2017 Warriors in 5 games... Still no answer for Curry, Klay and Durant... Dwight does not close the gap

Those Mavs managed to shut down Lebron and dismantled the Kobe Lakers and a young but still formidable KD-Westbrook-Harden-Ibaka core, i somehow doubt Klay and Curry will go off on them or whatever. I’d still lean the Warriors as well but they’d definitely win more than one game.

Dwight would absolutely dominate the Warriors offensively and so would Dirk. Remember he averaged 27/16 on 68 TS% (63 FG%) and Dirk obviously went crazy averaging 28/8 on 61 TS%. Against Golden State they do good enough to bring it to 7 I think, but I'm still taking Golden State even with the mismatch.

found this online

"The year Dallas won the title, their four opponents were all weak shooting teams. Portland did not boast all that much shooting power outside of Roy and Gerald Wallace. The Lakers could not buy a basket the entire series, as Derek Fisher and Ron Artest’s shooting woes were exposed.

Oklahoma City struggled to shoot the three the entire series, as Kevin Durant and DaQuan Cook were their only source of outside shooting throughout. The Heat’s only main shooters from the finals series were Mike Bibby, Mike Miller and Mario Chalmers.

This is where the Mavs are ill-prepared. The shooting combined with the ineffectiveness of Shawn Marion will make life difficult for Dallas, but Rick Carlisle has some ideas. The biggest concern for the Mavericks is surviving the initial surge from Golden State. But if this is achieved, Dallas can then use its biggest advantage in this matchup other than rim protection."

Warriors are still clear favorites imo. Dwight is better than Chandler, but Carlisle is never going to give him the post touches he wants because it blows up his offense which may cause Dwight to sulk and Mavs players from that team talk not just about Chandler's defense but his communication, passion, and leadership. I don't think its actually that significant of an upgrade all things considered.

Now I'd never rule out the 2011 Mavs with Dirk playing at peak levels and all those smart veterans who shoot and defend. But while they have multiple options to throw at KD and Klay, they really don't have anyone for Steph. Matrix probably gets the primary nod with DeShawn and Kidd guarding Durant but JET is likely going to have to defend him a lot and Barea essentially can only play when Livingston is on the court which hurts the Mavs offensively.

If they play the series 10x I'd assume the Warriors win 7 or 8 of the meetings.

Do the Mavs get Caron Butler and Tyson Chandler? The Mavericks might be able to gimp the 2017 Warriors just based on bench play.

Barea - Terry - Butler - Chandler would really damage the 17 Warrior's bench

As a Maverock fan, I'd like our chances more with TC starting. Dwight can play backup if Hayward is hurt.

That Mavs offense was all about chemestey, IQ and Dirk's 1v1 scoring, I think TC is a better option there. And although Dwight > TC on defense, in 2011 TC probably should've been #2 in DPOY.

I just don't think Dwight's defensive +'s out weigh his iso touches -'s taking away from our Dirk, shooters and PnR TC touches.

Off the bench his post scoring is just fine and obviously the defense would be even better than the first unit.

TC is also a better FT shooter to close games, iirc.

Dirk + D12 is a bad matchup for the Warriors. Draymond won't do well against big bruisers like dwight or against tall shooters like Dirk. Mavs could give the Warriors a run for their money not based on a talent perspective ( Dubs obviously overwhelm) but just matchups.

Warriors win but it doesn’t take 7. Tyson Chandler was the second best player on that Mavs team and you can’t play him and Dwight at the same time. He’s about the worst star you could have chosen to upgrade that team from a fit perspective.

I feel like Dwight is the exact type of player the Warriors can most easily exploit. He'd take touches away from Dirk and not produce with them, be attacked on switches and cuts. I think this is probably 5 or maybe a easy 6 games max.

The 2016 Warriors, when healthy, were far better than the 11 Mavs. KD was far better than Dwight

Not sure how the warriors don’t crush it

Amusing given Zaza has guarded Dwight about as well as anyone throughout his career

We're talking about prime Dwight and believe me he didn't guard him well. I've seen it live and in person the Hawks consistently had no answer for him back then (which is why Dwight averages 24 PPG on 70% shooting in the playoffs against Zaza, maybe you should've scrolled down).

Why would Dwight Howard take shots away from Dirk? You know Dirk isn't the only player who takes field goals on the 2011 Mavericks right guys?

Not to mention Dwight does not take many field goals, and when he does he usually makes them. We already know that if Dwight is by himself in the paint (and with Dirk they have that option) he is going to wreck the other team unless they have a lot of big bodies - which GSW does not have.
