Who is the best passing/court vision PG in this upcoming draft?

Post#1 » by bwgood77 » Tue Nov 12, 2019 3:53 am

Just curious on thoughts who follow this stuff closely. Obviously hard to tell against HS competition, and I noticed Nico Mannion had a good game against Illinois..impressive one for a first game as a freshman against a team from a power conference.

But I have no idea (outside of looking at tankathon) what people think of him or other PGs in this draft.

I gotta go with Lamelo on this one. I think hes the best passer in the draft, has fantastic vision and can make some crazy passes.

Cole is legit and #1 on my board. Dame Lillard with higher passing / defense IQ. Will be All-NBA player

^ highlight passes are not the same thing as actually running a team on a per possession basis, LaMelo's decision making needs a lot of work and while he can make those highlight passes, in terms of managing the games he's meh.

Don't sleep on 2nd year guards Hagans, Haliburton and Nembhard but, I think it's hands down Cole Anthony

I think Passing/Court vision are different from playmaking.

For example, i don't think John Stockton was particularly elite passer but he was an elite playmaker.

I think you can teach a player game management but you cant teach them the vision and creativity Lamelo have.

Another important caveat is that NBL competition is better than D1 competition.

My concern with Lamelo as a playmaker is more related to his scoring.

Just like Lonzo if you aren't a threat to score from anywhere you cant really manipulate a defense. Lamelos scoring numbers have been atrocious so far. I will say that Lemlos handle is definitely tighter and that gives me more hope he doesnt end up like Lonzo.

(although Lamelos defense is significantly worse)

Cole is definitely more well rounded as a PG prospect (hes #1 on my board) but I think Lamelo is definitely a better passer and has better vision.

well, if the question is who the best highlight reel passer is, okay the answer is LaMelo, but I don't think that was the question here but my man bw can correct me if I'm wrong

Interesting. I don't see many who have Cole as #1 PG in this draft.

I like Malachi Flynn (San Diego State) more than any other point guard in this draft bar none.

still kinda true for me depending on how you wnat me to classify Hampton and Haliburton, both can be PGs if you want I guess but more combo guys, Cole for me is the best PG in the traditional sense I guess

What is the point in answering this way? We all know it’s LaMelo by a wide margin. Jones has good court vision, but in terms of passing + court vision, LaMelo wins out.

Just realized that post was from eons ago, but you are still saying Cole is a better traditional point than LaMelo? How?

So you are saying LaMelo doesn’t have the best court vision and passing out of all point guards? Please do explain. That position is indefensible.

Okay I get it. You think LaMelo is just flashier but not better. Weird take.

And it still doesn’t answer how LaMelo isn’t a true point and how Tre Jones...

How in the world are people answering Cole Anthony in terms of passing? Not even sure he's top 10 passer in this class.
I was right about 3 point shooting. I expect to be right about Tacko Fall. Some coach will figure out how to use Tacko Fall. This movement towards undersized centers will sweep ng back. Back to the basket scorers will return to the NBA.
