Re: 2020 NBA Draft Thread: Bulls pick #7 (probably)
If the Bulls stay at 7 or worse what do you think of trading the pick
Bulls trade - 7th pick/Hutchinson
for
Suns trade - Mikal Bridges
Suns end up getting picks 7 and 10 to either get 2 rookies or use in trade.
Next year we have White/Lavine/Otto/Lauri/Carter with a bench of Sato/Mokota (young 3nD)/Bridges/Young/Gafford. Bulls get Bridges who is a great 3 and D player who can play the 2/3 and some small ball 4. Bridges can take over for Porter when he leaves next year and can start when Otto is injured.

Ha. He was 23 coming in. But I did make that point.
I have no doubt Wendell, Gafford and Lauri can be good in 3-4 years. The question is whether they’re worth the wait and investment, when you see the league has cheap replaceable big men available every summer at this point. The answer imo is a big “NO.” Maybe Lauri if he goes through a post-punch Niko revitalization.
Gafford is by far the most intriguing “investment.” If he can cut down on his fouls, improve his rebounding and rotations, he’d be a bargain center until 2022, at which point he’d become an overpaid Capella.
Too late! You will now never be able to convince me that Taj was not in fact a 30 year old rookie.
I think Boylen’s been terrible for WCJ and the injuries suck totally derail his momentum.
Wish Boylen ran some offense through Wendell I think he could be a good play making big. Lord knows we need more play making.

I like mikal but I want to keep hutch. I don't think hutch is too far behind as a prospect. It's not like bridges is substantially younger either. But I'd trade our 7th for mikal

If you ran this by Suns fans I think you'd get rejected pretty quickly. They value him more than this...

Why would they trade a draft pick that they “hit” on for the unknown?

WCJ definitely needs some run on offense. We have yet to really see what he can do. I think this draft can help set up the next step in his evolution.

I don't think the new FO will be interested in dealing picks. They will likely be looking to draft well and develop even better.

Assuming Edwards, Ball, & Wiseman are off the board. Who knows about everyone else.
Ranking of guys I want at 7
-Toppin
-Okoro
-Hayes
-Hampton
Guys I don't want at 7
-Haliburton (shot scares me)
-Okongwu (Really like him but lots of overlapping skill sets between him, WCJ, and Gafford)
-Anthony (small point that to me doesn't really excel at much)
-Avdija (shooter that doesn't shoot very well. Never close to elite in Europe. Bust)

I feel like vassell is a similar player and younger if you want that archetype of player. Might have more upside. Bridges can't dribble.

For wings, I like Okoro, Nesmith, and Vassell. I think all would help the team.

If we stick around our highest probability, my early pick who I want us to take is Deni Avdija. I think he has the most upside and offers us another ball handler on the wing. He's a little redundant on roster fit, but I don't care. I'm taking the best talent and I think he's it if we stick in the 7-9 range and he doesn't move up the draft board.
That pass at 1:55 is just so pretty.

I don't think there is a redundancy of a roster fit. He's a playmaking combo F who can get his own shot. That will help others.
I really want him on the Bulls.

His shot isn't good yet. Thats the biggest knock on him. His form looks good and even if his shot isn't top notch, he'll still impact games because he is smart, can pass and uses his size in the post with mismatches. I'm a big fan. I don't think he's Luka, but I see some flashes of him in his highlights.

The Bulls would be fortunate to get rid of Hutch and all their asking is number 7.
Mikal is a proven two way SF, Hutch is on the brink of retirement. Judging how a far better version in Fultz got dealt for free, this aint even a loss.

He might be little overrated due to the Luka euroleague ascension, but regardless huge fan of his game and one of the best forwards in this draft. I dont think he is a star but very high floor with borderline all star ceiling like OPJ. With how much AK emphasizes versatility and two way players, he will be one of their top targets at #7.

I could see the FO going this direction. Not a big fan, for the same reasons I wasn't a fan of trading up for Luca (I was wrong - obviously), but the questions I had about Luca were whether he was quick enough to do what he did in Euro in the NBA and he'd develop an NBA 3pt game. Luca reminded me that craftiness is the same as speed (and he is elite there) and he did have an NBA 3pt game. Same questions IMO for Deni.

Deni and Luka are nothing alike. They're not even similar. Luka has a jump shot and super court vision. Deni doesn't have either of those.

Based on my reading of what most scouting reports say, Deni has above average court vision and is a great passer of the ball. His jumper is his crutch. He's 19, plenty of time to develop his jumper. However, as I wrote in an earlier post, I'm not as worried about him not developing his jumper because he impacts the game in so many other ways.
The biggest question mark to me on Deni is his defense. I have no idea what he's like defensively and haven't seen much in scouting reports on that side of the ball. The little out there says he could be capable, but needs work.

He may not be, but in that video he looked like he had very solid court vision, and the form on his shot was fine. Remember that folks questioned Luka's shooting coming into the league, also. That doesn't mean that Deni will similarly be able to progress, but it's still something to keep in mind.
Meanwhile, the biggest differences I see (basically from that one film vs. the similar films we saw of Luka pre-draft) is that Luka was more offensively dominant and more of a pure 3 in terms of body type, where Deni hasn't apparently shown the same capacity to "take over" and also has more of a tweaner 3/4 frame (thin now, but I'd expect him to get bigger).
