I thought SGA had some nice upside and liked him a lot. Similiar stats, but those stats really dont tell the story since there games are different. SGA can create offense better which is huge for upside in a guard. Plus i really liked how SGA played down the stretch and in the tournament's..was avg 20ppg.
Unfortunately, we didn't see Hali down the stretch. He was never really aggressive enough in college, and wasnt great at creating his own shot...not good at shooting off the dribble. Think that may limit his scoring. Great catch and shoot shooter, and am buying his jumper.
But again, i do like him and never know. Just wouldbt expect a star or SGA
SGA is more dynamic as a scorer but they both were lanky big guards with a lot of craftiness in their games. So we’ll see what happens. But my point still stands, he wasn’t really seen as a player with star upside, other wise he wouldn’t have fell out of the top 10. Don’t know if Haliburton will be the same way but I wouldn’t count him out imo.
We all would rather have a dynamic scoring PG that can also pass but the reality is that there’s no guy in our range that can do that. Haliburton is still a big upgrade at point for us so I’ll take it. Beggars can’t be choosers
There were people that liked SGAs upside. Players fall all the time though.
Again, i like Hali and would take him. Not counting him out at all. He brings a lot of things we can use. Just a different game then SGA is all. I wouldnt expect him to avg 19ppg in the nba, although you never know.

RJ says Frank's his favorite back court mate. Young man is a terror on defense and getting better, why are we sweating it.
Then just get the best player available in this year's draft.

This is why the SGA comps don’t make sense to me. I definitely can buy the Lonzo comps but SGA is an attacking guard. As a rookie he averaged 10 drives per game. He averaged one less drive per game than Kyrie. Last season he was 16 Per game. That’s good enough to put him in the top 10. I can’t track down drives per game in the NCAA but I doubt Haliburton’s number would be that high.
I don’t know about the drive metic but Haliburton played 36.7 mpg and only averaged 2 FT attempts per game with a .184 FTA rate (ft attempts / fg attempts) , SGA in college averaged 4.7 ft attempts in 33 mpg (5.0 per 36) and .464 FTA rate so that is more than enough to validate that theory imo.
Frank’s is .172
You just taught me how to use free throw rate in the advanced stats so thanks

I just hope we don't give up on Frank before we truly give the kid a legit chance to grow. Many forget real quick how we all knew when we drafted him that he was gonna take time for him to develop. I'm sure we all were expecting him to show more by now but the last month or so of this season he was really starting to show that growth and seemed to gain a lot of confidence in himself. If he missed his first couple of shots he wasn't just stopping shooting like he used to do and would stick with it and would start hitting his shots and was being aggressive going to the basket.
Please Leon and Perry do not give up on this kid.

yeah which is why even though Haliburton is rightfully a significantly more polished offensive player than Frank there play styles are still very similar.
SGA is more of a drive and create type scorer that developed as a shooter. Haliburton is more of a cerebral ball movement PG that plays within an offense.

I don't think Haliburton is a true PG at the next level. I think he'll play up as a wing which will make his skillset a little more valuable. I agree he's not Shai but even though the form is wonky the shot is less of a question mark than it was with Shai. Halli can flat shoot it off the catch.
I also am a little more optimistic about Hali as an attacker. I think he's more "bursty" than Frank, for an example, and his issue is more about accepting contact at the rim and on his drives. He shies away from it. But I think with some weight room work and more focus in the film room he'll get better.
Also I buy that the kid has a good head on his shoulders and seems like a dedicated high IQ player. He's a good fit for a Knicks roster that lacks high level IQ guys. He sold me in his film room session with Schmitz TBH

Haliburton isn't really crafty in the half court.

over 66% (2/3rds) of his shots are jumpers. With about only 18% of his shots coming near the basket so he will def need to play with one or two ball handlers because he is not someone who consistently is aggressive in getting into the paint.
He would actually make a fantastic triangle PG

Trade down from Ball to Haliburton, and Jarret Culver, and take salary to do it. Somehow they get the Pacers pick but both Saddiq Bey and Patrick Williams are gone. So they take Josh Green (pacers pick they never explain how the Knicks get) and Tyler Bey (Clippers pick)
And then they trade RJ Barret and Haliburton and the 2021 Mavs pick for Russel Westbrook.
Why does the media hate us

Am afraid this is the only draft in the near future where there is a possibility you can trade up from #6 to #1.
And there is no guard in this draft whom I am willing to trade up for.
