Why isn’t the title of the article called anyone but Amy? Lol. No matter who’s picked, there’s a narrative some group is left out. If he picks Harris or Abrams Progressives will say he abandoned them. If he picks Warren black women and Bernie supporters will be pissed. If he selects an older running mate young people will be mad... so on and so forth. The big picture is that he’s not going to please everybody and there’s way too much emphasis put on a position that traditionally doesn’t have that much power or responsibility. No matter the pick, people need to show up and vote blue down the ticket.

I think Harris and Abrams are seen as progressive enough to bridge the gap in this article (though I don't agree on Harris).

I think Warren is the strongest, but very unlikely, choice

Bernie supporters absolutely despise Kampala Harris for some reason.

If you’re genuinely curious, the main reason is her record as a prosecutor. I’m sure her supporters have defenses and rebuttals for it, but I’m just letting you know that’s why. I wouldn’t personally so much say despise as just a dislike and a distrust. Also she was challenged on this at the debate (by tulsi gabbard) and the answer was poor and it may have sunk the campaign.

She also flip-flopped on M4A during the campaign. She was for it before she was against it.

I know the electoral side of things is less a focal point right now. But we got some stories worth looking at. Steve King, a pretty blatant white supremacist, lost his primary. The guy he lost too has sketchy rhetoric but he at least isn't asking what non-white cultures have contributed to civilization's history (so dumb...so dumb). I was pretty surprised at how many incumbents ran completely unchallenged in PA primaries, I only know heads in Philly but I'm curious about the mechanics of the parties in that state.

And the ones that prompted me to make this post. First, this win looks like a nice dub here for progressives and ties in to some convos we've had about building progressive presence in Congress. Teresa Leger Fernandez looks like a good one. She's a M4A, Green New Deal and path to citizenship + DACA supporter. She got AOC and Warren endorsements. She also beat out a former CIA agent who had a lot of outside monetary support to work with. It's another sign that Hispanic voters are leaning heavy toward progressives and while I think it's a lot more than this, the progressive push for a path to citizenship/DACA is worth noting. You gain new supporters by actually offering a material value.

Teresa Leger Fernandez, a progressive candidate who played up her deep roots in New Mexico, defeated the former C.I.A. officer Valerie Plame early Wednesday in the Democratic primary election for the state’s Third Congressional District.

Ms. Plame, who rose to fame after her identity was leaked during George W. Bush’s administration, ran a well-funded campaign in what is widely regarded as a safe Democratic district. Her debut television advertisement, in which she drove a Chevy Camaro backward through the desert, attracted national attention for its James Bond-style flash. But it may have helped contribute to her defeat, as she faced persistent criticism that she was an outsider.

By contrast, Ms. Leger Fernandez emphasized her long history in the district throughout her campaign. She received endorsements from high-profile national Democrats, including Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York.

The northern New Mexico district is at the center of the state’s deep Hispanic culture, and also includes more than a dozen Pueblo tribes, the Navajo Nation and the Jicarilla Apache Nation. Hispanics make up 41 percent of the district’s population, while Native Americans make up 19 percent.

Another candidate, Joseph Sanchez, a state legislator, emphasized his family’s 12-generation history in New Mexico. And Marco Serna, the Santa Fe district attorney, attacked Ms. Plame by accusing her of misunderstanding local values and exaggerating her C.I.A. exploits.

Ms. Plame had significantly out-raised and outspent her rivals, much of the money coming from donors outside the district who were impressed by her vows to take on President Trump. Along with her former husband, Joseph C. Wilson, Ms. Plame, now 56, left Washington for Santa Fe when her identity was leaked after Mr. Wilson undercut the Bush administration’s 2003 claim that Iraq was trying to build nuclear weapons.

Ms. Plame testified to Congress that she blamed the Bush administration for intentionally disclosing her identity and undermining her career, a contention she has maintained and cited as a motivation to run.

Ms. Plame said in an interview that she had been raised by “Rockefeller Republicans” and voted for Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. But she said that she “didn’t know better at the time,” and that her politics and worldview had changed since then.

Here's a look at her full issues page.

This is already running long. I'm peeling out the next story for its own post and focus...

This is more local but a feel good story for the electoral side of things. 6 years after the protests in Ferguson, they've elected their first black mayor. She's a long time member of the community and didn't give up after losing on her first attempt. In light of everything we're witnessing, I think this casts a hopeful tone to the progress that can come when we confront issues head-on. Keep building fam.

The victory for Ms. Jones, a Ferguson City Council member, came as another night of protests unfolded throughout the country over the killing of George Floyd and persistent police brutality against black Americans.

Ms. Jones, 65, and her opponent Heather Robinett, 49, had both vowed to continue changes enacted after the 2014 shooting of Mr. Brown, including a federal consent decree, a legally binding agreement requiring reforms to a police department.

And both had made clear that they supported peaceful protests after the killing of Mr. Floyd in Minneapolis, while condemning the violence that has broken out in several cities.

“I’ve got work to do — because when you’re an African-American woman, they require more of you than they require of my counterpart,” Ms. Jones said after her victory, in a video posted online Tuesday night by the journalist Jason Rosenbaum of St. Louis Public Radio. “I know the people in Ferguson are ready to stabilize their community, and we’re going to work together to get it done.”

Ms. Jones, who prevailed with 54 percent of the vote, will succeed James Knowles III, who has been the mayor since 2011 and could not run for re-election because of term limits. Ms. Jones lost to Mr. Knowles in the 2017 mayoral election.

