We luck out and Giannis re-signs with bucks. Instead we sign Oladipo and another impact player, build around them and Siakam, FVV, OG.

Considering the fact that the Raptors have just won a ring, we're playing with house money.

Say it again...

we’re more likely not to get any of those guys. No major free agent have ever signed to raptors and don’t even mention Lowry because when he came here he wasn’t even a major free agent. he was a disgruntled player that many teams weren’t fighting to sign because He was fighting with his coach at the time. I mean what makes you think these guys are willingly coming here now that kawhi left ? Just because Masai is African it doesn’t mean every player with African heritage wants come to Toronto and play for him smh I guess embiid is dying to come here too right ? Yes players will just turn down more money after what happened this season just come a play for Masai who they will hardly see anyways  Image

You wouldn't mention Lowry because he was traded here.

Why wouldn't he leave the Bucks if they get a ring with them? Lebron has won rings with two teams and now looking for a ring with his third team. Same with Kawhi. Durant won two rings with GSW and got bored and bolted. Giannis can win a ring, leave the Bucks, and still be in GOAT conversation.

The supermax and what the Bucks roster will look come the 2021 offseason are bigger factors IMO, but also whether Giannis even wants to stay in Mil anymore. Like Kawhi and Durant, sometimes players just want to move to different environments.

lebron left miami bc he could see them imploding. aging roster/cap strapped and the allure of returning home with a young star in kyrie with a team with the first overall pick and assets to land a 3rd star was too much to pass up.

lakers i tihnk was more of a business move tbh, if he really wanted to win, him going to philly made alot more sense. ben/embied and him? surrond them with shooters and u got a devastating defensive team with two young guys that can carry the load when he got old.

That's what people used to say about LeBron & KD. People can easily change their mind over time.

Ackshun wrote:If only VC had that Mamba mentality, he might have won a damn ring at some point in his 22 year career. Once he developed that long range shot, the sky was really the limit.

How many rings did Kobe got with his "Mamba mentality" in the years between Shaq & Pau Gasol?

Kobe missed the playoffs in 04/05 season and blew a 3-1 lead during 1st round the season after.

Kobe was ready to force his way out from Lakers until they got Paul Gasol. The rest is history.

The NBA was a big man oriented league and Prime Vince never had a great big man as his teammate.

Also interesting that after going through so many free agencies, he was never able to put himself in a position to contribute to a championship level team.

Because Vince consistently said he didn't want to ring chasing a.k.a. riding the bench on a title contender.

He wants more playing time and becoming a mentor for the younger players. Which is admirable tbh.

1. Lowry didn't sign with us as a FA, he was traded here.

2. American players don't want to sign with us (American players don't want to sign anywhere that isn't New York or LA). But international players have no issues with Canada (in fact, they may even prefer it to playing in the racist, xenophobic USA).

None of this is accurate.

Fact #1: The Antetokounmpo family moved from Nigeria to Greece before Giannis was born.

Fact #2: When the Antetokounmpo family emigrated to Greece, Ujiri was in college.

Fact #3: Giannis, like most of his siblings, was born in Greece.

Does it sound reasonable to anyone here that Ujiri, as a student attending college in Bismark, North Dakota, did anything to help a Nigerian family emigrate to Greece? Because college students often help families that they have no connection to or contact with? And that the motivation was so an unborn son of the family could pursue a basketball career? And coincidentally the college student becomes a top NBA executive and the family has a son that becomes one of the top basketball players in the world?

1. Giannis family were illegal immigrants in Greece.

2. Giannis and all of his siblings were never legally recognized as Greece citizens.

3. Masai helped his family get legal citizenship in Greece.

Regardless of any of the above, I’ll just take it from the man himself:

I think the revised "facts" that seem to be acknowledged here, change the essence of the story considerably. The implication is that instead of Masai helping the Antetokounmpo family 30 years ago when he was a college student in North Dakota, Masai helped the family with citizenship and visa issues in 2013 after Antetokounmpo was drafted by the Bucks.

But think this through for a second. Ujiri might have provided some assistance, advice and comfort to the family in 2013 when they were trying to get into the U.S. But did Ujiri make so much of a difference that without his help Giannis would have been denied entry to the U.S. Or his family would have been denied? What knowledge, expertise or leverage did Ujiri provide? Because he had Nigerian ancestry? Because he knew somebody in Nigeria once upon a time? Because he had some idea as to what it would take to get action from the Greek government? Because he knew how to use Google? Because he knew how to use the Yellow Pages?

Does anyone on the planet think that Ujiri, a highly educated, intelligent NBA executive with a relatively limited history of global activity would be more effective at helping Antetokounmpo than the Bucks owner? Herb Kohl had served twelve years in the U.S. Senate. He routinely worked with lawmakers and diplomats at all levels of the federal government. He had access to a full range of national and international leaders, from President Obama on down. Kohl was one of the most powerful people in the U.S. He passed legislation on scores of issues including immigration, approved the appointment of government officials (like the U.S. ambassadors to Greece and Nigeria), voted on foreign aid, and impacted virtually every aspect of U.S. and international life, but he couldn't help Antetokounmpo and family get into the U.S.?

I don't know what did or did not go on in public or behind the scenes, but it seems preposterous to me that a person with the knowledge, experience, and connections of a U.S. Senator would play less of a role in facilitating visas for Antetokounmpo and his family than a basketball executive. Giannis might graciously appreciate any help and support that Ujiri provided, but that does not mean that it was not Herb Kohl and the Milwaukee Bucks that transformed the lives of he and his family.

Ben and Lebron is a pretty crappy fit imo. I feel like Lebron is much better at what Simmons does offensively (being a big that attacks from the perimeter, going coast to coast in transition) and that Ben would not be happy limiting his game at such a young age. I also think that BC was still the GM of the Sixers at the time.

Embiid doesn't excel in the PnR like Davis does (Embiid is very athletic but not a freak like Davis. His motor also isn't as high).

Imagine if Lebron had made his way to the Spurs... that'd have been awesome.

To sum up, despite your attempts to debunk my post and dismiss Masai's achievements, old skool, I got the essence of the story right (Masai helped Giannis and his family overcome significant Greek immigration obstacles long before he was in or associated with the NBA) and was quick to acknowledge my factual mistake, whereas you repeatedly got both the essence and the facts wrong, and tacked on a lengthy misguided diatribe to boot. Suck it up and take the L, courteously provided by redeye514.

Let unleash Terence Davis like Powell this year! Keep stocking the minor league system and hope for more lottery tickets to hit.

Really just keep Nick Nurse and the team will be a contender every season.

Obviously the raptors organization have plans B & C just in case Giannis doesn't come here, but this is a raptors forum, this is where we discuss such things.

Honestly, it's probably more likely that he ends up in GS or even LA.

We would need a lot of things to go right, just like the Kawhi trade. Maybe he falls to us, who knows.
