Fight for ole DC.

The fact that George Preston Marshall was STILL being honored by this franchise until yesterday...

Dan Snyder is such a garbage person.

WASHINGTON—Following an outpouring of criticism from across the country, the Washington Redskins announced Wednesday that they are officially changing the team’s name to the D.C. Redskins. “We’ve heard the concerns of many people who have been hurt or offended by the team’s previous name, and I’m happy to say we’ve now rectified the situation once and for all,” said franchise owner Dan Snyder, adding that “Washington Redskins” will be replaced with “D.C. Redskins” on all team logos, uniforms, and apparel.

Think of the money Snyder could get if he changed it to Google Redskins. And then change it to Google Amazons.

He's entitled to speak his mind, but he might want to take into consideration how the people he coaches will take it. There's a reason why 99.9% of coaches don't publicly talk politics. Do like the others do and make up a username on a message board. :)

Hey, as long as the Skins do well, and he's focused on them... I don't have a problem with him doing that.

Hmm... as long as the Skins do well might be a difficult threshold. :)

The big guns are really putting the pressure on Danny. That last tweet remind me of when in 1962, the US government (particularly Udall and RFK) threatened George Preston Marshall that unless you integrate, we will terminate your stadium lease. It took them till... now - to finally get rid of the Marshall statue, and they only did that when people started to vandalize it. Snyder, like Marshall, only understands when he's basically forced to understand, and even then he probably doesn't get it. I mean, we were still honoring a guy who prevented integration until 1962 - the same guy who named them the Redskins. People don't want to say it, but the organization has a lot to make up for.

I see three paths to a name change:

1. A stadium deal on the table with a name change as a condition.
2. Mass protests outside of Redslurs Park where Snyder can’t insulate himself and not see it.
3. A player revolt - not one or two, but the majority of the team saying, nope, we won’t play unless the racist name goes.

Nope. Maybe "1." above would have a chance to work. But Snyder is stubborn and relatively immune to critique. His ego is too powerful and pressure tends to make him dig in.

Honestly the thing that would change his mind would only be

4. A superstar player he drafted/recruits that he is buddy-buddy friendly with, gets in his ear and tells him its a good idea.

Then following that maybe marketing shows him how much more money he can make with a re-brand, and he thinks of a way to gouge money from fans for the change. Like maybe paying for entries to vote on the new team name, or that only multi year season ticket holders get votes, and suite holders get extra votes, whereupon he will lock you into a contract for seats that will bankrupt your grandchildren's grandchildren if you break it.

Time to change the name. We got chase Young and if we want him in commercials we gotta do it. Turn the page to the next chapter.

Like Abe Pollin, he'll have a committee of his cronies pick 5 choices. He'll try to convince them to make one of the choices Redskins, but they talk him out of it. He'll take your idea of having season ticket holders get to vote on those 5, but he'll also allow new ticket buyers to vote - incentivising them to buy tickets for the right to vote. Of course, the voting will be fixed to ensure his choice is the one chosen. So he gets his way and sells more tickets. But eventually, someone turns him in for fixing the vote... to the Washington Bullets.

But this business I’m hearing about Warriors — that’s pretty awful.

We already have a culture that is in total thrall to competition, to domination, to war ... I don’t want a name to recognize that.

Yuck.

Well it's a sports team.

Competition...

Yeah, tbh Warriors is probably my favorite choice. If someone calls me a Warrior, I feel like they are complimenting me. It uh... hasn't happened very often. 8-)
