Supposed to get Kerr. Got Derek Fisher.

Supposed to get Budenholzer. Got David Fizdale.

Kerr is a product of having a insanely stacked roster. How much coaching is really required when your talent is just so much better than everybody else in the league

Thank you cause i was getting backlash on here when i was making that point about Kerr when they hired him. The guy still had more talent on his team then the Knicks and other teams even without having Steph and Klay and they have the worst record in the league. It's not about the coach, it's about the talent.

Some of you guys really undervalue the importance of a good coach, mostly because we haven’t had one since Van Gundy.

Rose is probably going to go with a name that has coaching experience since Rose has never done this before. You need some form of stability/experience to fall back on, especially in this media market.

They forgot Mark Jackson's entire offense was the Fizdale and Woodson special of isolations on every possession.

I would say a coach is even more important with our young roster, who can be heavily influenced. Instilling the importance of defense and passing will pay dividends when these guys hit their prime.

Probably because the Knicks aren't looking to build ground up (still). Right or wrong going hard after a guy like Thibs tells me that they are looking fir an accelerated rebuild. Hard to do that with a guy that has no track record as a head coach.

fizdale was supposed to be a rebuild development coach and he sucked so if they want to go with someone with an established track record instead this time let's just go for it

I got to disagree with you. Fizdale was brought here to deal with superstar egos ala what we are seeing in Brooklyn. The FO failed to get him Durant and his plus 1, and Fizdale failed to get KP to buy in. Fiz was not bought here for X and O’s or to develop youth. Which is why he went on such a horrible run.

If the Knicks got Durant, Kyrie and Zion he would have looked like a ok coach because he would have kept them happy.

Yep that’s 100%, Knicks front office loved that LeBron gave Fizdale the thumbs up. Everyone thought it was a no brainer until no one signed with the Knicks. Fizdale in no way was here to help rebuild. He was here to make the top tier players happy...too bad we don’t have any top tier players.

If the Knicks got Durant, Kyrie and Zion he would have looked like a ok coach because he would have kept them happy.

yeah fizdale was suppose to be someone we could bring into a meeting and sell as superstar a dream because one of fiz's big selling points is tha the had the backing from lebron and his connections so they were using him as a piece that stars would want to play for because everyone likes him.

I don't think he was known as a developmental coach.

He was known as a developmental coach.

He claimed that he invented drills to improve finishing at the rim as well as making Josh Richardson a very good player and reviving Tyreke.

"we're going to get you right!"

Investing a whole year into a player that wasn't going to be retained just to get fired the next season.

Beautiful management all around.

gotta love the logic.

if whatever small chance he played great they wouldn't want to pay him and if he didn't play well they wouldn't want to resign him...gotta love it

Showing that we can force feed Mudiay minutes was to signal to the rest of the league that we can starphuck with the best of them, no matter your skill level.

It's like flirting with the ugly friend to get the dime to start thinking about how well you'll treat her.

It was the linchpin of our KD strategy

I remember that too. Like it was yesterday. Idk though. I could go either way. The Knicks haven't been known to play a certain way except trash for 20 yrs. Thibs at least you know what the Knicks would be or try to be. You can invision the types of players you'd want to get, how you'd wanna draft, who might flourish and fail. Its almost security and I can't say how it would end but I'd feel secure believing we'll make the playoffs during his tenure. And yes, itd probably cost us a rebuild, draft licks and all but what's this all for anyway...to win.

Atkins is more realistic in the moment. We keep building and probably lose a bit more while we draft and develop assets and build a system that brings out the best in players and gradually gets us to a respectable team with a solid core.

Something just tells me that even if we went the latter route at some point we'll do exactly what the Nets just did when the opportunity presents itself. I just never believe the Knicks will contend with a team of players they once drafted. Dolan can't help himself
