and I even like him more than you do, but dude isn't going to be that level playmaker at the next level. That wouldn't even be using him to his strengths when he is such a weapon off ball.

Here’s my question to that lets say the plan going forward is to put the ball in RJ’s hand for him to attack..... would he the. be a good match?

Williams defended the go-to guard’s role in the team’s dismal season, calling the supporting cast “the least gifted” he’d overseen in his 32 seasons as a head coach.

“Such a rash of injuries and bad plays and bad luck and bad coaching,” Williams says. “We needed him to penetrate and throw the ball to himself.”[/quote]

Good read. A lot of interesting quotes from coach Williams

Didn't know about this part

Then there’s the issue of his temperament. One NBA scout says he “needs to learn to manifest his competitiveness in a more constructive manner. He can be overly demonstrative, especially when his teammates make mistakes. His attitude tends to be the biggest hesitation teams have.”

Now this definitely makes me nervous more then any of the question marks Cole has.

I guess my issue with that is I don't think RJ is a #1 playmaking option. I think he's a secondary guy. I also believe Haliburton is a secondary playmaking guy. So my issue is now we would have two secondary guys but still missing a guy that would be our main guy.

If you believe RJ can eventually be a 20+-7-7 guy I suppose or something to that extent then yes having a guy like Haliburton would be more acceptable. And im not even suggesting I wouldn't trade Haliburton (I would take him in my top 8). I just wouldn't take him in my top 5. I think there are higher potential guys in that group.

I specifically don't trust either RJ or in this case as you are putting it Haliburton to be a main facilitator of the offense due to his inability to consistently get into the paint. I think that will ultimate limit him to more of a C&S, move the ball around the perimeter, decent P&R player. He also struggles to shoot of the dribble so he has limitations there as well.

His main benifits come off lower usage and most likely with thrive with player(s) who can get into the paint to collapse the defense where he can use his shooting and smart passing to beat the defense.

Just as some believe LaMelo and RJ aren't a great match because they both are weak shooters. One could make the match that Haliburton and RJ while being a decent ying/yang in terms of skill set. Would you trust either one long term to be the main playmaker on a championship ball club?

If you are adding him to be another complimentary piece...then I totally understand that and buy that logic.

Another plus is he basically doubled his production from his freshman year too, after balling out for team USA playing with the best of the best at his age group. He might just be coming into his own. I like players like that that show a lot improvement at that age....see Ja and Donovan Mitchell.

He's very unique indeed. There's really no legit comp for him, just shades of a lot of different players. He's got some JKidd and Pablo Prigioni qualities in his game. Some Ricky Rubio qualities. Some SGA qualities. Brogdon, etc. He might never become a perennial All Star but he's got potential to be in the league for a long time as a legit complimentary piece.

Yea, all those players i like a lot too. I probably wouldn't bet on him being a perennial star either, but he has a lot of qualities i love. Shoot, pass, defend?. He brings a lot to the table. Just not really high on many players in this draft being stars so have Haliburton pretty high on my board.

That said Haliburton if he can sustain his ncaa shooting percentage will still be more valuable than Frank unless frank magically shoots 38% instead of 32%. I don’t think his playmaking is all that much better than current frank, none of it seems impressive to me and frank does ok when he’s not playing timid and giving up the ball at halfcourt. He had that 20 pt 10 ast game recently. Never forget.

I'm sure Frank is working his butt off. If he can't just get it to 36% this year, I'll be very happy. Just show some steady and consistent improvement. I think FIBA Frank is not too far off. :D

Also, for me, Tyrese is the better offensively while Frank is better defensively. But together, along with Mitch and RJ? Oh the humanity. We will be beasts defensively.

Thing is Frank is also on the last year of his rookie contract and who knows if he plans to sign any kind of extension or come back after next season. If we aren’t committed to bringing him back he is going to be like the guys who played ahead of him in prior years who took minutes from our younger pg when he’s not even going to be back. I hope he likes rose or someone in the new regime and we can keep him on the cheap but I say there’s a good chance he wants out

Perhaps you're right. At some point, Frank is going to have to up his play like he did in FIBA is he wants to establish himself here. Obviously, he's capable because he did it, but who knows if the Knicks are the right fight. Frank's had 4 coaches, I believe, since his rookie year. Plus, much front office turnover. Also, remember, that he had one of the higher +/- on the team. He already affects the game in so many other ways on the court, I'd hate to give up on him now. Lots of NBA players have increased their 3 point shooting percentages in their fourth seasons.

I still think cole could be a solid player. my main worry is the knee injury he already had, hopefully that doesn't become a trend. but i'm buying his shot.

It sounds like he's talented enough to go much higher in the draft, but one consideration is that, unlike previous years, it is probably going to be tremendously difficult to bring any international player over before the beginning of next season. As a draft and stash candidate, he might be fantastic with the Clippers pick if he's still there.

We should be drafting BPA, we should not be drafting based on fit. We are not married to any player on our roster at this point.

If we can’t get LaMelo,Hayes ,Edwards or wiseman just trade the pick.

Everyone else in this draft is trash if we’re being honest.

Trade out and try to get more future picks, especially for the 21 and 22 drafts in particular.

Honestly, if we move up I wouldn’t be mad at trading down for a 2021 draft pick. Say a team are at 5-10 want to move up for Wiseman. I would fully support trading down, drafting later this year, for a third 2021 pick.
