Re: Elephant in the room : NBA resumes
I’m starting to see this the same way as a lot of you. What’s the point of restarting this season or baseball or MLS, or even the NFL. The virus is spreading again, and the only way to stop it is to stay the hell away from each other till the vaccines are ready. I’ve grown weary of team sports over the last few months. I’m more into UFC than any sport these days anyway. I still love the Magic but they’re a 1 round and done team no matter how you do the playoffs. This restart certainly is needed for the lower end players in the league, and it’s ultimately a cash grab. Let’s not pretend this is for the fan base. I could care less about seeing the Lakers win an asterisk ridden title at this point.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

I think today or tomorrow is the notification deadline for opting out for players. Shouldn't be too long till rosters are finalizing until the Covid starts taking people out of eligibility once they get here.

Should we just give up the next two years? The virus isn't going away. If they scraped this season the players would go nuts. A couple players are complaining about playing, a couple hundred would complain about not playing.cedric76 wrote:basketballRob wrote:They've already said next season will probably be without fans. Because this title will have no value, players have not been able to practice for over 3 months, it s risking their health for nothing.
If season resume, we ll see many players go down with injuries.
As for 2020/2021 season, lets start as usual (oct) without fan if they decide it s best.
Resuming this season is dumb and pointless.
Give the title to Mil and start the draft and forget about this terrible 2019/2020 season
The players get more of the revenue split than the owners. If you don't play, you don't make any money.

Interesting Woj tweets. Bubble teams possibly treating this like summer league and going to play the scrubs. Good for us if true we'll be on a level playing field.

I tore my ACL last Summer (actually a true story). I would happily have accepted a league minimum salary for not playing because of my injury !!!!

The protests by themselves wouldn't shut down games, in fact the opposite, it would help shine a light to them as it did with Eric Garner. I don't understand Kyrie's point. Florida just hit a new high in cases at nearly 4,000 in one day. There is no such thing as a bubble that the players will be in, not in Florida anyway. They would be better off going to Montana or somewhere else remote. People will violate the policy of this guaranteed. I'm sure people will be coming in and out on the sly, and as soon as one positive test shows up it will throw the whole thing into chaos. This championship will have little to no meaning anyway. The message it sends is so willfully ignorant as well. I was spooked when the best case scenario was 60K deaths by August not long ago, now we are at 120K in mid June and rising rapidly. History will judge us as being a very selfish and dumb people during this crisis. I've been telling my friends the same thing with regard to our fantasy football season. It may start on time, but doubtful we'll have anywhere near a full season, same goes for the nba. But, I said the same thing about movie theaters as well, and AMC is just now mandating masks, let alone even being open in the first place. All of it seems so insane to me.
Because at the end of the day, I think there are more people that are just desperate to gain normalcy back to their lives and damn the consequences.
Sure, but that is a very ironic statement. Because, if people would have taken this seriously and acted responsibly, there could have been worry free sports. Now, we may still have some semblance of a season, but I'm a skeptic at heart. I don't think its going to go well at all as the nation surges in cases. I don't want to get another thread locked, not that this one is going gang busters, but it has to do with a total lack of leadership. I know most want to move on and talk about other things, but I am still living this every single day in my office. I just had another unfortunate altercation with a patient today. People don't want to be educated, not in their living room, but the problem is they are standing in mine while they spout nonsense. We all should be educating every single day. I don't do that here anymore, the mods seem inconvenienced about some topics, but I still do it on a daily basis. I just can't seem to be as interested about players ongoing injuries or bad contracts the Magic have given out. So, I've not been here as I was in the past, and probably even less in the future. I too am disappointed we can't have those things we all used to enjoy.

Nothings getting brushed under the rug. Kyrie playing or not has no impact on wether reform happens. Police reform needs to happen because it impacts EVERYONE. I doubt at this point it’ll be ignored. People need distractions and something else to talk about.CPBalla2003 n da 863 wrote:I totally get both sides of the argument. On the flip side, as a Black American, I get where Kyrie is coming from. With Basketball back on and we can tune out the distractions and not push for some changes. Being in an environment, besides all the amenities, they can't go nowhere and enjoy their freedom, but the reason its being done is for safety in the first place. I didn't think nothing of it when Dame said he doesn't want to play about a few weeks ago... now with Kyrie coming out being against the bubble idea, it started to make sense that there are more players who feel this way. The stars can handle this financial crunch if they decide to... but I think of someone like Khem Birch who is still a millionaire... but I'm sure it adds up and they rely on that paycheck, which Austin Rivers was vocal about that. this is LBJ best chance to win a title with the current Lakers team and add to his legacy, so I'm not surprised he didn't show up to the Zoom call.
Whatever happens, happens... but I just hope things don't get brush under the rug with what's all going on in the world.

Distractions are easy because it's easy to talk about dominating performance from LBJ or Giannis. This is why conversations need to be had within everyone circles with what's going on in the world, they are not pleasant and easy convos. There are things getting done because well... we don't have Sports or entertainment to fall back and it's all the world is seeing now. Like I stated before, I'm glad either way... Get some Sports back and we keep highlighting the things that are getting done.

I just don't see how Disney reopens with the way this response has been bungled. In the end if that happens and the NBA proceeds, it's probably better, less people around the Disney area and less chance of spread. This is an absolutely epic failure of leadership. We could have been an example on how to reopen and move on, instead, people got cocky, and now we're risking it all going away just as soon as we got it back.

Re: Elephant in the room : NBA resumes
If we want businesses to stay open, fed gov needs to implement mandatory mask wearing in public. Or dictate which states require it. People are asshats and clearly not doing it on their own. It's literally like the easiest thing to do to keep your family/community/country safe and back to normal fastest.
I don't understand the idea that forcing people to wear a mask is taking away freedoms. It's literally the opposite. People don't have the freedom to walk around stores if others aren't wearing masks. People don't have freedom to avoid health care costs if others aren't wearing masks. People may literally lose their life (ultimate freedom) because others aren't wearing masks.
It's so aggravating.

money makes the world go round, so let's spint it once again for pockets of the richest.
Where whole corona thing is complete joke and for vast majority of people is harmless, we don't resume sports because of fans, nor because of love for sport, but for money and money only.

Did anyone see the practice courts being set up at Disney? They are literally one on top of each other, they should space them out.

I highly doubt they'll be practicing at the same time for reasons other than the virus.

No Dinwiddie could help us move up. This season and playoffs are going to be so interesting. While I want all those involved to stay healthy, it's hard to imagine that happening. Even if we stayed at 8 and Giannis got COVID, that even makes our series interesting.
