Heat want to pair Giannis and Oladipo

Post#1 » by bisme37 » Mon Jun 22, 2020 6:15 pm

From the wiretap:

The Miami Heat are expected to pursue both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Victor Oladipo in 2021 free agency. The Heat would likely need to acquire at least one of the two players via sign-and-trade due to its lack of cap space for two max slots.

A few questions (I'm asking, not saying I know the answers):

1) Is this a good pairing? What are the plusses and minuses of this duo? Do they compliment each other? And how do they work with Jimmy Butler?

2) Are we sure Dipo is as good as we think he is and definitely a max player? This might seem like a weird question but he only really had that one season at max-level play. It could have been him getting to the level he's now destined to stay at, or it could have been lightning in a bottle. We just don't have a huge sample on him. Not to mention he's coming off major injury.

3) Do you think the Heat can pull this off? Why do Giannis and Dipo want to team up in Miami? Or why would they not want to?

So they would let Robinson, and Herro and Nunn walk?

And I want to date Zooey Deschanel and Scarlett Johansson.

Butler, Herro, Nunn, Robinson + use of the MLE >>>>> saving cap space or S&T for Oladipo

I am not sold on Oladipo being a cornerstone player ( a bit undersized for his position + questionable reliability).

That said, if Oladipo gets you Antetokounmpo you have to max him without second thoughts.

1. Yes. They're insanely good defensive athletes, they can switch everything with these types of guys. Dipo shoots well enough to complement offensively.
2. If dipo's injuries aren't a concern, yeah sure he's a top 25 players so sure he's a max guy.
3. Butler with those two would be beyond unfair for the league. That team would win a title on their defensive ability alone if they can fill in the rest of the roster.

I don't see Oladipo leaving the Pacers unless they lowball him.

I really would want to see what Dipo does next year. I’ve always liked the dude and I’m rooting for him, but he was straight up bad when he came back this year. They were worse with him

I've always said the prize is Dipo for the Lakers in '21.

Ahhh, after few years of ridicule online post- bron (with questionable signings) just like that Riley's back to licking his chops. Another super team formed before riding into the sunset would be great for The Don's legacy. 8-)

Does Giannis really want to team up with a guy who's quad muscle might tear off the bone again? I'm not so sure.

If Giannis leaves, he's going to Toronto. 99.9999% sure of it.

Defensively that trio is terrific but offensively they all seem like roughly the same player in 3 different bodies. All need the ball in their hands but are not really point guards, and none are great shooters. Giannis and Butler can't hit the broad side of a barn from the 3 point line and Dipo isn't much better. So the spacing would be awful and the shooters already on the Heat roster would likely be moved in the sign and trade. They are top notch players and could maybe make it work but I don't love it if I'm being honest.

I hope not. The league is a better place with those guys staying put. I think Toronto has a better shot at Giannis if leaves Milwaukee anyway.

Oladipo should be a big yikes for contender plans, he's good but not great and I would be majorly concerned he might mess up his knee again.

Obviously Giannis would be ideal for any team, but I'd be very hesitant with Dipo. On paper 2018 was an outlier and it remains to be seen whether he'll be able to fully recover that physical form. Then consider that 2018 Dipo was given full primacy as the lead guy, which wouldn't be the case on a superteam, and that he's never proven able to maximize his value as a secondary player. Then, consider that adding both Giannis and Dipo would have to require parting with ideal offensive role players like Robinson and/or Herro and... then what? Onball stars Giannis/Dipo/Butler + Bam with no offball floor spacing?

Dipo was a fine 3 point shooter over the years, he's had some down years. And frankly does offense even matter if you have those 3? They'll score enough and their defense will win the a title.

Yeah, Raptors are building Team Africa up there in Canada. Olapido, Anunoby, Siakam, Giannis & Ibaka looks like a pretty good starting lineup.

giannis doesnt seem like he would ever leave his team unless he loses 5, 6 more years and bucks never improve and he's basically forced out

him and dame have been pretty consistent in their views of staying with one team, old school style

but the fact that riley even thought of this lol, legend, he will sacrifice any young talent to win now, he's such a savage
basketball is a team sport
