Probably would have been better PR to keep this 'concern' out of the media.
Pretty simple solution is just let teams pick lodgings by record, the least they could do since home court is gone.

Re: NBA - The Re-Open: Discussion Thread
I can't get over Lowe and KOC writing articles and tweeting about all these crazy ideas for determining who gets in the playoffs or who gets the 8th seed. Even in Lowe's latest article, he leads off with the first two paragraphs stating how the cleanest and easiest way to get to the playoffs is in the traditional manner of 1-8 for east/west. Then the remaining 90% of the article is explaining the difficulties of all other non-traditional scenarios, which he seems to favor much more than the traditional NBA playoffs.
I know these guys need something to write about but come on.

Over 80% of the season is complete. Yes the remaining season won't be "traditional" but that's no reason to "test" a new playoff system. Ridiculous. 1-16 seeding can be talked about and voted on in the offseason. You don't use this season as a test by changing the playoff rules at the end. There will be a ton of interest/ratings without gimmicks.

Its Silver, he wants to try new stuff. Which I agree, is likely a mistake. People want as normal as possible right now. Not silly experiments.

Right. Obviously this is not a normal season. But Silver can get ****. I hate when there is a push for solutions without problems.

I would selfishly love to see a six team playoff tournament to determine the final two seeds. That’s an extra 210 people though.

I'm good with that since the whole 82 games won't be played. And it gives Silver his dream of a potential LeBron vs. Zion playoff matchup.

Conspiracy theorists aside i would love to know if queen lebron is whispering in silvers ear for this 1-16 crap to me theres no other reason to even consider this scenerio when the regular format would work just fine this year.
Seems to me this would be a plan lebron would love n if silver has a much of a hard on for the lakers as stern did silver could try n make it as easy as he can for the lakers to reach the finals

I read that they are thinking of letting the teams in tier 1 pick their own group via like a draft bucks pick 1st then lakers then .....
So if they do that i think the bucks would chose those laker picks instead lol

So stupid if they do the pick your opponents thing. No gimmicks are needed.

They mentioned in the article since there was no home court advantage that was tier 1 gift sorta speak for having the best records. This whole 1-16 or the tier thing is nothing but a gimmick but if the bucks get rewarded for having the best record by being allowed to pick their group first so be it they deserve something they earned somethibg special

Re: NBA - The Re-Open: Discussion Thread
I can't make an argument necessarily for helping but can further explain my position. I'm in the camp of people who think this championship has an asterisk to some degree regardless. Not having to deal with a Boston, Philly, Toronto crowd on the road already makes these playoffs feel like somethings missing. Home crowds, snatching one the road, etc is going to be missed severely. It's more of a "why not" feeling more so than a solution.emunney wrote:I will admit that I generally hate the idea of going 1-16 so that's probably coloring my outlook, but I'm def open to hearing why it would help finish this season.
With that being said I would much more enjoy a chance to take out multiple West teams vs hearing about East/West disparity so a future 1-16 sounds great.
Inadequate perception I reckon it's from the Valium

Re: NBA - The Re-Open: Discussion Thread
I seriously don't get the need to change anything, who cares if its all in one location? It's slapping your own asterisk on to the playoffs that's totally unnecessary & irrelevant to anything to do with the virus. You can't do it next year because of travel so why now, what purpose? 1-8 East vs West, only bring in 16 teams because nobody cares about bubble teams anyways. Silver moves into Vince McMahon territory to stack the deck for Lebron + pigeonhole Zion into this somehow. It's not a coincidence that all these proposals make it harder for the Bucks and easier for the Lakers, Silver hates the idea of the champion being from Toronto last year and Milwaukee this year.

Does the fact that Disney is planning on reopening change anything?
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

We're already getting **** as we were going to have homecourt throughout, so there's not a damn thing putting an asterisk on this for me.
