lol would you sign and trade DeAngelo Russell for Kevin Durant?

I'm upset we didn't do anything with the Clippers for Kawhi.

Situations are different.
KD was leaving anyway, wanted to be in BK, and D'Angelo was averaging 21/4/7 in an all star year at age 22. Kawhi wants to be in LA. Kinda apples and oranges here.

Clippers didn't have anything left to trade after they made the move for PG...

What situation would you think of that the Clippers would want Powell, an end of bench player and a late 1st for a top 3 player in the league? Nevermind that the money doesn't work.

If Kawhi opts out and is a UFA, it would be the same situation as KD. I think getting Powell, Thomas and a late 1st pick is better than losing Kawhi for nothing. They would also get a trade exception for the difference in salaries.

How would we not have the space for both Kawhi and Giannis? Could we not give just give certain guys 1 year deals then sign them in 2021 after we sign Giannis and Kawhi?

Ryen Russillo said he has sources telling him they Kawhi was actually serious with Masai when he said if the Raptors got Paul George that he would sign with us. He even supposedly asked if it was possible with an nba person. So it wasn’t LA or bust with him and also it was not like the KD situation where he was leaving for sure.

Might have to renounce their cap holds and Bird rights, unless you have money under the cap. Don't see that with Siakam/Kawhi/Giannis and likely FVV + OG + TD contracts.

I think it will depend on his gf/baby mama's preference as well. Family is one of the most important things to Giannis, based on all accounts.

They have his bird rights. There are no cap issues.

I seriously doubt they are trying to trade him. This is not an Anthony Davis situation. It was easy to trade Davis because New Orleans was not a contender. Now the Bucks are one of, if not the best team in the league -- they will not pass on that opportunity. They will likely never get as good a shot at the title over the next 20 years, even if they trade him.

Uh... it would surprise Me and probably almost everyone else that Leonard would say **** LA. Nah man, never. If he didn’t stay after all that The first time, why would he ever come back. Move on.

If had 2 shots playing with another "star" in PG and not winning it all, why not team up with old friends and Giannis?

Would the Clippers do a sign and trade of Powell, Matt Thomas and a 1st pick?

PG FVV - TD
SG Kawhi - TD - Watson?
SF OG - Kawhi
PF Siakam - OG
C Giannis - Ibaka

:o

That sign and trade would not even be close to working under the cap.
Can people please take some time to get a basic understanding of the cap. Thanks.

True. It was, more of a compensation to send them but they probably wouldn't be far enough under the cap to it and sign Giannis.

Ibaka may be willing to sign and trade to L.A. as it's a top city in the U.S..

Could they sign Giannis under the cap, then do Powell, Ibaka and 1st pick? Or would they lose the rights to Powell and Ibaka?

If there is one thing that Kawhi's free agency taught me, it is that there are no sources you can trust with him. People just project whatever they're thinking onto his silence.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

I trust Russillo because he doesn’t bs and make up stuff for air play. Also he said his source was right there with the person Kawhi was talking to on the phone. It happened at a dinner or something.

I don't think it's about people making stuff up and Russillo does seem generally pretty good. I just think what happens is the sources themselves might read what Kawhi says or doesn't say incorrectly. So usually reliable sources because unreliable. In the end, if true, I agree with not giving up everything to keep him here like the Clippers did to get George. It might have just been a 1 year deal too.

Hmm. Maybe you haven't been paying attention.

The Raptors team president is Masai Ujiri, a Nigerian. He is also the #1 NBA executive. He is also the only African running an NBA team and an African basketball hero.

Masai has signed more Africans to the Raptors than any other NBA team. We currently have 3 of our top 7 rotation players who are African: Pascal Siakim (Cameroon), Serge Ibaka (Congo) and OG Anunoby (Nigerian).

Also there are over 100,000 Africans in Toronto.

It was Masai and Giannis' African connection that led to Masai helping Giannis and his family immigrate to Greece so Giannis could pursue his basketball career as a teen.

see a thread...?

also Milwaukee is racist af

I think this is more relevant than some understand. Masai's long-term vision is to transform basketball in Africa. There are players in the NBA that believe in this vision. I believe Giannis, Oladipo (mother is from Nigeria), Embiid are all on board. Giannis is the best player in the NBA right now and there is a unique opportunity for that to propel the vision. They can do this together while Giannis is in Milwaukee, but it can be argued that they have a greater opportunity by building an NBA dynasty together. If Giannis agrees to it they will do some amazing things. Embiid and Dipo could follow.

Why do we need to sell players on other unrelated narratives. How about we sell him on the fact we have the best GM, coach, and fans in the league. Furthermore, sell him on the financial opportunities he'd have being the face of basketball in Canada. Basketball Africa should just be a bonus. We're world champs for goodness sakes.

They have to extend him basically the second the season is over. They are on the record saying they will, he's expecting max. He wont take less, he's already done that up to this point.

They do have a cap problem, they have their whole team signed for a world that doesn't include the NBA cap dropping 30%. That might be the case if the season gets cancelled. They have effectively put the cart before the horse here, and might not have room to max him now. They would be asking him for quite a discount.

Because they know this, in theory the shopping could have started before the season resumed. When we though the season was cancelled a month ago. They might have actually started putting out feelers.

If they get bounced in the first round and Giannis looks disinterested...this is why. He would know.
