Re: NBA - The Re-Open: Discussion Thread
So because it's almost a lost season (it's not, ~80% of the regular season has been completed) the NBA just throws **** at the wall hoping it sticks? Group play is not the way to get the best teams to advance in a playoff scenario; it's where less talented teams can get lucky, win a game or two, and then advance to the knockout stage where they get completely obliterated.
All teams played ~80% of the season and if you're not in the playoff picture, maybe you should have played better from October to March.

I can't imagine something that drastic would happen. I'd be really really surprised.

They have been talking 2 cities for these games vegas n orlando why not keep that and just do west 1-8 2-7 etc
In Vegas and east conference in orlando with finals being in Orlando why is this so difficult
Agree with jay would be borderline criminal to do 1-16 in orlando just to watch the fake show damn near walk to the finals because the bucks got hosed into playing 3 of the top teams in a row while the lakers ended up playing the utahs n rockets of the world

Yeah, I'm amazed at how blatant an attempt this would be in order to make the Lakers' road to the Finals that much easier. I don't think it's happening, but never underestimate how far the Lebron marketing machine's influence goes.

Re: NBA - The Re-Open: Discussion Thread
How ironic this whole thing is the bucks had the best record and arguably the best team yet a virus which not only shuts down the world but kicks the bucks in the you know whats by taking away their much deserved home court advantage and now if this stupid playoff scenerio holds firm the NBA will take over for the virus n kick them again in the you know whats by hosing them over for a title...
Why even have seeds drop 16 teams into a hat draw 2 teams 8xs and who ever you pick plays then do it again round 2....

Cuban's proposal
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29224715/mark-cuban-suggests-play-tournament-final-2-seeds-nba-playoffs
It isn't the worst thing. He does get all 30 teams back. But looks like he wants a seeding done without regard to East v. West

Re: NBA - The Re-Open: Discussion Thread
I like that world cup scenerio with the 5 tier group thing.
Having each group in tier 1 pick their 4 teams from the other tiers is pretty cool.Think that would eliminate the bucks getting hosed n lakers getting a cake walk to finals cause at least first 8 games anyway bucks could pick who they play.
Its how seeding works after first round will we see how everything goes

I'm fine with this World Cup group play idea for the hypothetical mid-season tournament, but not for the playoffs.

Why do i feel that unless they do this scenerio or just have the eastern conference play in orlando n the west play in vegas any other idea i fear will screw the bucks

Re: NBA - The Re-Open: Discussion Thread
The NBA should just adopt the just released NHL plan.
Top 4 teams in each conference play a round robin to determine seeding.
Teams 5-12 in the conference play a 5 game series to advance to the playoffs.
The teams in the 5-12 range that lose advance to the lottery with the bottom 6 teams.

Like that idea would eliminate any excuses of being hosed i think from buck fans if the bucks have to beat Toronto celts sixers n heat to get top seed

All of these different ideas to determine the teams to make the playoffs but I haven’t seen anybody explain why the normal NBA playoffs for this year is a bad idea. Why are people trying to re-create the wheel?

The only reason is to try to make LeBron's path to the finals as easy as possible. The "it's a great time to try something new" b.s. is just that, b.s.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Think half the world who follows the NBA think that tbe powers to be will do everything to help LeBron and the lakers as some kind of bryant tribute to them winning the whole thing.
This whole thing with lebron started at this seasons draft night where magically the lakers who didn't have a high enough draft pick to trade for davis got the 4th pick....now fast forward and to continue this laker in the finals crap somehow the NBA will do a playoff scenerio which will favor 2 teams neither will be the bucks 1 will be the lakers.
Just do the normal playoff way east vs east west vs west then finals how simple

Introducing “group play” is almost as dumb as trying to finish a season during a pandemic.

Re: NBA - The Re-Open: Discussion Thread
This really shouldn't be that hard or even a topic. If you decide you need some regular season games to hit TV rights and to kind of give guys a warm up then just say you're playing to get to 70 for all teams then stop. Seeds are set and play the playoffs as normal. Possibly reducing first round to 5 games to speed it up.
If you decide against regular season. You start the playoffs as is now. Sorry, you shouldn't have half assed the regular season, the NBA has been telling you that for years.
The only variety I think that has any merit is some kind of small play in for the last seed or two. There's no reason to mess with anything at the top and the overall normal structure.

Right, and I would actually argue this is the worst time to try something new.

Lol everyone should’ve known that if the NBA was coming back they were going to try and test run something new. y’all wanted the season back so bad
Bucks tricked me into being a diehard in 2001, LeBron is the 2nd best player ever, and pizza is awesome.
