I'm trying to think who is more muscle-bound awkward - SJ or Joey Graham. Brisset and Watson have the game that better fits the Raptor's culture and the modern nba.
Are we Stanley's last NBA stop? I just can't see another team taking a shot on him after this.
Detroit, makes sense. Not great at developing players, meh organization over the last 10 years.
No excuses for him in a Raptors organization that's viewed as one of the best talent developing places in the league.
His contract is probably going to be used for salary filler in a trade more than anything at this point.

I love both these guys. they could easily fill a 8th/9th spot in the rotation on most teams imo. lots of two-way potential there.

If Oshae wasn't Canadian, would he be on the roster? He must hustle in practice!

Re: Our Two Way Guys: Oshae Brissett and Paul Watson
I know it's far more expensive but wouldn't it be best to retain all 3 of Gasol, Ibaka, Fred and cut costs in other places by letting Boucher, RHJ walk? My guess is that there probably isn't that much money out there this offseason so maybe we can get them on reasonable long term contracts or give them big 1 year contracts.
We then upgrade Brisset and Watson to cheap one way contracts and draft a wing.
guards : Kyle, Fred, Norm, TD, McCaw, Thomas
wings: Siakam, OG, Watson, Brisset, 1st round rookie, johnson
bigs: Ibaka, Gasol, Hernandez
Edit:
We might be able to duck the luxury tax retaining all of Fred, Ibaka, Gasol if we play our cards right.
According to basketball reference, our guaranteed contracts adds up to 86 million. These contracts include...
Kyle 30
Pascal 29
Norm 10.8
McCaw 4
OG 3.8
Stanley Johnson 3.8
TD 1.5
Thomas 1.5
Hernandez 1.5
Now if we upgrade Watson and Brisset, we can expect them to get the same type of contract as TD, Thomas Hernandez so they will make a little less than 1 million a year. That will put us around 88 million.
Our 1st round rookie will make close to 2 million a year. That will put us around 90 million. The projected luxury tax is 139 million. So that leaves us about 49 million to spend. Let's say we retain Fred for 20 million a year, that would leave us 29 million to spend on Ibaka and Gasol. I think that's workable. We can find a way to even unload Stanley Johnson or even McCaw to save some cash too.

Rondae is probably gone. He was on a 1-year deal to rebuld his value. He probably gets a bigger deal somewhere in the league as a FA - (cap dependent given the expected cap drop, we may be able to get his back on another value deal.)
Stanley has a player option for about $3.5 million. He'd be lucky to get any contract, so he will definitely pick up his option and dumping him requires someone to want him. Again with the expected cap drop, teams will be even less likely to be willing to absorb his hit, given there will be even less $$ available on teams cap. Masai may just keep him out of necessity due to the cap situation, rather than a buyout or paying the draft pick price to dump him.
WE have quite a bit of picks left so I wouldnt put it past the Raps to dump Stanley for a future second
Ya. Definitely agree. If we are in the luxury tax next year and a team is willing to take his contract for a second, the Raptors would immediately do that.

That projection was pre-covid19 season cancellation. League revenues will be much lower than projected due to the loss of home game attendance. In addition, issues with TV contract minimum games required (if they don't reach that, would lower as well).
Projected tax is unknown but likely to be considerably lower than the number originally predicted in February so we don't have as much to spend

I'm hoping that Gasol will take a 4 year deal at the MLE, knowing that he'll play 2 maybe 3 more years, then we can stretch provision him. Hoping Ibaka will take a 4 year deal for $15 million, with max raises after the 2nd year, also 4th year player option? Hope Fred will take $18 million per year with max raises for 4 years and a player option 4th?
Use half the MLE for a PF/C, maybe Nerlens Noel or Alex Len.

I think getting Watson precludes the Raptors drafting a SG.

I mean he seems to be better than Bebe was but would not want him starting.
He's like the same as Matt Thomas on the depth chart. Siakam, Lowry, FVV, OG, Powell, Ibaka, Gasol, TD, Boucher/Thomas, Watson. So 9/10th man.
Also could see a 1st round pick taking his position in the rotation. My dark horse is a healthy Sagaba Konate developing in the 905.

Why would SJ even consider not picking up his option? He probably begged Toronto to make it a two year deal. He is on the verge of going to China for the rest of his career.
If I was Toronto I would just waive him and stretch his salary next year. That is what the provision is for.
I read on the Athletic since COVID there are a number of US players that want to come back. It would be a good time to look into that overseas market.

Stretching him would take up cap from Giannis.

Short term money isn't the only motivating factor. If he wants more playing time, not exercising his player option would allow him to try another team. If he doesn't and Raps do not waive him, he could hurt his future value. Seen plenty of examples where a player's opportunities just disappear quickly. There is a risk for him that in 21/22 nobody signs him.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

I think it would be lucky to get one of the two. And if have to pick it's Watson. Brissett just can't shoot.

never actually watched Watson play so had to look up some highlights. He's got a pretty smooth game and kind of reminds me of somewhere between a Paul George and Khris Middleton.

I like the KMiddleton comp. He's got a lot of iso potential and can spot up from three as well. I think we might have found our next 6th man.

Next year, I see the lineup looking like this:
One of Ibaka/Gasol
Siakam
OG
Powell
Lowry
Key Bench: Davis, Thomas, Boucher
The Raps will likely use the MLE on a big. The big wildcard is VV. I think the Raps will eventually sign him.
I think our big is going to be our first rounder. If Brissett and Watson get converted. We unload Johnson and let Boucher/RHJ walk
Gasol and Ibaka might take 1 year deals just given the whole covid situation and I'd imagine Fred resigns here.
WE have:
Kyle/TD
Fred/Norm/Thomas
OG/Brissett/Watson
Pascal/1st rounder
Serge/Marc/Dewan
I prefer our 1st round pick goes to D-League like Siakam did on this development
When looking at our player priority off the bench, I think it goes like this:
Ibaka (FA), Powell, McCaw, RHJ (FA), Davis, Thomas, Boucher (FA), Johnson, Miller (FA), Hernandez, Watson (FA), Brissett (FA)
With our future 1st and 2nd pick roster spots, we will be deciding between RHJ, Boucher, Miller, Watson and Brissett.
Replacement:
Gasol - ? (downgrade)
VanVleet - ? (downgrade)
Ibaka - ? (downgrade?)
RHJ - Johnson (downgrade?)
Boucher - Hernandez (downgrade?)
Miller - Brissett (same)
Watson - McCaw (upgrade)
