Honestly at this rate. I would be fine with the season ending. Playoffs without the fan atmosphere isn’t exactly something I’m desperate to see anyway.

An underrated part of this statement is Rivers' astute understanding of the impact the game has on urban youth and how having games during the summer can provide a POSITIVE distraction as opposed to being out in the streets. And because it is the summer, these same kids will be able to stay up late to watch the late games. This is part of the reason why longterm, the league really needs to go to a Dec-Aug schedule that doesn't have the league going up against football but baseball instead. They would see increased ratings over the summer I believe and could end the season just as the new football season starts.

Are you also fine with losing it next year as well and who knows how long after that?

This is where I'm at. I'm fine with not finishing this season. But the long-term consequences are worrying.

Exactly! This is a critical stretch. If the season doesn’t resume, chances are a lockout would eventually happen, then we don’t know how long would that last. I can’t imagine how many would lose their job and earnings. team employees, arena employees, restaurants and bars around the arena, and countless others. It’s easy for guys like kyrie and howard to stop playing. They are already set for life, including their future grandchildren. While i admire what they are standing/fighting for, i just don’t agree that basketball would be a distraction. In fact they would get heard more by playing. They would get more sympathy by playing. Especially from non US basketball fans.

Im fine with whatever the players decide. My hope is that its an equal weighted decision amongst all players.
I get that Kyrie and Dwight are good with not playing. Its admirable and I respect it. I just hope those without 8 or 9 figure net worths are able to be vocal and have their voices heard.
72% of the NBA makes below the league average salary. Im guessing the overwhelming majority couldn't go 1.5 years without an income. I get that it sucks to make a decision that goes against your true desires but this is the world we live in and there are billions of dollars at stake.

Would I play if I were them? No, so I really can't expect anybody to play.
I understand that there's millions at stake for the league and the players, but risking lives is not worth it. This might not be a popular opinion, but I won't get mad if this and next season are write-offs.

What are the CBA ramifications if the league tries to re-start the season, but something goes wrong after a month and it gets shuttered for good? Are there any consequences for the players in that scenario?

They’re not risking their lives by playing. The reason some are hesistant to play is because of the racial tensions and issues in the country. They feel as if they would be avoiding the issue by going away for 3 months. Not saying that’s correct or incorrect but that’s the feeling amongst players who are questioning going to Orlando.
Little to no discussion has been about health. It’s about the conditions of staying in a hotel for 3 months that isn’t appealing to them.

2 Billion this year alone. Add in next season and were talking near 10 of them.

I just stated my opinion, not Kyrie Irving's.
I'm sure there are players who feel strongly against playing due to health concerns but we don't hear about it. And yes, they are risking lives by playing -- maybe not theirs but the life of someone related to them. Believe or not, this is something that must be going through their heads. No one has forgotten what happened to KAT's mother.

It's simple. If a player doesn't feel comfortable player for health concerns, or even his wife is due have a baby, that is fine. But certainly don't turn this into a social justice issue. Just like MLB shouldn't be turning this into who's the biggest ****ole contest. I've pretty much been in quarantine since March, and I can tell you, while I love my house, it's not ******** Disney and I am certainly not a millionaire. But I do play one in my dreams.

Kyrie is saying that. Dwight Howard is saying that their community cannot afford to be distracted because they lack the resources that NBA players have, while saying that NBA players have never had "so much time to sit and be with their families," that families are more important than basketball, and that there should be no more basketball until things "get resolved."
But don't mistake this **** for what they feel, these dudes are self important **** who are trying to manipulate people. I actually feel like Kyrie and Dwight acting a fool gives us a needed dose of normalcy right now.
Health concerns are more than fair IMO, although I don't know if they are rational. Those who are vulnerable should obviously be shielded as much as possible, in or out of the bubble. But until there is a vaccine and/or cure, there is pretty much no practical way to avoid risk altogether. Given the protocols and precautions that will be in place, those inside the bubble should IMO be safer than those outside of the bubble.
