Giannis is more old school than the average player. He might feel a sense of loyalty to the Bucks franchise.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

If only VC had that Mamba mentality, he might have won a damn ring at some point in his 22 year career. Once he developed that long range shot, the sky was really the limit.

Also interesting that after going through so many free agencies, he was never able to put himself in a position to contribute to a championship level team.

If you go back and look at some of his contracts, he's basically bent over backwards for the Bucks up to this point. He's had some of the craziest contracts in NBA history.

The franchise has problems either way going forward. Unemployment in Milwaukee could hit 20% easy, that's a lot of empty seats and lost sponsors.

For the fifth year in a row, more Nigerians emigrated to Canada than the year before as data published by the Canadian government shows the number of Nigerians issued permanent resident permits has tripled since 2015.

The rise in Nigerian immigrants heading to Canada reflects the North American country’s push to expand its labor force and lower the average age of its workers as its population advances in years. In 2019, Canada welcomed 341,000 immigrants in total (about 10,000 more it targeted) as part of its immigration policy to attract skilled workers.

For middle-class Nigerians increasingly looking to emigrate, Canada holds appeal for several reasons. Its ongoing drive to increase skill-based immigration offers a legal and long-term path not just to residency permits but also citizenship.

For Nigerians who can afford to relocate, the chance for their children to access better education standards —and the future opportunities that come with it—has also proven to be a major factor. Like most other immigrant groups, Nigerians moving to Canada mostly settle in Ontario.

Canada is projected to welcome nearly 700,000 immigrants over the next two years.

Nigeria had the biggest drop in visitors to the US last year as Trump’s visa policies took hold

The United States has recently banned Nigerians from receiving immigration visas as part of a new wave of restrictions from the Trump administration’s already long history of tough immigration clampdowns on Nigeria.

The travel measures taken against Nigeria by the United States last year are starting to have a clear and, potentially, long-term effect.

Data from the US travel and tourism office shows Nigeria recorded the largest global drop-off in visitors to the US. As of October 2019, 34,000 fewer Nigerians traveled to the US compared to the previous year—a 21% drop. After a sustained period of growth between 2011 and 2015, the number of Nigerian visitors to the US started to plateau in 2016 until the big drop-off last year.

He probably already knows.
He said he has a lot of family back in Nigeria that he's never gotten a chance to see. He said he was going to visit them this summer but of course because of COVID-19 those plans flopped.
If he came to Toronto, it'd make it a whole lot easier for his family back home to visit him, watch him play in real life. Maybe even live here and obtain a citizenship. Something the US would never allow.
I honestly think this will play a huge role in him potentially signing with us.

Hmm. Maybe you haven't been paying attention.

The Raptors team president is Masai Ujiri, a Nigerian. He is also the #1 NBA executive. He is also the only African running an NBA team and an African basketball hero.

Masai has signed more Africans to the Raptors than any other NBA team. We currently have 3 of our top 7 rotation players who are African: Pascal Siakim (Cameroon), Serge Ibaka (Congo) and OG Anunoby (Nigerian).

Also there are over 100,000 Africans in Toronto.

It was Masai and Giannis' African connection that led to Masai helping Giannis and his family immigrate to Greece so Giannis could pursue his basketball career as a teen.

see a thread...?

also Milwaukee is racist af

I think this is more relevant than some understand. Masai's long-term vision is to transform basketball in Africa. There are players in the NBA that believe in this vision. I believe Giannis, Oladipo (mother is from Nigeria), Embiid are all on board. Giannis is the best player in the NBA right now and there is a unique opportunity for that to propel the vision. They can do this together while Giannis is in Milwaukee, but it can be argued that they have a greater opportunity by building an NBA dynasty together. If Giannis agrees to it they will do some amazing things. Embiid and Dipo could follow.

Yeah I have no doubt that in some of those conversations during Giants of Africa or at the all-star game that Masai (only half-jokingly) drops to Giannis the idea of "hey wouldn't it be great if there was a team with a starting 5 of all African players that won the title and showed the world that Africans are actually the world's best basketball players? Just imagine You and Pascal and Joel and Victor and OG/Serge on the same team!"

It truly would be a dominant team and I think its Masai's ultimate NBA dream. It would be pretty awesome. :D

Pascal
Giannis

I’d put money on Masai knowing he’s actually got a shot at this. It might be a small shot, but he knows.......

So if the Bucks fail to get past us 2 years in a row and Giannis leaves the Bucks to join us, is he a ring-chaser like Durant? :D

If we don't actually win the championship and lose to the clippers/Lakers it's not at all the same thing.

If anything it gives better reasoning to why it's ok for him to join us and team up like they have done out west

So much wishful thinking.

Of course I'd love him here, but he's staying in Milwaukee. If he does seriously entertain offers and allows himself to be courted, Raps have as good a chance as any but I won't underestimate the pull of the California teams and their pitches (except the Kings).

Best case scenario;

Giannis is a Raptor with Siakam for the next 10 years.

Worst case scenario;

We luck out and Giannis re-signs with bucks. Instead we sign Oladipo and another impact player, build around them and Siakam, FVV, OG.

Considering the fact that the Raptors have just won a ring, we're playing with house money.

Return to Toronto Raptors
