also if they can maybe do the draft lottery in the same time since those teams won’t participate.

I guess if I had to contract 6 teams and this is totally off the cuff here
sacramento
memphis
clippers and nets (only one team per city)
orlando
new orleans
and move okc back to seattle

restructure the remaining 24 teams into 2 conferences with 3 divisions of 4 teams each

do the playoffs with 3 division winners and 3 wild card teams, similar structure to the nfl playoffs. 2 best teams get a first round bye. to get the 3 wild card teams, the best record who didn't win the division is automatically in as the 4th seed 1st WC team, and then have two one game play-ins with the next 4 teams to determine the 5th and 6th seed. first wild card round is best of 3. semis conference finals and finals are best of 7. ultimately 12 teams make the playoffs and 12 don't. cancel the draft lottery entirely and go by record.

reduce the regular season to 60 games. 4 games against the other 3 teams in your division, 3 games against the other teams in your conference, and 2 against the teams in the other conference

also rename the 2 conferences something else instead of "eastern" and "western" it already doesn't make a lot of sense

I guess we better wait an extra year to do this or the warriors would get the 1st pick in the cosolidation draft and take zion or kawhi

I wonder who would fall to us at 6th I imagine zion kawhi kd kyrie paul george and ja would come off the board pretty early. maybe we can get fox from sacramento lol

It’s worth noting that the people in the front office that are interested in Wood are the people that were here before Leon Rose came on board. So I highly doubt we are going after him and that is a good thing

I don’t think this is going to change things for the other players. They didn’t even reach out to players on the majority of teams.

I don't know he put that article out after Rose got brought on. I always thought it was Rose he was speaking about. I mean Wood was whupping everyone's but before the suspension happened.

So the article doesn't say outright because no other fanbase will ever say it outright, but beyond the money, they speak about Wood's fit here. On the low, we got a better roster than Pistons right now and Wood might like the idea of playing with Mitch and RJ.

I like that, I kind of hope we start to hear about FA coming here to join the team we have more than..... I want to bring NY back.