A resident of Ferguson for more than 40 years, Ms. Jones is also a pastor in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Protests convulsed Ferguson for weeks in 2014, after the white officer, Darren Wilson, shot and killed Mr. Brown, 18. A grand jury and the Department of Justice declined to prosecute Mr. Wilson, who eventually resigned.

In 2015, Ms. Jones became the first black woman elected to the City Council, and though she was critical of the city’s law enforcement system, she did not have enthusiastic backing from protesters at the time.

“I don’t get along to go along,” she said then. “If I see something that needs to be addressed, I will address it.”

After losing her bid for mayor, Ms. Jones said that many black residents told her that they did not believe electing her would change their own fortunes and questioned whether she had accomplished anything in her two years on the City Council.

“If you’ve been oppressed so long, it’s hard for you to break out to a new idea,” Ms. Jones said at the time. “And when you’ve been governed by fear and people telling you that the city is going to decline because an African-American person is going to be in charge, then you tend to listen to the rhetoric and don’t open your mind to new possibilities.”

Ferguson is one of the smallest cities in the country with a federal consent decree, which includes scores of new policies to reform the police department.

Like many other cities throughout the country, Ferguson officials declared a state of emergency and issued a curfew in recent days, as the protests over police brutality have continued.

I’m receiving mail from Florida and NJ as if I’m registered to vote in both states, one as a Democrat and one as an independent. Guess I’ll just vote in both, once for Biden and once for Hawkins. I’ll see if I can get in some more states later

Oh so that’s legal right?

And the libs get their tighties in a wad about mail in voting. Because who needs ID, citizenship or valid safeguards against fraud? Lmao.

Anytime I want a laugh I come here to witness the TDS. Plus I have a lynchmob of petty lib tyrants foaming at the mouth to kick me out of here.

Not really a big deal, this forum is far from its glory days.

Im just saying a quick hello to my favorite Knick liberal Wingo, stay safe man!

Also Clyde style, I don’t even think you’re a Knick fan the only thing we have in common and I’m questioning this is that we’re both human beings. We’ve already had it out so you’re on permanent ignore to me because your posts are so delusional, sophomoric and twisted you should talk to a psychologist at the very least. If our president is really a Nazi as you say LEAVE the US. The party will be held the day after.

Dementia Biden has no shot. ZERO, NONE. I can’t wait for the debates, how many times will he forget his thought in the middle of a sentence or say something way more asinine than Trump ever would?

The silent majority will be back in November. If you all feel so strong about your candidates chances bet your screen name here! I tried to in 16’, no one had the guts.

PS- Mods, was this post ok? Are opinions and the 1st amendment allowed here anymore? Or will I get a PM from ——V——?

Mugz out.

RIP George Floyd and may the scourge of police brutality disappear from this country once and for all.
Trust but verify.

You just said if our President is a Nazi, then leave the U.S.

Actually, no. We fought the Nazis once and we defeated them. And we'll do it again.

But you're welcome to leave the country when the Democrats sweep and prosecute these criminals since you're the one suggesting the appropriate response is to pack your bags and leave when you don't get what you want.

19 years on this board and the dozen or so people I’ve chased off would say otherwise. Here’s an analogy, try joining a message board on freerepublic or another right wing site and see how long you last, because it’s not like this forum has a modicum of objectivity.

Peace be with you.

You should stay in your safe space and continue to police this forum with absolute objectivity millennial. The real world is too scary for you. I don’t think I would trust you to bag my groceries, you’d probably pocket something.

I didn’t realize they still sold crack? You’re delisional. I was paraphrasing your comment to roblionaire on the George Floyd thread that you tried to hijack with your agenda and appropriately were called out for.

Seriously you know what they say about opinions. So keep yours, but you might want to do so to yourself because I’ve seen quite a few people disagree with your mental flatulence.

You're not very good at this

But you sure seem like a swell guy

Be well

19 years on this board and the dozen or so people I’ve chased off would say otherwise. Here’s an analogy, try joining a message board on freerepublic or another right wing site and see how long you last, because it’s not like this forum has a modicum of objectivity.

Peace be with you.

Well champ, if you were really that good at rhetorical combat you'd know that an analogy is not an offer. Webster's is your friend.

But hey!, don't forget to stop by on November 4th to tell us what went wrong with your prediction.

You're quite the rugged individualist so I think you can at least manage that much egg on your face.

Cheers!

I'm pretty sure it was my sh*tpost game, can't see why else, my bball takes are kinda sh*t

Look, I'm gonna be real with you. I just don't think you've got it anymore. Trolling's like ball, you gotta keep innovating or else you get left in the dust, and I see better trolls than you daily on this board. What you're doing really just seems more like a cry for attention from someone realizing he's already past his prime and his best accomplishment is getting people kicked off a message board

Sucks, but it happens.

I’ll be real with you, since no one here is. I’ve never trolled, never needed to. I’m a Lonewolf in a forest of deranged ideologues.

Check my resume, how many threads have I been on that I’ve been attacked by six or more people and held my ground and clapped back in equal proportion?
Hint, dozens.

You must be bored and looking for a little insight so here you go, I’ve been drinking and that’s the least of my worries right now. I should probably stop partying like I’m 18 since I’m 42, but given my history
I don’t even think the grim reaper will be able to take me the first time he visits me. Bottom line is and was in the tine of Corona I got bored popped in and popped off a little bit.

Good day.
Trust but verify.
