NBA Poised To Lose $900M In National TV Money Alone If Playoffs Canceled

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri May 15, 2020 4:38 pm

The NBA will lose approximately $900 million in national television revenue from the playoffs alone if they cancel the remainder of the season, sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic

The NBA hopes to create a "campus-like" environment to resume the season to at least play the playoffs.

The NBA signed a nine-year, $24 billion television deal with ESPN and TNT in 2014 that reshaped the league's finances.

So $30M per team assuming it’s all split equally. Guess they got to weigh that against the costs of creating and running the bubble environment.

They are already going to lose money whether they have playoffs or not. Already not getting gate receipts.
But they are saving money by not having to pay players and staff. Not paying travel etc..
NBA is not as profitable as it looks outside of the few large market teams. So incremental loses for most teams probably wont be that large
