40th anniversary of the Parish-McHale trade. Was reflecting on the eerie similarities to the Futz-Tatum trade, and then got sidetracked with what ifs.

The Kings had to screw up the rest of the Fultz-Tatum trade deal by magically becoming average last year. That trade has a whole different vibe if that pick became Ja Morant and not Romeo Langford.

On a related note, Sixers would have ended up with Zion had the Kings pick come in at #1 last year. So Sixers could have done that trade and taken Tatum #1, or not done the trade and taken De'Aaron Fox at #3, which would have hurt the Kings bad enough to open the door for the Sixers to draft either Zion or Morant with the Kings pick the following year.

Man, I hope that hurts. The Process died a cruel death that day, lmao.

Tatum and morant....that’s a future. My god. It’s really unbelievable the kings didn’t suck that year - that trade is such an unbelievable haul if we get a top 4 pick but a god level trade if it’s morant. Also changes others things like maybe makes Danny willing to gamble on other moves when the package could have been top 3 pick+ Player+ fillers to the pelicans...maybe you get AD and keep Tatum

Turned out to be the 2nd best trade in Celtics history.

The 1st best being on April 30, 1956.

On that date, Auerbach sent Ed Macauley and Cliff Hagan to the St. Louis Hawks for the No. 2 pick in the draft. To ensure that they got the player they wanted, Celtics owner Walter Brown promised one week of the Ice Capades to the Rochester Royals — who owned the No. 1 pick — if they wouldn’t take University of San Francisco center Bill Russell.

We really dodged a bullet thanks to Colangelo's ineptitude. Just waiting for the inevitable Embiid-Simmons spat to blow the Process apart completely.

I always figured I would believe it when I see it, as in when I turn on my tv and see live new NBA basketball happening.

Since it's still slated to start a while away and some cases are going up in other states, who knows.

It just feels very bizarre, which kind of fits the current landscape in America anyway so whatever right. :usa:

Lol. You got people working at grocery stores and fast food restaurants for minimum wage, putting their lives on the line everyday, and these dudes don't want to play basketball for millions of dollars because they don't want to be trapped in a quarantine bubble. Wow.

Worse yet— what if the Lakers pick actually landed in the 2 to 5 range in 2018. They had the worst record in the league in December, but ended up rebounding and finishing 10th. Shoulda had a real shot at Luka :-/

New proposal: Take the NBA quarantine bubble to New Zealand.

I bet Smitty hasn't thought of this yet.

Guessing that Hayward is one of the players not wanting to play— his wife is pregnant and due in early September. With three young kids too, I could easily see him not being too keen on being away for 3 months.

It never dawned on me, that any of the Celtics wouldn't want to play.
It's possible. But, Hayward has been in the gym.

We could speculate all day and night long on who wouldn't want to go. For some it might be for family/safety. Some might just know their rights for easy partying may be exposed/taken away. Some just might flat out not care. Some might be more into even politics right now and are burned out.

Who knows.

True, but they are going to likely test the NBA players every single night. They say it won't be as invasive (big stick in the nose) but still every night testing sounds draining/daunting just to play basketball.

I have said from the beginning that if this starts up again I will be here with you guys watching. I just am not sure I believe anything anymore.

I’m married to a nurse whose pregnant and had to work through the entirety of covid- begrudgingly and scared but showed up everyday to help people who were sick, putting herself at risk and potentially our unborn child.

I sympathize and understand players being fearful of corona and I think that’s a legitimate concern. If you fear for your health or families - don’t play. However, Not liking being stuck in a bubble or testing being “too invasive” or too much is a crock of ****. These are unprecedented times and you get paid an unreal amount of money.

I gotta go with this, too. -- If they are legit staying away for health and/or health of family reason, then that's understandable.
But, for the profession? It's what they want to do; and with a passion.

NBA Players don't have a long window of play.
And this thing (COVID-19) isn't going away anytime soon.

We'd very likely still have Tatum, just not Langford.
