If our shooting coaches can help him become decent from 3 (a lot of our guys were non shooters in before they were drafted by the Raps), dude would be incredibly valuable. He legit has best defense in the NBA type potential; long, athletic, great motor, good awareness and discipline and is already great at the college level.

Compared to Bey isn't Paul Reed a similar prospect with the upside of being longer and younger?

That's why I'd take Reed over Tyler Bey.

Here’s a guy that looks interesting at the 58th pick or as a undrafted prospect. 6’9 long arms and big hands - related to Hoop Dreams documentary star Arthur Agee.

Tajuan is a bruiser with shooting skill and very good passing skills. He’s a high motor and energy guy that shoots 37.5% from 3.

Advanced stats are not that good. Malik Fitts is the better choice for #58. He's shot over 40% the last 2 seasons on over 4 attempts per game from deep. Also, slightly tougher competition.

Top Point Guards I'm for around our late first round pick:
Kira Lewis- fast, fast and more fast
Jahmius Ramsey- super athlete
Tyrese Maxey- all-around player
Tyrell Terry- Sleeper pick. Maybe Tre Young Esque

Wings
Elijah Hughes- Excellent shooter from 3 and good athlete
Saddig Bay- Excellent stand still or catch and shoot 3 point shooter. Defend positions 1-5.
Josh Green- Good Athlete and a very good stand still shooter

Bigs
Paul Reed- Siakim esque, great motor, excellent defender
Jalen Smith- Stretch 4. Good shooter
Zeke Nanji- best motor for the traditional bigs. Long and Athletic with a decent mid range
Daniel Oturu- Maybe the best all-around ( can shoot outside, protect the rim, ala, Serge Ibaka).

I admittedly haven't watched much of him and would appreciate it if you explained why we should take him and run.

I'm seeing a player who has great physical tools to play the 2 and depending on the matchups, able to play the 3 as well. He shows great promise as an on ball defender and his steal numbers shows that he is able to get his hands on the ball as well. Offensively, for a guard, he looks a bit limited and there are some question marks including his ball handling, finishing ability, shot creation, playmaking.

I'm thinking sort of like a Danny Green but with more slashing?

My thinking is that he has great tools with an elite mindset. What I mean by that is he will work hard and play the game the right way, which will only help him continue to improve. I believe that from his first game in the NBA he's a guy that will be able to defend the other teams 1-3 spots.

He will need to improve offensively, but there's no reason he shouldn't. He's already a very capable slasher, and he's already a passable 3 point shooter. So I see him being able to develop into a 37% or higher shooter from deep.

He's by no means a finished product, but he gives me no reason to believe that he won't get the most out of his talent. I project him as a high IQ version of JR Smith or Nick Young, which seems like a pretty good pro to me.

Ok. I can see where you're coming from and you are swaying me towards him. I feel like my concerns about him not getting minutes was overblown. It's still valid due to our guard heavy roster construction but he's a versatile defender who understands his limits and role. He'd probably find a way to get minutes on any team.

Just want to mention that I think our assessment of him is pretty close since a Danny Green with slashing is pretty similar to a JR Smith or Nick Young that plays the game the right way. I looked up JR Smith's stats and apparently he played 35 minutes per game during the Cavaliers championship run. :o

edit: The Ringer's comparison is Gary Harris. Interesting.

The more I think about it, the more I am left confused why mock drafts have Paul Reed going to the second round. Ya his jumper has question marks but he's got good measurements, moves well, he's got tons of potential as a defender and can do stuff on offence. I don't understand.

They had Pascal and his motor going in the 2nd round.

I guess weak conference bias.

https://hoopshype.com/2019/12/09/depaul-paul-reed-scouting-report-nba-draft-analysis/

At least Bo Outlaw with handles, better FT shooting and a workable 3-pt shot, should get him to 13-15 ppg. Then getting to AK47 range.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/kawhi-leonard-1.html
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/leonaka01.html

I hope Kawhi can finish his career with more steals than fouls. I see the same ability to be balanced and reach to poke balls away without needing to foul. Kawhi had 1.4 steal and 2.5 fouls per game during each of his 2 seasons, but was 1-1 when playing in the league.... astonishing! Reed had 1.9 steals and 3.0 fouls per game. Also he went for 2.6 blocks per game and that didn't hurt, perhaps because he didn't try to "swat" everything, rather deflect the ball to start a fast break. Anyhow he is in control when he tries to block shots.

I would probably take Reed unless someone like Patrick Wiliams or Devin Vassell (or another "top 10" prospect) mysteriously drops. Then I would draft them and maybe trade down for Reed, to perhaps salary dump Stanley Johnson!

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/shawn-marion-1.html

29.9% from 3, twice as many steals plus blocks per fouls! Reed is at 1.5x.

Reed played a good Big East and in conference play still put up 2.1 stls and 2.1 blks. I think this should translate well on the next level.

I think I've said it before that I think Reed will be like less gangly version of Kirilenko.

Also dinged for his age, he just turned 21, so compared to 19 and 20-year-olds he's expected to be better

Weak conference and deep draft.

By the time the actual draft happens I'm gonna know all 60 players full names, stats, strengths/weakness by heart

Do you know what's good with Okoro? I see Stanley Johnson 2.0.

I see MKG or Winslow at best.

Out of all the potential top 10 guys I've probably looked at him the least. Not cause I think he's bad or agree with the Stanley Johnson comparison but it's just every year there's a player like that drafted top 10 with the hope that they can grow into a better offensive player and have a Jimmy butler type ceiling but it's so hard to judge. I wouldn't draft him over Vassell based on the shot making ability he's shown and his mid range pull ups.
I'd say Okoro is more likely Winslow with less playmaking than Stanley though

I admitted early on that I thought Reed was a lotto pick. The only thing I'd ever use to knock him was his team's record, but it's tough for bigs to control that, especially if you're not a big who will enforce their will. He plays more within the team concept so the record is more on the system they ran at Depaul.

I see MKG too now. Damn, I thought he would at least be a defensive specialist.

I really like that list as it fits guys who might be available at our pick and are guys that are interesting players that could be slotted in.

My only substitute would be Jahmius Ramsey. I don't see him as a PG as much as a scorer. I would put in Bolmaro and Dotson in the PG category.

The draft has another position, if you can call it that, and that is of sixth man scorer. Ramsey would fit that, along with Isaiah Joe and Grant Riller. I don't see these guys as starters but they are scorers that are able to swing a game with their scoring in a bench role. To me, they would have to compliment guys like Powell and Davis, but I could see a need.

Agreed with Bolmaro and Dotson, but I think Bolmaro might get scooped up before we get a chance to pick. My list actually has pieces that both of you mentioned.

Here are the guys I've kind of been drawn to (both 1st and 2nd RD):

Devon Dotson - PG - Kansas
Elijah Hughes - SG - Syracuse
Leandro Bolmaro - SG - Argentina
Mamadi Diakite - PF - Virginia
Xavier Tillman - C - Michigan St.
Daniel Oturu - C - Minnesota

I still need to look into the late 2nd Round better...There are so many potential players to look into with the second round pick or even undrafted additions. Even a guy like Woodard who I mentioned yesterday reminds me of OG, might be there at 58. I also have this feeling that Ayo Dosumnu (Illinois) is going to be a baller. As mentioned, Isaiah Joe (Arkansas) also has that 3-point shot, he would be someone I look at there.
